Chest

Inflammation of the chest. Rush of blood to the chest. Feeling of anxiety in the chest, instead of the headache, towards evening (first day). Heaviness and tightness of the whole chest (first day ). While coughing, a feeling as though something were loose in the chest (thirtieth day). Burning and sticking in the chest, in the evening (ninth day). Violent burning in the chest, extending up into the throat, until expectoration is loosened, in the morning (twenty-sixth day). Tensive pain across the chest, with stitches in the left side, under the ribs. Tightness of the chest from coughing, at night. Constriction in the chest, with anxious shortness of breath, in the forenoon, while standing (twenty second day). Cramp like constriction of the chest, with anxiety and dread of suffocation, alternating with cramp like drawing in the occiput and nape of the neck, of the left side, so that she had to hold the head backward, and at times so violent that she cried out (twenty-fifth day). Constriction, as if the lungs were constricted, preventing deep breathing, in the morning while lying, extending from the back into the chest; if she attempts to take a deep breath she is obliged to gasp for air, and it is followed by coughing (fourth day). Pressure and tightness of the chest (thirteenth day). Pressive pain in the chest, in the afternoon (twenty third day). Pressive pain in the chest.

Stitches in the middle of the upper part of the chest, after dinner (twenty-eighth day). Stitches in the left costal region at rhythmical intervals, after lifting a weight. Need to take a deep breath, in the evening, while sitting still, and on every inspiration a stitch in the left chest, taking away the breath, five times in succession (fifth day). Painful stitch in the left chest, on inspiration (seventeenth day). Front. Burning sensation in the forepart of the chest (third day). Pressure in the chest, beneath the sternum, the whole forenoon (sixth day). Pressure and sticking pain in the right side of the chest, at 8 P. M. (third day). Pressive pain behind the sternum, the whole day (seventh day). Pressive pain under the sternum when coughing, with a feeling of warmth and rattling in the same place; the expectoration seemed to be raised from low down in the chest (third day). Pressive pain in the lowest end of the sternum (after thirty-eight hours). Violent stitches in the upper part of the sternum, in the left side (eighteenth day). Sides. Pressive pain in the region of the false ribs; this pain afterwards extended farther towards the pit of the stomach, where it remained for a long time like a pressure, with increased loud eructations and loud emission of flatus the pressure in the stomach afterwards changed to a simple sensation of hunger (second day). When coughing, cutting beneath the sternum. Sticking and pain in the left side of the chest, for two hours, relieved while walking in the open air, but recurring more violently towards evening, like a cutting and tearing in the lungs aggravated by deep inspiration; then after half an hour chilliness and tearing in both limbs, from the knees to the toes, so that she was obliged to go to bed, where she became warm and fell asleep (seventh day). Sticking sensation in the left side of the chest, near the sternum, on deep inspiration. Painful sticking in the left side of the chest, that makes the breathing short (seventh day). Stitches in the right side, between fifth and sixth ribs, in the afternoon (fourth day). Stitches in the left side of the chest, more towards the back (twenty-seventh day). Transient stitches in the middle of the right side of the chest, in the morning (eighth day). Frequent transient stitches in the left side of the chest (sixth day). Violent stitches in the upper part of the sternum, in the left side (eighteenth day).-Fine stitches in the right side of the chest (soon). Stitch in the left side of the chest, when carrying a weight (twenty-first day). Tearing in the right side of the chest (intercostal muscles), (eighth day). Throbbing and pressive heaviness in the forepart of the chest, with inclination to faintness, while sitting (ninth day). Frequent sticking beneath the left female breast (thirty-second day). Stitches beneath the left breast, more when walking than during rest.

