The reason of this is pain, for one is attacking the disease, so to speak, at the wrong end, and I have little doubt that some of us will live long enough to see a real and permanent preventive method established.
I will simply say here that the disease is purely one of civilization, that it is increasing absolutely and relatively to the population, and that apparently the only treatment which at present holds the field is the operative one. Surely it is worth while, nay, it is imperative, that the causes of this disease should be studied, and that it should thus be prevented or treated quite in an early stage. Dr. W. J.
