Laurocerasus



General Symptoms.

Objective. Apoplexy. Tremulousness of the whole body. Convulsions followed by death. Convulsions; staring eyes, closed jaws, frothing from the mouth, followed by death. She fell down; after half an hour was seized with convulsions and frothing from the mouth, followed in a short time by death. (* In a girl of eighteen, who had taken two spoonfuls of Aqua Laurocerasi destillata. *) Violent convulsions with staring eyes tightly closed jaws frothing from the mouth; followed by death (in a young man). Paralysis and death. (* Two men from taking an alcoholic infusion of the fruit. *) She fell into an asphyxiated, paralytic condition of the whole body, in which she remained for eighteen hours, apparently lifeless, with scarcely perceptible pulse of the heart, barely 30 beats to the minute. General indolence and inclination to sleep (after 25 drops). Weariness; aversion to all work (after 20 drops). Weary and sleepy, after eating. Great weariness towards evening (after 14 drops). Great weariness and inclination to sleep very early in the evening (after 16 drops). He became weaker every day. Great weakness (after 20 drops). Weak, prostrated (after one hour and a half). Generally very much exhausted (after 10 drops). Very much exhausted, and quite passive all day (after 15 drops). Faintness; he fell suddenly to the ground (in a man recovering from intermittent fever, who had just taken an infusion of three or four leaves of Laurocerasus, and tea with milk). He immediately fell stupidly to the ground (in a man who had taken a glass of liquor infused with Laurocerasus). Subjective. Sensibility seems completely destroyed. While sitting, a healthy feeling as after fatigue (after one hour). Feels very much relaxed in the morning. Felt heavy and disinclined to work (second morning). He feels sick, as if faint, in the morning. Slight attack of illness. Pinching- burning pains, now in one, now in another part of the body, especially in the upper and lower extremities. Itching stitches in various part of the body. Feeling as of electric shocks, at 9 P. M. in bed. She seemed better in the open air, though the roughness in the throat was then worse (after one hour and a half).

Skin

Objective. The skin was very raw and rough between the index middle and ring fingers and on closing the hand in water violent burning, which on becoming dry disappears (after five days). Eruptions, Dry. Itching pimple on the right upper arm, above the bend of the elbow, not relieved by scratching, disappearing after twenty four hours (after one hour). Itching pimple on the right upper arm, by the bend of the elbow, above the former eruption (after two hours). (* See S. 934. *) A small pimple between the chin and lower lip, painful only on touch (after one hour). Itching of the pimples between the chin and lips, disappearing on scratching, at 2 P. M. Burning of the pimples between the lips and chin, at 3 P. M. The pimples on the lips itch violently, disappearing after scratching (after 4 hours). Itching on the left lower jaw; after scratching some itching pimples appear, with burning after scratching a long time (seventh and eighth days). Eruptions, Moist. Itching near the lower lip on the left side, as if an eruption were there; and there really were some vesicles in the skin, not relieved by scratching. Small vesicles on the margin of the upper lip, without sensation (after one hour). Redness, with small, barely perceptible vesicles, between the index, middle, and ring fingers of both hands, itching violently, burning after scratching; in the evening, only disappearing on the fourth day. A clear vesicle on the left corner of the mouth (after four days). Eruptions, Pustular. Small boil in the right corner of the mouth, smarting when touched (second day). A small red boil in front of the right ear, with pain as if suppurating when touched (in the evening). Subjective. Fleabite on the outer surface of the left upper arm (after three hours); A stitch like a fleabite in the nape of the neck (after one hour); in right great toe, at 2.30 P. M. Crawling between the left thumb and index finger, disappearing on rubbing (after two hours). Crawling in the sole of the left foot (after a quarter of an hour). A feeling as if fleas or flies were creeping on the forehead, obliging him to rub it, when it disappeared, though not for a long time; 7.30 P. M. (Second day). Constant sensation as of the creeping of flies or as of cobwebs in the right side of the face, so that she is constantly obliged to wipe it (fifth, sixth and seventh days). Tickling on the left wing of the nose (after five minutes). Tickling here and there in the face as from a hair; he is constantly obliged to wipe it (after one hour and a half). Feeling in the right cheek as if a hair were moving on it; he is constantly obliged to wipe it without removing it (after two hours). Tickling in the left lower leg, not relieved by scratching (after one hour). Tickling posteriorly beneath the left heel disappearing on rubbing, at 2 P. M. Itching on the forehead, not relieved by rubbing a long time (after ten minutes). Itching on the left side of the forehead (after half an hour). Itching on the right frontal eminence (after one hour). Itching on the right frontal eminence and burning after scratching (after half an hour). Itching on the left frontal eminence disappearing after scratching (after three-quarters of an hour). itching in the left eyebrow (after two hours). Itching in the left upper eyebrow relieved by scratching (after three quarters of an hour). Itching in the left lobule not disappearing on scratching (after one hour and a half). Itching of the nose especially of the tip (after five hours). Itching in the right side of the nose so that she was obliged to scratch it till it bled, in the morning (fourth day). Itching in the left nostril not relieved by rubbing (after two hours). Itching in the middle of the upper lip disappearing after scratching (after half an hour). Itching between the chin and lips of the right side not relieved by scratching (after two hours). Itching in the right groin disappearing on scratching (after two hours). Itching between the shoulders at 3 P. M. Itching and crawling as from fleas between the shoulders (after half an hour). Itching behind the right shoulder not relieved by scratching (after half an hour). Itching on the back near the right scapula (after one hour). Itching on the coccyx that disappears on rubbing. Itching on the right upper arm after scratching pimples which burn (fourth day). Itching in the bend of the left elbow burning after scratching (after half an hour). Itching on the external surface of the left elbow disappearing after scratching (after half an hour). Itching on the right forearm burning after scratching (after one hour and a half). Itching on the left forearm after scratching pimples which soon disappear (fifth day). Itching on the right natis after dinner. Itching on the right lower leg relieved by scratching (after two hours). Itching on the left calf, which disappears on scratching but soon returns. Itching on the inner margin of the right foot (after three hours and a half).

