Superior Extremities.

A feeling as though both arms were drawn inward, although she could stretch them out without pain (after three quarters of an hour). Shoulder. Weariness in the shoulders. Tearing in the right shoulder (after one hour). Pain, almost like a tearing, in the left shoulder, not disappearing on rubbing (after three- quarters of an hour). Violent tearing in the left shoulder, disappearing on rubbing (after three hours and a half). Violent, painful tearing in the left shoulder from 6 to 8.30 P. M. Violent but transient tearing in the right shoulder (after one hour and a quarter). Arm. The head of the right humerus is painful, as if it were swollen and had not room enough in the capsule of the joint. Tension on the inner surface of the upper arm, by the elbow, as if the skin were raised by a needle; at 2.30 P. M. Pinching pain on the anterior surface of the right upper arm. Pressive pain in the tendon of the deltoid muscle. A stitch in the right upper arm, followed by bruised pain, extending into the shoulder (after half an hour). Three burning stitches in the right upper arm by the elbow (after half an hour). Tearing on the inner surface of the upper arm (after half an hour). Tearing in the middle of both upper arms, as if in the bone, not disappearing on rubbing (after half an hour). Sudden violent tearing in the muscles of the right upper arm (after one hour and a half). Gnawing in the right upper arm, relieved while pressing upon it, afterwards sensitive to pressure (after one hour). Elbow. Pain in the left elbow. Sticking in the left elbow (after one hour and a half). Stitch in the lower surface of the right elbow (after two hours). Tearing through the bend of the right elbow into its tip (after one hour and a half). Forearm. Heaviness in the forearm, and pain on the inner condyle of the elbow, when touched (after half an hour). Tensive pain in the tendons of the right forearm. Cramplike pain in the left forearm, aggravated by lying upon it. Pressive tearing in the middle of the left forearm (after two hours). Wrist. Stiffness of the right wrist, as if it had been sprained. Pain, as from a sprain, in the right wrist. Stitch on the outer condyle of the left wrist (after three-quarters of an hour) Fine stitch in the right wrist, disappearing after rubbing, but then returning, afterwards going away of itself; followed by a similar stitch in the upper arm (after a quarter of an hour). Tearing on the inner surface of the left wrist at 2 P. M. Jerking-tearing in a small spot on the right wrist (after two hours and three quarters). Hand. Veins on the hands distended (after two hours). The veins on the backs of the hands are distended (after two hours and three-quarters). Trembling of the hand (one hour after 25 drops). The hands burn internally, at 2 P. M. (second day). Jerking-burning on the back of the left hand at 4 P. M. Feeling as if the right hand were swollen; a tension on stretching it out, and clenching it (after one hour). Cramped pains, mingled with stitches, in the ligaments of the left metacarpal bones, during rest. Tearing on the back of the left hand at 2 P. M. (second day). Tearing on the back of the right hand, extending towards the fingers, disappearing on rubbing (after one hour and a half). Tearing on the outer margin of the left hand towards the little finger, relieved by rubbing (after two hours). Fingers. Paralytic-like pain in the second joint of the left middle finger, which extends upwards and downwards, but is very transient. Burning about the nail and ball of the left thumb (after half an hour). Painful drawing in the fingers of the left hand. Acute periodic drawings in the fingers of the left hand (first day). A very painful twinging in the second joint of the left middle finger, as if the joint would be forced asunder; in the evening in bed (after fifteen hours). Paralytic, pressive pain in the thumb and metacarpal bones of the right hand (after four hours). Pain, as from a dislocation, in the first joint of the right thumb. Sticking in the posterior portion of the back of the right thumb, after dinner. Pressive-sticking pain in the last joint of the right thumb, in the morning in bed. Fine stitch in the ball of the left little finger (after two hours). A fine needle like stitch on the outer surface of the left index finger, about 1 P. M. Tearing in the left middle finger, disappearing on rubbing (after two hours and a half). Tearing and sticking in the left thumb, just behind the nail, at 2 P. M. Tearing in the right little finger (after two hours). Violent tearing in the right thumb; and a feeling as if the tendons would become contracted; disappearing on rubbing (after two hours). Fine tearing extending up the left ring finger (after one hour and a half). Some fine tearing in the right thumb, and, after it ceases, tearing extending from the wrist to the middle of the forearm; followed by bruised pain in the upper arm (after one hour). Tearing pains in the upper articular extremity of the left middle finger; the pains were aggravated by external touch.

Inferior Extremities.

