IDENTIFICATION
Face pale, especially while lying, earthy, flushes easily and becomes very red from least excitement or exertion, must move slowly about, like Pulsatilla, especially at night.
ESSENTIAL
Chest oppressed, like Phosphorus Pulse full and yielding, the reverse of Aconite, accelerated toward p.m. Membranes and lips pale. Depressed; despondent; hypochondriacal, even melancholic. Oversensitive to pain. Restless, cannot keep quiet, but aggravation. active effort. Weak. Limbs cold. Dyspnoea. Palpitation. Vertigo on suddenly rising from lying. Fatigue great, despite the appearance o health. Aggravation sweets; midnight and after; eggs, the reverse of Calc, and rest.
COMMENT.
Mind
Irritability, from noise, even the crackling of a newspaper drives one to despair.
Vertigo
Dizzy on rising quickly from lying, or from walking over a bridge, or running water, or from riding in a car or carriage.
Head
(L): Pain every 14 days, lasting 3 or 4 days, or, in frontal eminence, to vertex, amelioration open air, aggravation descending steps, or, in sides of head, after menses; boring, pulsating pain in temples; bursting pain in occiput, from excitement; pressing pain in forehead, after menses, and in right frontal eminence, a.m., after rising, amelioration open air, aggravation descending steps, to vertex and on vertex, from cold air; stitching pain in temples 3 a.m., Pip-m, 3 p.m.; pulsating in occiput, on stooping. Constant continued pain, for 2 or 3 days, compels lying.
Eyes
Vision acute at night, in hysterical subjects. Protrude with goitre.
Ears
Ring, during menses.
Nose
Dilated nostril, during expiration; epistaxis on stooping, or alternating with blood spitting. (L): Epistaxis of children.
Face
Pale, flushes easily; pale, with the pain; pain after overheating, aggravation heat. (L): Red after exertion, or during pain. Fiery red, feet cold.
Throat
Goitre, eyes protrude, palpitation, nervous. As if something rolled into throat and closed it like a valve.
Stomach
Aversion to drinks, during headache; eructations of food at noon; vomits only after eating. (L): Appetite alternately increased and lost; eructations of food, after eating; vomits after midnight, or, sudden while eating, or, after eggs, or, of food at midnight, or, before chill. Stomach like a leather bag, will digest nothing, empties itself as readily as it fills up.
Abdomen
Pain in liver on urging to urinate.
Rectum
Diarrhoea 8 a.m., and afternoon regularly. (L): Diarrhoea during eating.
Stool
Frequent, watery, much flatus, aggravation during or after eating or drinking.
Genitalia
Glans penis shrivelled and white, almost as pale as prepuce.
Respiratory
Asthmatic breathing, 10 to 11 a.m.; difficult breathing, amelioration talking or walking slowly, or writing; loud breathing while sitting quietly. Difficult breathing, amelioration motion. Must sit up in order to breathe, the reverse of Psorinum
Cough
(L): Aggravation motion; spasmodic cough, after eating; cough when walking. Cough aggravation after drinking anything warm.
Expectoration
Copious, while moving; bloody, during lactation.
Chest
Constriction, aggravation bed covering, amelioration lying with head high; cramp, on walking; haemorrhage, amelioration walking slowly; bursting pin in sternum, after cough. Congestion, aggravation midnight, must sit up and uncover chest in order to breathe and cool off. Use cautiously in advanced phthisis, on account of its power to produce haemorrhage. Oppression of chest is very marked, and it should be compared with Phosphorus In haemorrhagic phthisis the acetate, iodide or phosphate is preferable to the metal in such cases unless the similarity is close.
Back
Pulsating in cervical region, aggravation motion. Pain in lumbar region, amelioration walking slowly.
Limbs
Irresistible desire to bend arm; cold feet during headache, after menses; toes icy cold; left hand numb, right cold; pain amelioration slow motion and slow walking, and in upper arm amelioration slow motion; rheumatic pain in hips (1), and right shoulder, reverse of Ledum; boring pain in shoulder from weight of bed clothes; gnawing pain in upper left side arm, aggravation motion; pinching pain in right deltoid; sore, bruised pain in upper limbs, amelioration heat, and, in shoulder, placing arm backward impossible; swelling of feet, in chlorosis. (L): Pain in upper limbs, on raising arm; pain in lower limbs, before midnight; tearing pain in shoulder, cannot raise arm. Pain in deltoid, unable to raise arm.
Chill
Violent, afternoon, face red. Cold, 3 a.m., on waking; time, 3 a.m.; violent, face red, thirst. Chilly during day, cheeks flushed bright red, p.m.
Heat
Sense of heat all over body, body cold to touch, reverse of Baryta carb.
Sweat
Morning, till noon. (L): Copious, in bed, in morning.
General
Chlorosis, aggravation. Winter; weak, amelioration walking slowly, rapidly: Stann. Weak from mere speaking or walking. Anaemia of delicate girls with low spirits, who are badly constipated. Throbbing pains all over body, throb violently. Neuralgia from washing in cold water, especially when overheated. Aggravation from eating eggs, on ascending steps, sitting down and rising from a seat. Cases with profound prostration, generally restless, amelioration walking slowly about, aggravation active effort, even though looking strong. One of the very best remedies for overdosing with quinine.