Sleep and Dreams.

Sleepiness. Yawning and sleepiness. Yawning without sleepiness. Frequent yawning (after a quarter of an hour and two hours also second afternoon. Frequent yawning without sleepiness (after a quarter of an hour). Frequent yawning with chilliness. Frequent yawning with shivering (after three hours and a half). Frequent yawning and shivering followed by gooseflesh lasting two minutes (after half an hour). Very frequent yawning. Sleepiness. (after 20 drops). Sleepiness immediately after dinner. Sleepiness very early at 6 P. M. he cannot keep sleep away. Sleepiness yawning and stretching (after one hour). Great sleepiness in the evening, in the morning it was difficult to rise (after 14 drops). Greater sleepiness with burning in the eyes in the evening. Inclination to sleep (after 200 drops). Inclination to sleep as early 11 A.M. so that he was obliged to lie on the lounge and sleep after sleeping a quarter of an hour he found it almost impossible to rise and move about, on account of weakness (after 20 drops). Very sleepy weak (after two hours and a half). So sleepy that he could not keep from falling asleep while in the house and it was only out of doors that he was able to keep awake (after 20 drops). Sleep irresistible after dinner, after which he felt very well (after 10 drops). He was unable to keep from sleeping in the evening; was awakened about 7 o’clock for supper; he sat up and ate but immediately fell asleep again without speaking after awhile he started in sleep then jumped high up frightening those about him stood up and walked to the middle of the room with staring eyes and red face; at last he lay down without speaking and slept soundly till morning (first evening. Sleep from noon till 3 P. M. (quite contrary to habit), though he had slept well the night previous; and he also slept well on the succeeding night. Sleep sound and longer than usual. Very sound sleep at night continuing late in the morning; with some perspiration. Sleeplessness. Very difficult falling asleep; Constant tossing about in bed; she cannot sleep before 1 A.M. Unable to sleep before 11 P. M. He awoke about midnight and could not fall asleep; was constantly obliged to toss about as if the bed were too hard. Uneasy sleep, frequently waking. Sleep prevented by unusual excitement and flushes of heat. Dreams. Sleep sound; full of lively and sad dreams. Very vivid though unremembered dreams. Confused dreams all night. A dream of which he was perfectly conscious in the night could not be recalled in the morning. Heavy, anxious dreams. He dreamed that he was standing upon a very high and not very secure ledge, or upon a high scaffolding without being anxious. Frightful dreams of fires which wake her. Frightful dreams of dead men, or fires.