Heart and Pulse

Precordium. Violent stitch in the precordial region (after five hours). Heart’s Action. Violent beating of the heart, in the evening in bed, on account of which he awoke. Violent beating of the heart while lying upon the back, so that she awoke at midnight, and sat up full of anxiety (thirteenth day); violent palpitation at midnight, while lying on right side (fourteenth day). Palpitation on sudden motion and on standing up, with heat of the face and oppression of the chest. Momentary palpitation, at times (after fifteen days). Pulse. Pulse somewhat accelerated (after 11 and 13 grains). Pulse frequent, hardish (third day). Pulse hard and rather frequent, towards evening (seventh day). Pulse small and rapid, with warm hands. Very weak, rapid pulse. Pulse full, hard, and rapid, and a condition very like an inflammatory irritability of the whole body, but especially in the abdominal organs (second day). Pulse very rapid for an hour, in the afternoon, while at rest. Pulse very rapid, at 4 P. M. with heat in the head for an hour (twenty eighth day). Pulse increased in frequency by ten beats (first day). Pulse 70 (usually 65) (first day). Pulse 80 (usually 65), with some palpitation (first day). Pulse 90 in the evening (usually 65), (ninth day). Pulse slow, small, and weak. Pulse sunk in strength and frequency. Pulse diminished by 3 beats for a short time (after 9 grains). Immediately after taking the drug, especially in large doses, the pulse was from 3 to 4 beats slower than usual, partly on account of the cooling effect of the saltpetre, and partly from the cold water; this condition lasted a very short time, three four minutes, and the circulation returned to its usual course. Pulse reduced from 65 to 62 (after a few minutes); normal (after half an hour). Pulse very weak, small, and thready, at 60 (after four hours). Pulse hard, with symptoms of enteric inflammation (second day). Pulse somewhat smaller and softer than usual (two hours after two scruples). Pulse small and weak. Weak pulse,; (after a quarter of an hour).

Neck and Back

Neck. Stiffness of the nape of the neck. Pain, like a stiffness in the nape of the neck, as if sprained, on nodding or turning the head, lasting three days (after thirty-three days). Tensive pain in the right sternocleidomastoid muscle on turning the head. Tearing in the cervical muscles of the right side, extending from the shoulder to the head.-Painful throbbing in a cervical vertebra, after raising the head from stooping. Back. Paralysis of the spine, with tetanus. Pain in the back (after twenty seven days). Pain in the back when coughing. pain in the back on stooping. Constant pain in the back while fasting. Pinching pain in the back, in the evening (after thirty eight hours). Pressure and burning in the back; relieved by walking, aggravated by sitting and by lying in bed. Bruised pain in the whole of the back, preceded by sticking in the hips (twentieth day). Bruised pain in the back portions in the evening (during menstruation) Dorsal. Tensive drawing between the scapulae, at 6 p. m. (second day). Violent sticking, as with knives, between the shoulders, waking her from sleep causing shortness of breath, appearing while lying on the back, and relieved by lying on the right side (after twenty six days). Stitches beneath the right scapula, at night, Transient stitches I beneath the left scapula, in the evening (third day). Painful stitches in the region of the lower angle of the left scapula, on deep inspiration. Lumbar. Paralyzed feeling in the small of the back, in the evening (third day). Pain in the small of the back in the morning on waking extending into the left hypochondrium, lasting several hours (twelfth day). She was obliged to stand up (twenty ninth day). Pain in the small of the back, alternating with griping in the abdomen, in the afternoon, and followed in the evening by a hard stool (ninth day). Violent pain in the small of the back at night, waking her, and not allowing her to sleep again (after fifty two days). Violent pain in the small of the back, which did not permit lying on the back woke her at 2 a. m. (after twenty seven days). Drawing pains in the region of the kidneys (after 12 grains). Pinching pressure in the small of the back, the whole day. Violent pressive pain in the lumbar region, worse, during rest, so that she was obliged to walk about in order to obtain relief, the pain was relieved after gentle rubbing, but was so much aggravated when coughing, that she cried out, stitches in the left side of the small of the back, while sitting (second day). Stitches in the region of both kidneys most violent in the right and very acute when taking a deep breath in the evening. Bruised pain in the small of the back, at 3 A. m. She was unable to turn over on account of it (after twenty three days). Pain in the small of the back, as if it had been beaten, in the morning on waking.
