CORYZA.

DRY CORYZA –

Sneezing by day; nose dry and stopped at night (acute).

Nightly stoppage of the nose, with dry coryza; secretion, crusty, fetid; hoarseness, rawness of chest; tickling cough at night.

FLUENT CORYZA –

Child rubs the nose violently and persistently.

With redness of eyes and lachrymation, frequent flushes of heat, and yawning.

Discharge excoriating, acrid; nose swollen, posterior nares dry; burning headache, forcing him to close eyes.

Thick, yellow discharge, copious and fatty; frontal headache, catarrh of posterior nares and frontal sinuses; constipation; yellowish complexion; prostration (second stage).

DISCHARGES –

Fluent, sometimes acrid; nose swollen Fluent, with lachrymation; eyes red.

Thick, yellow, abundant; fact pale, dirty, sickly looking; blue rings around the eyes.

Dry scurfs and crusts; fetid; nose stopped at night with dry catarrh.

APPEARANCE –

Pale, sickly, yellowish.

Dark rings around eyes.

Circumscribed red cheeks.

Fan-like motion of alae nasi.

Upper lip excoriated.

Nose swollen.

Smell very sensitive.

Heat and redness of face; flushes of heat.

WORSE –

At night, dry stoppage of nose worse.

Dryness of posterior nares worse at night: and after sleep.

Afternoon, 4 P.M.

From cold drinks.

SENSATIONS –

Dryness of posterior nares.

Contraction of throat, with difficult swallowing of food and drink; nothing goes down; food and drink return through nose.

As if a ball arose in throat from below; choking prevents swallowing.

Burning and pricking in throat and pharynx.

Pain and constriction in region of submaxillary glands.

Choking, provoking constant swallowing.

COUGH.

DRY COUGH –

Dry, hard cough, day and night, as from fumes of sulphur in trachea, with painfulness of head and pit of stomach; coughs during sleep.

SCANTY COUGH –

As if larynx were tickled with a feather, with scanty, thick sputa.

Chronic, persistent catarrh of respiratory tract.

Almost continual day and night, deep and short; scanty, thick, gray, difficult sputa.

LOOSE, CHRONIC COUGH –

Thick, greenish-yellow, fetid and abundant, but difficult.

Thick, yellow, purulent, profuse, with shortness of breath; tasting salty; fetid, blood-streaked, greenish.

SPUTA –

Very scanty and thick, with dry cough.

Very tenacious and difficult, with loose rattling in lungs.

Rust-colored, tenacious, blood-streaked.

WORSE –

From 4 to 8 P.M.

At night: day and night.

On alternate days.

From exertion; from stooping.

From eating and drinking cold things.

From lying on the side, especially the left.

From wind, cough worse: other symptoms are better frOm open air: cough is worse in a warm room.

Lying on back, breathing worse.

BETTER –

Sitting up, or lying on the back, cough better, breathing worse.

Cough returns as soon as he turns on his left side.

CHEST –

Oppression, with shortness of breath.

Constriction as of tight clothing, with dull pain all over lungs.

Rawness in left chest and under clavicles.

Stitching pains in left chest.

Difficult breathing as if he had inhaled fumes of sulphur.

FEVER –

Slight fever, on pain, but extreme dyspnea from least exercise.

SENSATIONS –

As of fumes of sulphur in trachea, dry cough. As of feather in larynx, with scanty expectoration.

Shock and shattered sensation in head and chest, with violent cough.

Internal rawness; tearing under clavicles.

Hoarseness with constant desire to clear throat.

Flushes of heat, with circumscribed redness of cheeks. Small, weak pulse, worse after eating.

Oppression of chest, with shortness of breath.

Constriction of chest, as from tight clothing (Laches.).

Easily fatigued : limbs heavy : weariness.

SPECIAL DISEASES

Sub-acute bronchitis.

Chronic coughs.

Broncho-pneumonia.

Pneumonia of left side.

Typhoid-pneumonia.

SPECIAL CONCOMITANTS-

Aggravation 4 to 8 P.M.

Easily fatigued: oppression and dyspnea; circumscribed redness of cheeks.

Exhalations of body smell like onions.

Sputa always thick and difficult: scanty or profuse.
