Marum Verum


Dr. S.R. Phatak describes the clinically confirmed symptoms of the homeopathic remedy Marum Verum in his Concise Materia Medica, published in 1977….


Generalities

      NASAL AND RECTAL symptoms are very marked Excitable and oversensitiveness; from abuse of medicines and when remedies fail to act. Delicate and sensitive; old persons and children. Internal tremors; worse excitement. Desire to stretch. Thread worms. Polypi; nasal vaginal, in ear etc. Fibrous tumours.

Worse

      Weather changing; damp; cold. In bed. Touch. Stooping. Sitting. Side lain on. Rubbing gently.

Better

      Open air. Sweat.

Mind

      Desire to sing. Mental excitement and loquacity. Very indolent, does not want to do mental or physical labour.

Head

      Frontal pain worse stooping.

Eyes

      Smarting in canthi. Eyelids red and puffy. Tarsal tumours.

Ears

      Hissing sound when passing hand over ear, when talking or forcibly inspiring through the nose. Itching of. Polypus.

Nose

      Crawling in; must pick it, with lachrymation and sneezing, stoppage of nose worse side lain on, on reading aloud, Chronic catarrh; atrophic; discharge of large, lumpy, irregular clinkers. Loss of smell. Mucous polypi. Solid lumps from posterior nares.

Mouth

      Itching in palate.

Throat

      Mouldy taste in throat when hawking or coughing. Follicular pharyngitis.

Stomach

      Constant hiccough; jerking, in emaciated children after nursing; with stitch from stomach to back. Vomiting of large quantities of dark green masses.

Abdomen

      Itching anus; prevents sleep. Thread worms.

Respiratory

      Dry cough; worse coughing.

Extremities

      Ingrowing toe nails; with ulceration better moving. Burning in the tips of fingers. Staggering, walking, places one foot over the other.

Sleep

      Sleepless after excitement; from itching anus; or skin, which lasts all night.

S.R. Phatak
A pioneer of Homoeopathy in Maharashtra, Dr Shankar Raghunath Phatak was born on 6th September, 1896. He did his MBBS from Grant Medical College, in 1924. Started his practice but somehow not satisfied with Allopathic Treatment.

He was convinced about Homoeopathy while going through Sir William Osler's writings on 'History of Medicine' so switched over to an entirely Homoeopathic Practice in 1932. He also started working on Homoeopathic literature along with his Practice.

He has contributed immensely to homoeopathic literature. He was an ardent follower of Dr Boger. His Repertory is based on Boger's ''A Synoptic key to Materia Medica'.
