Jan. 7, 1949: Medium height and weight, dark complexion. Never much medicine. Male, married, 48 years.
On tension most of the time; does not know how to relax. Sleep poor.
Deep depression spells; blames himself for anything. During them; gets angry easily, but soon over it lately; used to be angry a long time. Remorse follows and then threat of suicide; this better recently.
Headache severe for many years, various locations. Few night ago severe pain occipital so could not move, better gradually. This 3 times night. Next day soreness there.
Attacks of dyspnoea, seems to be no room in the lungs. Usually at night.

A mother-complex has interfered with his normal development from birth. Brother five years older always catered to and praised; he was always put down, made to feel inferior; all sorts of services demanded of him. Mother did not want him. Two breakdowns undoubtedly due to this inferiority complex plus necessity for working in noise all the time.
Wife has been very wise, has uncovered causes, has shown him he is as good as the next one and better than most; now he is ready to take his place as the head of their home and assert himself to his mother who still comes into the home for visits.
Headache very severe and recurring.

This had gone. Treatment: Aur. 50M.
Jan. 25, 1951: None of the bad headaches and almost no depression. Very little vertigo. Dyspnoea in spells but not so bad; feels as if might be a constriction in throat with pressure there. Few nights later, after being up to bathroom, had a time of being “limp” and had to be roused again. No shaking this time. Does not remember this. would answer wife thought. Said dyspnoea.
