SULPHAMIDO-CHRISTODINE

In the British Homoeopathic Medical Journal, of London, dated May 24, 1941, Dr. Tyler brings out the relationship of similitude between cerebral meningitis of the meningococcus type and the effects produced by the employment of massive doses of sulphapyridine in the City Isolation Hospital of Plymouth.

In Homoeopathy, the journal of the British Homoeopathic Association, in the editorial which appeared in June 1941, a statement is published relative to similar cases, that is to say the resemblance between the effects of sulphapyridine and those of cerebrospinal meningitis.

Dr. Allan D. Sutherland, of Brattleboro, Vermont, and Dr. Roberts, both from the United States of America, in the year of 1940, have been the first to carry out a rigorously Hahnemannian proving with Sulphamido-chrisoidine or Prontosil rubrum, and have provided us with the following data:.

The medicament was administered in the 3x, 6x. and 200, to men and women in a complete state of health, obtaining the following symptomatology: dullness of mind, confusion and loss of memory, deafness and a sensation like that produced by alcoholic intoxication, vertigo, made worse by smoking and becoming better in the open air, headache with coldness, aggravation in the mornings, pustular eruption in the frontal region, blepharitis in both eyelids with aggravation in the coldness, aggravation in the mornings, pustular eruption in the frontal region, blepharitis in both eyelids with aggravation in the internal angle of the left eye, ringing and buzzing in both ears with occipital pain.

Watery, serous or mucosanguinolent discharges form the nose, aggravated in the early mornings, aggravation from blowing the nose, with hammering pain at the level of the frontal sinuses, worse on touching and improvement under warmth when the secretions are established, red spots upon the nose, sneezing.

Upon the face were produced eruptions of a pustular type at the level of the forehead, cheeks, nasal fossae and chin. Dark colored spots on the left angle of the jaw.

In the mouth there was a disagreeable taste like that produced by sulphurated hydrogen, itching in the tongue as if fine needles were piercing it, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, retardation of the digestive functions, colic and spasmodic pains at the level of the abdomen, pain in the pelvic region with a sensation of heaviness that is reflected in the lumbar region.

Hepatitis and jaundice, diarrhoea which alternates with constipation. Pain at the level of the renal region with difficult micturition and tenesmus.

In women, derangement of the monthly cycle with sacrolumbar pains extending to the thighs, being worse upon the right side.

Respiratory difficulty with hyperapnoea, persistent dyspnoea with cyanosis and pain in the chest, tachycardia.

Pains in the back and neck, worse upon lying down.

In the upper and lower extremities the following symptoms were produced: Pain in the muscular masses of the arms, aggravation at the beginning of the movement and bettering upon prolonged movement, great muscular weakness.

Paresthesias, fatigue upon the least movement, bettering of all these symptoms in the open air. Hyperpyrexia or hypopyrexia with sweating.

The symptoms of the skin were obtained with the 200th, and eruptions of the morbilliform type, multiform erythema, urticaria, jaundice and yellowish spots on the skin were observed.

As sanguineous disturbances: leukopenia, hemolytic anaemia, agranulocytosis, acidosis, metahemoglobinemia, serious toxemia with high fever and a fast pulse were all diagnosed.

My clinical experience in the use of Sulphamido-chrisoidine or Prontosil rubrum, according to its toxicological effects, laboratory studies and pathogenesy, after rigorous statistics covering more than 250 cases, allows me to determine their indications with precision in the following clinical cases, according to the symptomatic state of the patient:.

Erysipelas, amygdalitis, sinusitis and medium otitis, mastoiditis, pharyngitis, osteomyelitis, urethritis of gonococcal origin; conjunctivitis, arthritis; albuminuria, crystalluria and renal lithiasis; trachoma and several disease of the skin such as urticaria, lupus erythematosus, purpuriform exanthema, oedemas of angioneurotic type and some melanodermas.

CONCLUSIONS

1. The Prontosil rubrum or Sulphamido-chrisoidine, like all other sulphamidate products, presents precise indications in order to know the etiology of the case.

2. Notwithstanding the recommendations of physicians of the traditional school, regarding the posology of the remedy (sanguineous concentration dose) the Prontosil rubrum has a therapeutic action at 3x., 6x., 30x., 100 and 200, and

3. The employment of Prontosil rubrum, as well as all the sulphamidate products in adequate doses, constitutes a powerful factor in helping organic defenses in their struggle against infections.

THEREFORE:

WITH MORE EXTENSIVE RE-EXPERIMENTATIONS, FOLLOWING OUT THE CANONS POINTED OUT BY THE FOUNDER OF HOMOEOPATHY, DR. SAMUEL CHRISTIAN FREDERIC HAHNEMANN, Prontosil rubrum OR Sulphamido- chrisoidine MUST BE INCLUDED AS A NEW REMEDY IN THE HAHNEMANNIAN ARSENAL.
