GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS.
Psoric constitution, but Psor. should not be given for psora or the psoric diathesis, but like every other remedy, upon a strict individualization, the totality of symptoms. (H.C. Allen).
In chronic cases when well selected remedies fail to relieve or permanently improve (in acute diseases, Sulph.); when Sulphur seems indicated but fails to act.
Lack of reaction after severe diseases; great debility and sweating after influenza (nervous weakness after influenza, Cypripedium). (Vital depression after any long illness, Scutellaria). (Convalescent weakness after grippe and protracted diseases, Avena sativa).
Great sense of weakness, easily tired out, riding exhausts him and the sun seems to press him down to the ground; this exhaustion is of ten due to lack of reaction after a severe illness with profuse seat on slight exertion; the body seems too heavy to manage, this tires him our and causes sweating. In pneumonia, pleurisy, or typhoid the selected remedy fails to produce a reaction, following Arn., Bry., Sulph; the tongue is clean, pulse and temperature normal, but the patient is weak, listless, almost lifeless and every attempt to introduce nourishment is followed by fever or intestinal disturbance. Lack of reaction after acute disease, does not convalesce; appetite will not return, wants to lie down, avoids motions; worse sitting up, lies on his back with arms thrown across bed to relieve oppression of breathing.
Great weakness and debility remaining after influenza and other acute diseases; from loss of animal fluids; independent of or without any organic lesion or apparent cause.
RECURRENCE: clears up confused cases.
The Psor. complex of symptoms is one in which remedies cause improvement for a short time, then symptoms change and another remedy has to be selected. It is a state of feeble reaction. (J.T.Kent).
Slowed down in all his functions, does not rally after acute diseases, never well after typhoid fever, great debility, slow digestion, slow defecation even with soft stools, slow urination.
CHRONICITY (Kali i., Syph.); lingering and recurring complaints.
Extremely psoric patients; nervous, restless, easily startled.
Weak, tender, thin; easily chilled, takes cold; clothing seems too large (Thuja); or he feels pushed down (Lyc.). (C.M.Boger).
Children are pale, delicate, sickly; sick babies will not sleep day or night, but worry, fret, cry; or child is good all day, restless, troublesome, screaming all night (Jalapa; reverse of Lyc.).
BODY HAS A FILTHY ODOR (Ars., Bapt., Graph., Hep., Kali i., Kali p., Nit.ac., Pyr., Sil., Sulph., Syph., Thuja); even after bathing; all excretions, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, menstrual flow, perspiration have an offensive, even a carrion-like odor. Breath foetid; discharges and oozings from the skin have a carrion-like odor; stool so offensive that odor penetrates the whole house, eructations state and smell of spoiled eggs; stool and flatus have rotten odor. Patient emits a musty odor; odor resembling sulphur, penetrating whole room.
Great sensitiveness to cold air, or change of weather; he feels stormy weather acutely, feels restless for days before or during a thunder storm; can predict with unfailing certainly the approach of a storm, especially an electrical storm (Phos., “human barometer”, sensitive during an electrical storm rather than before a storm).
SENSITIVE TO COLD, yet the SKIN SYMPTOMS ARE WORSE FROM HEAT.
Disposition to strains from overlifting; easily sprained and injured; the whole body is painful.
Ailments from suppressed itch or other skin diseases when Sulph. fails to relieve.
Severe ailments from even slight emotions.
Never well since typhoid fever.
Feels unusually well day before an attack, or there may be great hunger before an attack, but reacts badly and tends to chronicity.
Periodicity: same day, same week, same month each year.
Relapsing colds (Sulph., Tuberc.).
Rheumatic fever from exposure to cold, whether it be dry or damp (Hep., Tuberc.) (H.A.Roberts).
Thick secretions.
Profuse perspiration after acute diseases, with relief of all symptoms (calad., Nat.m.).
Abnormal tendency to receive skin diseases (Sulph.); eruptions easily suppurate (Hep.); skin dry, inactive, rarely seats; dirty look as if never washed; coarse, greasy as if bathed in oil; bad effects from suppressions by sulphur or zinc ointments.
Dreads to be washed or wants to wash parts (syph.).
