HOMOEOPATHIC THERAPY IN SOME NERVE DISEASES

Spigelia anthelmintica 10x. to 30x.: Burrowing headache, tearing, sharply stitching, lancinating pain especially above left eye or in the eye itself (ciliary neuralgia), worse from light, noise or motion, better from propping up head; comes and goes with the sun. Rheumatism and gout are great etiological factors.

Stannum 10x.: Characteristic is the slowly increasing and falling pain, usually on the right side, worse at noon, and accompanied by intense exhaustion; amelioration when menstruation begins. There are often symptoms from the generative organs (prolapses, leucorrhoea). The face is pale, with rings around the eyes.

Tabacum 6x.: Headache and vertigo with nausea and vomiting, possibly with diarrhoea, are characteristic.

Veratrum album 4x.: Patient looks as if in collapse, cold extremities, cold perspiration on face; syncope with aggravation in morning hours, from rising and bending head forward; better from bending backward.

Viscum album 4x.: Painful throbbing and pressing in head with sensation of tension; vertigo from nervous exhaustion. Hypotonia.

Zincum metallicum 10x. to 30x.: Frontal headache with pressing at root of nose; nausea and vomiting, possibly with disturbed function of eye muscles due to anaemia. Causative also may be suppressed secretions or skin eruptions insufficiently developed.

Aside from the medicamentous treatment the general regimen plays an important role: in the first place attention to stomach an intestines, not only with regard to constipation, but also as to abstinence from spices and protein-rich foods, alcohol, nicotine, coffee and tea. All these patients feel best on lacto- vegetarian diet, and avoidance of all stimulating condiments (also salt, pepper, vinegar, etc.).

Added to these may be physical measures which equalize circulation be derivation, either to the feet or the head, for which purposes we have hydrotherapeutic means. In rheumatic headache we recommend especially the Cornelius Nervepoint massage with its remarkable lasting effect from correct technique and patience on the part of the sufferer. In no case must a careful examination be omitted, but not only must the head be considered, but the entire body in order to prevent mistaking the symptom for the disease.
