OBJECTIVE. Redness of skin, as after strong friction. Skin dried up, and as if glued to the bones. Skin in general rough, like hog skin. Skin easily injured, the slightest wound tends to become a bad sore. Swelling resembling condylomata or wens. ERUPTIONS, DRY. Different forms of cutaneous disease, as acne, eczema, and purpura. Cutaneous eruption, sometimes; when these eruptions make their appearance the patient is disquieted; they are generally of the character of urticaria; if the medicine be continued they assume the character of eczema and prurigo; in some cases, especially when the eruption appears on the face, a congestion of the cellular tissue, beneath the skin, is added to the other symptoms, giving rise to slight excrescences, having the appearance of tubercles; the eruption will disappear in a few days, after discontinuance of the medicine. Different eruptions, and more especially eruptions of a psydracious form, somewhat resembling the pustules of acne, with this difference, that they are not confined to the parts habitually affected with acne; thus they are found not only on the face and shoulders, but on every part of the body without exception; in one case we may have eczema, in the other herpes, while in others it may cause simple erythema; in two patients, at two different periods, there appeared an eruption of papulous erythema on some parts, of erythema nodosum on others, and in a patient affected with cancer of the face, to whom it was given in rather large doses, it on several occasions caused an eruption of impetigo on the hairy scalp, and of a rupia, offering the characters of a cachectic rupia, on the legs and forearms, symptoms which disappeared as soon as the remedy was omitted, and showed themselves again when its use was renewed. Miliary and urticarious or vesicular eruptions, with itching and burning, which allow no rest. Purpura, in a predisposed subject, and of course erythema and other symptoms of iodism. Many small yellow spots appear, now in place, now in another, which exfoliate, like herpes. Blotches on the face and other parts of the body (after a few doses). Red blotches on different parts of the face. I have seen it produce on three several occasions, after a fortnight’s use, a genuine spotted disease on the legs of a gentleman; in the case of a lady I ordered it for removal of very serious tertiary symptoms of syphilis; it caused towards the termination of the cure a petechial eruption on the lower limbs. Erysipelatous swelling and redness of both cheeks, extending towards the temples, with a few spots on the forehead. (2nd day). Several pimples on the chin and nose (after 5 days). Red pimples, miliary eruptions, with great itching of the vulva. A sticking-burning pimple in the skin, below the corner of the mouth. A sensitive pimple on the cheek, surrounded by redness and swelling (after 6 days). A very sensitive pimple on the nostril (after 5 days). Eczema impetigenoides (in one case). A small pimple on the chin, which itches very much, and exudes water. Vesicles and yellow liver-spots on the face. After tearing in right wrist itching on it, not relieved by scratching, followed by the appearance of an itching vesicle (after 12 days). Eruption and herpetic scabs behind the ear. Herpetic eruptions and obstinate ulcers on both lips. Severe corrosive herpes on the prepuce. Erysipelas of the face (after taking it 3 or 4 days); sometime afterwards it was given again with exactly the same result; after an interval of several months, he began to take the medicine a third time; after about a fortnight he was attacked with erysipelas of the face, scalp, neck, etc. rather severely. ERUPTIONS, PUSTULAR. The most frequent eruption is the pustule of acne, which shows itself from the end of the first to the second day; it most frequently occurs on the face; it does not usually last as long as the treatment, that is, it disappears in fifteen or twenty days. A long-continued use of Iodide of potassium will, in some subjects, occasion an eruption, generally of a pustular form (almost always ecthyma). Pustular herpes, often ulcerated, and with small red veins on the face. Phlegmonous swellings, as from bruises. Suppurating ulcers, such as arise from burns and bruises. Inflammatory swellings, which assume a gangrenous character. Small ulcers, with raised borders and grayish bases, on the vulva. Ulcers corroding to the bone, on the head, nose, arms, and legs. Eruption on the face (after some days); subsequently all over the body; maculae first of a dark-red color came out, which gradually got darker, until the spots resembled purpura; the cuticle next became raised over some of the spots, and was filled with a fluid of a purple color, constituting large bullae an inch in diameter; on the cuticle giving way, the true skin was found sphacelated underneath; the ulcers continued over a month. He presented a most grotesque appearance, looking more like a leopard than a man; he was mottled all over with spots; those on his face were purple, whilst those on the lower extremities were of a dark-red color; the spots on the legs came out last; there were two large bullae on the forehead, one on the lip, two under the left clavicle, two on the inside of the right thigh, one on the side of the prepuce; after a few days the prepuce corresponding to the bullae had sphacelated, and the integuments of the penis, as far as the pubis, were involved in mischief; mortification had also seized upon the lip and the other parts specified as having bullae; the eruption disappeared first from the face, and afterwards from the lower extremities; the sphacelated parts were thrown off, including the whole penis, body, and integuments, from the pubis, not leaving a vestige of it behind. The tip of the left thumb is ulcerated and yellow, as if it would break, which, however, it does not to (after 41 days). Ulcerated chilblains. SUBJECTIVE. Some patients have experienced only a feeling of heat and pricking of the skin, attended at times with more or less pruritus. Great itching all over, especially on the face, arms, and thighs. Violent biting on the nape of the neck and on the forehead, which burn after scratching (4th day). Itching on the right nates, disappearing after scratching (after 18 days). Itching on the inner side of the right upper arm; after scratching there remains for several days a dry, red spot, which at first itches (after 15 days). Itching on the right instep, worse after scratching, in the evening (after 4 days). Great itching of the pubis.
