4. TRINKS. – Anxiety and sighing (4th d.). Inclination and capacity for work perceptibly diminished (after 3 d.). Vertigo when stooping or looking up (8th d.). Heavy feeling in occiput. Pressure under skill as from rush of blood of head. Itching in canthus of left eye and pain there as from rubbing. Congestion of blood in eye (6th d.). When eating drawing feeling in oesophagus as though it would be torn away (6th d.). Constriction and cutting in oesophagus down to stomach, before and after eating. Dry feeling in throat, in. The feet tend to go to sleep (6th d.). Fetid perspiration of soles. Itching in a dry, painless eczema on right tibia. Heaviness of legs, especially knees. Heaviness and weariness of feet, especially felt when sitting. Heaviness of limbs (8th d.). Feeling of weakness in forearms (5th d.). Easily fatigued by walking (5th d.). 5. NENNING. – Ennui; silent, lazy, disinclined for work. Loss of memory. Cheerfulness, but of short duration. Very busy, absorbed in her work, reflective, p. m. Stupidity and heaviness of head, gradually going off. Vertigo, going off in open air (after 2 1/2 hours). Headache in left parietal region (after 1 hours). Dull headache in forehead and tearing in nape. Transient heaviness in forehead. Heaviness in head; is inclined to fall forwards (after 2 1/2 hours). Pressure from occiput to forehead, with feeling as if eyes would close with weight, going off when standing (after 1 hour). Pressure in forehead, more externally (2nd e.). Twitching and tearing in right temple, then before right ear (after 1 hour). Tearing and shooting in left temple (after 2 hours). Tearing in forehead, with heat in head and redness, p. m. Tearing and contraction in forehead (after 6h.). Shooting in forehead. Shooting, beating and tearing in right parietal region. Shooting here and there in head, especially in right ear. Heat in head and redness of face (after 5 hours). Heat rising from belly into head (after 3 hours). Itching in left upper eyelid (after 1/4 hour). Tearing in eyelids, with drowsiness (after 3/4 hour). Quivering of right upper eyelid (after 1 hours). Twitching tearing in left eyeball, a. m. Violent stitch with burning under left eyeball, 2 p. m. Burning in right eye as if snuff had got into it (after 2 hours). Quivering in both eyes (after 2 1/2 hours). Eyes misty. Tension in right aural region and down cervical muscles (after 2 1/2 hours). Tearing in right aural region. Shooting in lobe of right ear. Scraping in right ear as from an ear of corn (after 1/4 hour). Tearing in ears. Boring and shooting in right ear. Transient dulness of hearing. Stitch in right zygoma (after 6 hours). Tearing in upper and lower jaw and corresponding teeth. Tearing in left lower maxilla up to ear, removed by rubbing, which causes a shock in left occiput. Tearing in right lower jaw near chin, after rubbing it goes into right lower ribs, then it returns to jaw, then stitches below right scapula (after 2 hours). Boring in angles of lower jaw (after 1 1/2 hours). Transient flush of heat, with redness of face and sweat on upper part of body, p. m. Pale gums. Jerking pain in right lower molar, m., aggravated by cold (3rd d.). Tearing in two right lower molars (after 2 1/2 hours). Heat and burning in mouth and tongue (4th m.). Some burning pimples on tip of tongue from 6 to 10 p. m. (Ist d.). Roughness in throat (after 6 hours). Feeling of swelling in throat when swallowing, with choking. Feeling of a foreign body in throat, which makes her sneeze; it seems to go down on swallowing, but comes up again immediately. Feeling of a foreign body in right side of oesophagus, with smell of sulphur. Feeling as if a foreign body in oesophagus moved downwards (after 2 1/2 hours). A small body often rises up in oesophagus, which she must swallow down (after 3/4 hour). Sulphurous and sour taste deep in throat. Hawking of acid phlegm (after 1/2 hours). Abortive eructation and yawning (after 1/2 hours). Eructation of air after breakfast, then burning in stomach (after 1/2 hours). Eructation with taste of food, or bad taste. Hiccup (after 5 hours). Anorexia (2nd d.). Thirst m. and after dinner. Nausea and retching (after 2 hours). and eructation (after 2 1/2 hours). Belching of tasteless water (after 1/4 hour). Empty feeling in stomach (after 1/4 hours). Contractive feeling in stomach (after 6 hours). Transient burning in stomach (after 1/4 hours). Pain from scrob. cordis up to middle of chest (after 2 1/2 hours). Shooting and boring in stomach. Shooting in right and left hypochondria. Tearing in left hypochondrium through to back, where it shoots, p. m. Nipping in upper part of abdomen, and feeling as if something were torn off there and fell down, afterwards rumbling in belly (after 6 hours). Fulness in abdomen. Painful distension below navel, going off after emission of flatus (3rd d.). Feeling of incarcerated flatus in abdomen, p. m. Contraction across middle