Ears

Objective. Slightly inflamed swelling at the entrance of the left meatus auditorius, which was more annoying than painful, and gradually disappeared (after four days). Subjective. A slow stitch like a drawing through the external meatus of the right ear; followed later by roaring in the whole of the head, as if a dull noise at a distance was heard (eighty fourth day). Pressure in the right ear in the evening (one hundred and sixth day). Pressing out feeling in the mastoid process (second day). Sticking in the ears. Stitches in the ear (one hundred and ninth day). Stitches in the left ear and outer portion of the neck, on the left side (thirty second day). Stitches in the left ear and parotid gland (twenty fifth day). Stitches within the right ear, in the forenoon (sixty first day), Transient acute stitch in the right ear (ninety seventh day). Some transient but violent stitches in the left ear (nineteenth day). Violent stitches in the left ear, extending into the palate and the same side of the head and outer cervical regions, which latter was also painful to touch, and glands swollen (thirty first day). Dull stitches through the external meatus, extending into the right ear, twice repeated, in the afternoon, while walking (one hundred and seventh day). Tearing pain in the ears. Hearing. Singing in the ears, roaring in the head. Roaring and ringing in the ears. Roaring in the ears lasting for two hours, soon; after the third dose on the second day roaring in the ear reappeared, and lasted without intermission the whole of that day and the succeeding one.

