Phosphorus



Substances vomited were fluid and of a yellowish-green color.

Vomiting of bile, for eighteen hours, and followed for four hours by qualmish nausea and loss of appetite, without an unnatural taste in the mouth (after eighteen hours). Vomiting of bile, several times. Vomiting of bile, all night. Had vomited twice copiously; the vomited matter was as black as soot; on examining it with the microscope I found it composed of a mixture of fatty substance and blood-corpuscles, mostly misshapen, or even reduced to the condition of amorphous molecules; the liquid vomited was acid (fourth day). Vomiting of dark filamentous substances consisting of blood mingled with bile and mucus (second day).

Vomiting of dark acid matter, always mixed with some blood (fifth day). Vomiting of a dark matter (first day); at intervals (second day). Vomiting of black substances (third day). Vomiting of black substances consisting of decomposed blood, followed by death.

Black vomit. Vomiting of black substances shortly before death (fifth day). Vomiting scanty, greenish (after fifty-one hours).

Vomiting of sour and brown liquid. Vomiting of quantities of a dark-brown liquid. Vomiting brownish-black, with a metallic taste (after six hours). Vomiting of yellow masses (first day); frequent nausea; vomiting of all food (after four days). Vomiting of yellow mucus, and afterwards of dark-brown substances (second day). Vomiting, consisting of dark reddish-brown, bloody ejecta (after six days). She was at times very sick, and the matters thrown up were thick and of a dark reddish-brown color (fourth day). Ejecta, by vomiting, brownish-red and bloody (ninth day).

Sourish vomiting, on coughing. Sour vomiting or retching, for several mornings, after a stool (after fourteen days). Vomiting; the vomited matter emitted the distinct phosphoric odor, and presented the characteristic luminosity of appearance of Phosphorus, when viewed in the dark. Vomiting of food, in the evening. Vomiting of mucus, tasting of olive oil, at night.

Vomiting of a peculiarly offensive kind. Vomiting of food (third day). Vomiting; the vomited matter “lighted up like a match, and smoked like a firebrand” (soon). Vomiting of about 100 grams of pure blood (daily, from the eleventh to nineteenth days, except on the fourteenth, and also on twenty fifth day). Vomiting of blood (eighth day). Vomiting of bloody mucus. Ineffectual attempts to vomit, with most frightful tremors, relieved only by drinking cold water. Empty vomiting. General Stomach. Stomach greatly distended, the abdomen retracted (third day). Stomach distended. Epigastric region tense, very sensitive to pressure; abdomen soft, not painful (third day). Epigastric region greatly distended and painful. Epigastric and hepatic regions distended and sensitive to pressure (tenth day). Stomach distended by gas.

Swelling and sensibility over the stomach to touch. Great distension of the epigastric region (third day). Epigastrium distended. Epigastric region tense and very painful (third day).

Epigastric region painful and distended (fourth day). Violent gastro-enteritis; the patient was lying cold and pale, like a dying person, unconscious, sunk down in bed, skin covered with cold clammy sweat, here and there a waxy-yellow color, the face almost leaden-gray, with dark rings around the eyes, mouth closed, lips blue, respiration retarded, short, difficult; heart’s impulse weak, intermittent, radial pulse small, slow, irregular, now and then intermittent; epigastric region and abdomen distended, exceedingly sensitive to the slightest touch; the patient could scarcely bear the weight of her night-dress, so that she made constant automatic efforts to free herself from all clothing. Symptoms of the most violent gastro-enteritis; lips red, tongue white, epigastric region very painful to pressure and rather hard, abdomen tympanitic, but painless; very great thirst; respiration 40. Inflammation and gangrene of the stomach and intestinal canal, with violent burning and cutting. After bleeding him at the instep, the stomach became meteorized (after seven days). Inflammation of the stomach. Sensitiveness of the epigastric region, aggravated by pressure; at the same time the pulse became very rapid. 128, the temperature rose to 38.5*; during the following night tormented by violent thirst, without sleep, small pulse, 96, temperature 33.8*, with headache; the icterus of the body was very intense, even the face was slightly yellow; tongue dry, yellowish; fetid odor from the mouth; epigastric region distended, very sensitive to pressure; palpitation beneath the right ribs moderately painful; this was followed by rapid prostration, collapse, and death. The stomach was very sensitive, and tolerated only light food for several days. Epigastric region sensitive to the slightest touch.