of abdomen when sitting bent forwards (after 5 hours). Nipping in abdomen about navel, then fruitless call to stool, going off after emission of flatus (Ist d.). Cutting in abdomen (2nd d.). Whilst pressing at stool cutting about navel, which is drawn in, going off after stool (after 5 hours). Pricking about navel and in left side of abdomen. Feeling as if something had fallen down in left side of abdomen, p. m. Feeling as if she were sitting in cold water up to abdomen, soon afterwards heat in abdomen (after 2 1/2 hours). Heat and burning throughout abdomen (after 2 1/4 hours). Burning inwardly about navel (after 1 1/2 hours). Burning in whole belly and twitching about navel, with shooting back and feeling as if a weight lay on it, with pain in scrob. cordis (after 2 hours). Tearing in left lumbar region, p. m. Pain in left lumbar region on bending to left side; stitches there when laughing, and in right lumbar region. A stitch in left iliac region when stooping, in umbilical region when rising up. A movement on left side of belly like a mouse (after 2 1/2 hours). Rumbling in bowels and call to stool, only flatus passed, p. m. Slow movement to and from below navel, like a rough body (after 1 hours). Audible rumbling in bowels, m., on rising, after 1/4 hours a consistent stool, then strong purging (2nd d.). Movement in hypogastrium, with cutting pain (2nd d.). Hot flatus, which burns like fire (2nd d.). Neither stool nor urine passed (Ist d.). Hard, scrappy stool (2nd d.). Hard stool, with straining and feeling as if a prickly body passed, m.; 3 soft stools, p. m. (4th d.). Frequent purging of yellow faeces, with pain (3rd – 6th d.). Urging to stool, with watery faeces (2nd d.). Constant urging to stool without result, p. m. Formication and pricking in rectum (after 2 1/2 hours). Boring in anus while at stool. Urging to urinate, but urine is retained (2nd d.). Frequent micturition, p. m. (Ist d.). 4 a. m., wakes to urinate, urine copious, thereafter pains in belly as from a chill; this goes off after discharge of flatus, then shooting in belly (2nd d.). Burning during and after micturition (2nd d.). Itching in left nostril, tearing in right nasal septum, sneezing. Stopped feeling in nose (3rd d.). Fluent coryza. Roughness in throat and hoarse voice, m. (4th d.). Her breathing is arrested, and there are stitches in sternum on moving right arm to left side, p. m. Pressure on chest. Shooting in left side of chest through to scapula. Shooting under right chest through to scapula. A stitch in middle of sternum (after 6 1/2 hours). Pressure externally on lower part of sternum (after 1 hour). Shooting in mammae. Jerking in cardiac region (after 1/2 hour). Precordial anxiety. Tearing and tension in nape (after 5 hours). Dislocation pain and tearing in right scapula. Shooting in both scapulae. Boring in right scapula. Stitches in spine and sacrum. Shooting in right hip – joint. Shooting pain in right shoulder. Shooting in back of right hand. Tearing in right wrist. Twitching tearing. and stiffness in left thumb. Itching between left thumb and index (after 5 hours). right thumb goes to sleep (after 7 hours). Tearing in several fingers. Twitching in left thigh. Tearing in middle of inner aspect of left thigh (after 3/4 hours). Tearing above left knee when standing. Shooting through right knee. Bruised pain and tearing in legs. Twitching in right tibia (after 2 1/2 hours). Shooting in calves (3rd d.). Tearing from right heel upwards (after 2 1/2 hours). Formication in right big toe (after 2 1/4 hours). Drawing in l. big toe. Tearing in 2 first l. toes (after 2 1/4 h.) Painful drawing inwards of 2 right big toes, then drawing in right hough, then in left hough, where it shoots when standing and sitting, then the toes become numb. Formication and going to sleep in left toes up to instep. Two itching papules on back of index, also on outer side of left wrist, containing clear water (2nd d.). Weariness of limbs. Trembling of thighs and legs. Frequent yawning and drowsiness. Sleeplessness and early waking. Confused and frightful dreams. Coldness in room and in open air. Richard Hughes
Dr. Richard Hughes (1836-1902) was born in London, England. He received the title of M.R.C.S. (Eng.), in 1857 and L.R.C.P. (Edin.) in 1860. The title of M.D. was conferred upon him by the American College a few years later.

Hughes was a great writer and a scholar. He actively cooperated with Dr. T.F. Allen to compile his 'Encyclopedia' and rendered immeasurable aid to Dr. Dudgeon in translating Hahnemann's 'Materia Medica Pura' into English. In 1889 he was appointed an Editor of the 'British Homoeopathic Journal' and continued in that capacity until his demise. In 1876, Dr. Hughes was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Organization of the International Congress of Homoeopathy Physicians in Philadelphia. He also presided over the International Congress in London.