Nose

Objective. Swelling and pain of the nose, Swelling of both alae of the nose. A scab in the left nostril, which on removal bled, immediately formed again and bled on every removal, without marked pain; it healed only after four days; on the second day after a new dose the some place began to bleed, and than only healed after fourteen days. The whole membrane of the septum dotted with minute ulcerations (one case). A large and deep ulceration on the septum, without perforation (one case). Septum nerium completely ulcerated away. Entire cartilaginous septum destroyed, and the whole nasal mucous membrane in a state of purulent inflammation; the disease had been mistaken for syphilis (one case). Violent pricking in the nose and irresistible sneezing; in time the membrane to be thrown off, and portions of it are carried into the handkerchief used in blowing the nose; this process goes on, when once started, so rapidly, that after a after a period of six or eight days the septum become thin, permeated with openings, and is ultimately detached altogether; this process of ulceration occurs in every workman, excepting those who take snuff. Fine particles entering the nose cause extreme irritation and incessant sneezing (after five or six days); some portions of the mucous membrane covering the septum become detached, and are found in the handkerchief, and after six or eight days the septum itself becomes thin, and at last is destroyed a hole is formed, and as soon as this is the case, all symptoms cease. Clinkers form in the course of a few days, and can than be easily detached; but it pulled away too soon, it causes soreness at root of nose, and intolerance of light. Formation of plug in nostrils (called by the workmen clinkers, to a great extent). Sneezing; on lying down in bed (fifth day). Sneezing, with lachrymation of right eye. Sneezing, with a sensation of pressure in the upper part of the larynx, which extends through the choanae into the nose (after half an hour, first day). Sneezing a few times (sixty third day). (320), Sneezing as many as ten times in succession in the morning eleventh day, Sneezing repeatedly soon. After eating (first day)., Frequent sneezing, in the morning sixth day. Frequent sneezing without increased secretion of mucus (twentieth day). Discharge of thin matter from the nose (thirty to thirty fifth day). Much thin discharge from both nostrils (eighty ninth day). Thin discharge from the right nostril eighty seventh day. Thin acrid discharge from the nose (seventy seventh day Watery discharge, with redness of nose, and a fetid smell from it, watery discharge from the nose, watery discharge from nose, with soreness, much sneezing snuffling in speaking, discharge of water from the nose, causing burning of the upper lip, in the morning’; this discharge continued in the evening, but then caused no burning of the lip (seventy eighth day). Frequent discharge of water from the nose, without any painful sensation afterwards repeated but then it caused a corrosive pain on the outer cutaneous margin of the septum of the nose (seventy third day). (350). Discharge of water from both nostrils, (seventeenth day). Watery discharge from both nostrils with tickling and itching (twenty second day). Frequent unnoticed discharge of water from the right nostril (seventy seven day), Running of water from the right nostril, Running of water from the right nostril; after awhile the nose became quite dry (one hundred and fifth day). Frequent running of water from the nose, towards noon(one hundred and fifth day). Constant running of water from the right nostril, which causes burning on the margin of the nostril and on the upper lip (eight second day). Constant running of water from the left nostril; this is a very remarkable symptom, for it had never occurred in health; besides I have remarkable symptom, for it had never occurred in health; besides I have no other symptoms of catarrh, and the water comes so suddenly and without any previous sensation that I am only aware of it when it runs over the lip (eighty first day). Nose constantly full of thick mucus fourteenth day. Great discharge of thick clear mucus from the nose. Scanty acrid mucus was discharged from the nose, causing burning on the septum of the nose (thirty sixth day). Feeling of dryness in the nose, especially in the right nostril although some moisture is discharged from the nose during the forenoon (twenty ninth day). Nose quite dry, on waking in the morning after being up a while much moisture was again discharged from both nostrils (eighty third day). Nose very dry; air passed through it very easily (sixty six day). Nose very dry, with painful tension in both wings and septum of the nose (one hundred and twenty second day). Nose very dry, with a feeling of pressure in the nasal bones (sixty eight day). Great dryness of the nose (fifty second day). Unpleasant sensation in my nose, as if water had been drawn up violently; it grew gradually worse, and lasted about forty eight hours; on the third day and fourth, and fifth days I had to blow my nose more frequently than usual, about ten or twelve times a day, and discharged each time natural looking mucus, considerably streaked with light colored blood ( I never had nosebleed in my life). After this, for several days, a sensation in the middle of the left ala nasi as if there was a very dry spot, or as if it was denuded of the mucous membrane, pains in the nose (with discharge, etc., Burning in the nose, especially in the right nostril, extending to the frontal sinuses; the mucous membrane was quite dry, with a feeling of soreness (fifty ninth day).Burning in the nose and upper lip, but no discharge from the nose, in the forenoon (one hundred and thirty seventh day). With frequent violent sticking pains; there were frequently discharged greenish colored masses of an offensive odor; every portion which passed through the posterior nares had a very disagreeable taste; on the seventh day the pain in the nose, both when blowing and when not blowing it, continues as violent yesterday; on the eight day, the feeling as though as bones rubbed against each other ceased; the right nostril was still filled with hard masses; small ulcers on the external borders of the nostrils continued; the ulcers on the right side had not entirely healed before they also appeared in the left nostril, where they burned still more than in the right; at right at last the tip of the nose, especially towards the right side, became very sensitive the scars formed by the healing of these ulcers remained for a long time, (430). Soreness in the nose; the lower (outer) surface of the septum there is a yellow scab, which is increasing, it is chiefly at the junction of the septum with the upper lip, soreness in the right nostril, the dorsum of the nose was painful to touch (tenth day). Margins of the nose feel sore (one hundred and twenty third day). Sore pain on the right side of the septum of the nose, especially when touched after which it was most violent (twenty second day). Dull sore pain on the right surface of the septum of the nose when touched, and afterwards becoming a burning (twenty third day). Nose painful and dry, except in the morning, when a watery discharge took place, (440) The septum, of the nose is painful with burning, especially after being touched, as after a pinch of strong snuff (thirty second day). Tickling in the nose (seventy sixth day). Tickling in the nose frequently caused sneezing, without any catarrh (first day). Tickling in the left nostril (first day). Tickling and burning in the nose frequently returned after the proving, tickling and itching in the nose (twenty third day). Tickling and itching in the nose, associated with crawling and formication in the left side of the nose and twitching in the margins of the lids of the same side (twenty fifth day). Disagreeable tickling in the left nostril, high up, as if a hair were moving in it, so, that I was unconsciously obliged to bore in with the finger, in the evening while in the house, there was nothing in the nose and it was quite dry (fiftieth day). Distressing tickling sensation in the nose (twelfth and thirteenth day). Itching in the nose (thirty first day; Almost intolerable (thirty second day). (450) Annoying itching and tickling in the nose, increased by rubbing (nineteenth day). Smell. Smell extremely acute (fifth day). Diminished sense of smell (thirtieth to thirty fifth day). Smell even for strong odors blunted (to the astonishment of others) third day. Sensation of smell for very strong odors lost (this symptom was observed more or less during the whole proving). Thirty first day. Destitute of smell for nineteen years (after first week). Offensive odor in the nose. Sensation of a fetid smell. Imaginary putrid smells (with eructations, and taste of rancid bacon), (after fourth dose).
