Not the great difference between the following medicines, about which there can be no confusion. The drugs are not interchangeable. Each one has its own disease picture.
ALLIUM CEPA. Symptoms indicating this medicine are: profuse, clear acrid discharges corroding the nose and upper lip, drops from the end of the nose, discharges cease on going into the open air. Eyes: profuse bland non-excoriating rears (opposite of Euphrasia).
EUPHRASIA. Nose: excessive non-corroding watery discharges. Eyes: continuous profuse scalding acrid tears, discharges excoriating the skin round the eyes, lids swollen, sometimes stuck together in the morning, cant bear light (opposite of Allium).
NUX VOMICA. Nose: fluent discharge in the say, worse in the morning stuffs up towards evening, when it becomes a dry cold. Frontal sinus (over nose) absolutely blocked (Nux vomica will save many an operation here). Cant breathe though nose. Snuffles. All symptoms better in a warm room. Cold air start discharges again. The patients disposition is very irritable, very cross at trifles.
PULSATILLA. No appetite; no thirst, sense of small and taste lessened or lost , much sneezing, cant bear light, burning feeling in eyes, eyelids inflamed, frequent styes, very shivery greatly relieved in open air, all secretions are thick, bland and yellowish-green.
EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM: (common name Bone-set). Sneezing constant, clear dribble from nose, terrible aching in all limbs, especially in long bones great pains come and go quickly.
GELSEMIUM: Its great key-notes are three Ds (Dull, Drowsy and Dizzy). Great backache, worse at nape of neck, great dull headache, pains go over the head with bursting sensation to forehead and into the eyeballs; scalp sore to the touch; watery nasal discharge, with fullness at root of nose; much sneezing; eyes very heavy, nearly closed, can hardly keep them open, bursting pains in the eyeballs, complete prostration, nervous chills, gooseflesh, cold extremities, wants to hug the fire, face flushed, the face is besotted in worst from, much yawning, and altogether a Dull, Drowsy and Dizzy patient. May have sudden gushing, painless and almost involuntary diarrhoeas, which is cream-coloured or light green.