Epigastric region very sensitive. Epigastric region very sensitive, only on deep pressure. Discomfort in the epigastric region (seventh day). Sensation of a disordered stomach, in the evening, as though it were pressed together, aggravated by real pressure. Stomach disordered, weak for a long time. Feeling as of a disordered stomach, at night. Bad digestion. (* From repeated overdosing; with S. 1571 and 2023.-HUGHES. *) Difficult digestion of food, usually taken without trouble. Disturbances of digestion are common among the workers; eructations, irregular stools, etc. Sensation of heaviness in the stomach. A little heaviness in stomach (second day). Great fulness in the stomach.

Fulness in the stomach. Very distressing sensation of distension in the stomach, as if it were full of gas, associated with a feeling of hunger, without eructations. Pain in the stomach, as if full, in the evening, lasting till falling asleep. Distended pain in the stomach, in the morning. Feeling of tightness in the pit of the stomach, soon after a dose. Sensation of stoppage in the region of the fundus of the stomach (after a few minutes).

Tightness of the pit of the stomach (first day). A sensation of emptiness and fasting in the stomach. Stomach feels empty, without appetite. Sensation of emptiness and weakness at the pit of the stomach (second day). Heat, with violent pain, in the pit of the stomach. Heat in the stomach (second day). Sensation of fervent heat in the stomach, afterwards over the whole abdomen.

Violent burning in the stomach. Violent burning pain in the pit of thee stomach (second day). Violent burning pains in the epigastric region. Violent burning in the stomach, with violent thirst, anxiety, facial convulsions, violent shivering, cold extremities, bright watery eyes, pale lips, weak pulse, loss of strength (followed by death). Violent burning in the stomach and intestines. Violent burning heat in the stomach, that even came out of the mouth like a hot gas. Incessant burning pain in the stomach. Violent burning in the stomach. Constant and increasing burning sensation at the epigastrium, for two days (after five days). Burning in the epigastric region (first day). Burning in the stomach (after ten days). Burning in the stomach and intestinal canal. Burning and cutting in the epigastric region.

Burning in the stomach extending into the throat, like heartburn.

Burning pain in the epigastric region and over the whole abdomen, and extending upwards into the fauces. Burning pain in the epigastric region, aggravated by deep pressure (third day).

Burning sensation in the stomach, and craving for cold water to drink. Burning pain in the epigastric region. Slight burning and prickling in the stomach, accompanied by eructations of whitish vapors through the mouth and nose (after fifteen minutes).

Glowing sensation throughout the epigastrium and chest (after second dose, third day). Glowing sensation in the stomach (first day). Feeling of warmth or heat in the stomach, at times with cold hands. Slight warmth in the stomach (soon). Feeling of coldness in the stomach, at times alternating with warmth.

Violent pain in epigastric region. Violent pain in the stomach, gradually spreading over the whole abdomen, with vomiting, at first of green, afterwards of blackish substances. Complained of violent pain in the stomach and bowels, attended with unceasing painful vomiting and diarrhoea, towards evening (first day).

Violent pain in the pit of the stomach. Most violent pain in the stomach encircling the base of the thorax like a girdle. Violent pains in the epigastrium and right hypochondrium, with frequent vomiting (second day). Violent pains in the epigastric region on pressure (third day). Very acute pain, with burning heat, in the epigastric region. Excessive painfulness of the epigastrium and right hypochondrium. Intense pains in the epigastrium (after twelve hours). Much pain in the stomach, with nausea and dulness of the head, at noon, a few hours after eating. Pains in the stomach (after eight hours); increasing in extent, and extending to both hypochondria, and in the second evening to the lumbar region. Acute pain in the epigastrium. Acute pain in the epigastrium and abdomen (second day). Pains in epigastrium, etc.
