A young schoolmaster living at the seaside, consulted me because he had completely broken down, could not do his work, no one could put flesh on him. His nerves and brain had gone to pieces. A fleshless diet worked a miracle on him. In the first week he gained 72 lbs. and noticed with dismay that all his clothes became too small for him. Besides, his brain and nerves and spirits had improved amazingly.

Three of the highest nutritional authorities I know suffer all three from serious digestive troubles. One has had serious gastric and duodenal ulcers, and has undergone a short circuit operation, and the other two are in a singularly deplorable state....

James Ellis Barker 1870 – 1948 was a Jewish German lay homeopath, born in Cologne in Germany. He settled in Britain to become the editor of The Homeopathic World in 1931 (which he later renamed as Heal Thyself) for sixteen years, and he wrote a great deal about homeopathy during this time.