Hip. Pain, as from a dislocation, in the left hip- joint on motion. A stitch in the right hip extending backwards (after one hour and a quarter). Stitch deep in the right hip, while standing, disappearing on moving about; frequently. Two stitches in succession in the right hip, extending from behind forward (after one hour and one hour and a quarter). Thigh. Pain, as from stiffness, in the tendons of the inner right femoral muscles. A paralytic-like pain in the left thigh, which extends down below the knee. Burning in the left thigh near the pubis, immediately disappearing (after one hour and a half). A pressive pain on the posterior surface of the middle of the left thigh, which, on grasping it, pains as if beaten. Stitching in the left natis during dinner. Frequent stitches on the posterior surface of the right thigh at 4 P. M. Dull stitches on the inner surface of the left thigh, aggravated by pressing upon it, lasting half an hour (after three quarters of an hour). Violent, dull stitch in the posterior portion of the right thigh (after one hour). A coarse stitch in the nates (after two hours). Fine stitch in the right natis, rather by the anus, at 2.30 P. M. A bruised feeling in the middle of the left thigh. Both thighs are painful in the middle, as if bruised, or as if he had walked several miles on motion. The thighs are painful in the middle, as if beaten. Pain, as from a blow, in the gluteal muscles, noticed only when sitting or grasping them. Jerking on the outer surface of the right thigh; burning after scratching (second evening ). (* A misprint for itching may possibly have occurred in the original. T.F.A. A jerking pain in the left thigh just above the knee. Knee. Trembling in the knees when moving about in the open air, disappearing when sitting (after half an hour). Unsteadiness in the knee-joints on descending steps, as if they would give way. Pain, as from weariness, about the knees after rising from a seat (after one hour). Tension in the knee bones after rising from a seat, disappearing in the open air (after one hour). Pinching pain beneath the left knee, towards the outer part. Sticking in the knee on stretching out the left leg (after two hours). Fine sticking on the inner surface of the right knee (after three-quarters of an hour). Stitches in the left knee. Tearing in the right knee, disappearing on rubbing (after two hours and three-quarters). Tearing beneath the left knee, on the outer surface (after two hours). Tearing in the left knee; immediately afterwards jerking-tearing in the right shoulder (after one hour and a half). Jerking in the bend of the right knee (after one hour). Leg. The right lower leg falls asleep on moving about (after one hour and a quarter). Heaviness in the lower leg, particularly the right, especially while spinning; not changed by walking, only the vertigo was aggravated (after three quarters of an hour). She thinks the right lower leg is hot while spinning (after one hour and a half). Paralytic, pressive pain in the left leg, worse on motion. Tearing and tension in the left lower leg, with a feeling as if some one pulled the skin there (after half an hour). Tearing about the right tibia, on the inner surface, towards the calf (after three-quarters of an hour). Fine tearing extending down the right tibia, as if in the bone (after one hour). Gnawing on the upper part of the right tibia; the pain extended thence into the inner surface of the knee (after one hour and a quarter). Visible but painless jerking of the right calf, that disappears on stretching out the foot, in the morning in bed. Tensive pain in the left calf (after twenty-four hours). Tensive pressive pain on the outer side of the left calf. Violent tearing extending from the left calf to the inner malleolus, disappearing on moving about (after one hour and a half). Beating pains in the right tendo Achillis; they frequently disappear and soon reappear; about 4 A.M. in bed. Ankle. Weary and lame in the ankles on motion. Pain, as from a sprain, in both ankles during rest and motion. Paralytic, pressive pain about the inner malleolus of the left foot (after four hours). Tearing and burning beneath the right inner malleolus, in a small spot, relieved by rubbing, disappearing on moving about (after two hours). Painful jerking on the right outer malleolus, followed by bruised pain on the back of the foot (after two hours and a half). Foot. The feet are weary and as if beaten (after a quarter of an hour). Great weariness in the feet while standing after walking (after three-quarters of an hour). Weakness in the feet, disappearing on walking (after three quarters of an hour). Feeling of stiffness in the feet, after rising from a seat, relieved by walking about, at 2.30 P. M. Pain, as from a sprain, in the left os calcis while walking. Jerking on the outer border of the right foot, followed by a sensation as if a worm were moving about on the external malleolus; at 2.30 P. M. The sole of the right foot falls asleep on riding the leg over the other (after twenty minutes). The sole of the left foot falls asleep (after one hour). The sole of the right foot frequently falls asleep while sitting (after one hour and a half). Contractive pain in the right plantar muscles. Pain, as from an ulcer, on the soles of both heels on rising from bed, disappearing on walking about. Toes. Burning in the ball of the right great toe, disappearing on rubbing (after three hours). Sticking pain beneath the left great toe. Tearing in the right second toe, relieved by rubbing (after two hours).
