HINDRANCES TO THE HOMOEOPATHIC PRESCRIPTION

I am not in favor of innoculating that into the skin anyway, but at least we have counteracted it, and they do not get a reaction. (Applause).

DR. HARVEY FARRINGTON [Chicago, Ill.]: Madam Chairman, this is an interesting and very important subject, and Dr. Grimmer has given an excellent paper. He usually does.

He could not, of course, cover the whole ground, and he didn’t intend to, I imagine. He did mention certain important ones which are often overlooked. He did not speak of the use of fluorine in the fluoridization of water. The position of health authorities and of a large majority of physicians is asinine, really, because there is so much evidence that fluorine in water does affect the teeth, and fluorine in water where there are artesian wells that contain this drug cause that peculiar spotting of the teeth, small black marks. In time, the teeth decay instead of being preserved. Naturally, they would when once the dentine is penetrated.

Hahnemann was very careful about this and, perhaps, to our notion, went as far as could be possible because if you read the list of foods, there is scarcely anything nourishing to eat or anything worthwhile drinking, even smoking, and Hahnemann smoked his pipe. I read a little sketch about a visit with Hahnemann, and the lady who wrote it tells of that.

Now one of the prevailing obstruction to the reaction of medicine is vaccination, as well as the other sera and supposed antidotes, antitoxin, for instance, and other things are used.

Why is it that these things interfere? What do they do to the system? Many of you have no doubt had patients say, “I took a dose of aspirin for my headache yesterday because I couldn’t stand the pain, but I stopped taking the medicine while I was taking the aspirin,” or mentioning some other drug. “I stopped taking your medicine”.

I have to explain this: “What you take is not necessarily a chemical antidote to the medicine I am giving you. I am prescribing on the symptoms that will deal with the state of your system. They, to me, are a perfect picture of what is wrong and

give me the indications for the proper remedy to cure it. When you take these drugs, you change that. You induce in the system a drug disease, so to speak. In other words, the system is in a different condition, a different setup, and the symptoms themselves are different. So, my remedy does not fit. I must give you an antidote”.

Just one instance regarding vaccination. We don’t believe in prescribing empirically and yet sometimes we have to, or sometimes we are fortunate enough to get a result when we do.

I had a little girl brought to me late in December. She was about eight years old and had a terrific cough. The symptoms of the cough would suggest Drosera, and had been present ever since the thirtieth of November, after she was vaccinated. Should I give the remedy for the cough or the vaccination? I chose the latter. I gave a high potency of Thuja and the cough immediately disappeared, although Thuja is not often given for cough. I confess I do now know whether there is a special indication for cough in that remedy. (Applause).

DR. GRIMMER [Closing]: I thank the discussants for their comments and helpful suggestions, especially Dr. Chepko and Dr. Eisfelder.

I know that some of my friends think I am fanatical on this aluminium but I am here to tell you it is a real menace and it does interfere tremendously with …..our work. Unless we do heed it, we don’t get the best results with our work, however carefully we may plan it. That it why I am repeating so much.

It is probably one of the reasons why we find some of the Cadmium preparations coming in on so many cancers. Cadmium is the head remedy in the alleviation and cure, even, in many cases of cancer. I have cured with Cadmium, and I think it is because of the deleterious effects of the aluminium over the years.

Alumina is very slow in its pace of action. It doesnt manifest symptoms that will draw your attention to it, in many cases, cases that are not violently susceptible to it, but go along for a long time, with gradual slowing down of intestinal reactions and a very insignificant but, nevertheless, a steady change in the elements of the blood.

That is what Thuja does. It is very slow in its pace of action but it gets there. It is like the bedbug-it gets there in time. [Laughter] That is one of the reasons that I bring this to you.

Now the comments of Dr. Eisfelder on these sweat suppressants. We all know we have in our Materia Medica the deleterious effects of foot sweat, especially where silica and Baryta carb. come in so forcibly as antidotes.

I have seen a case of tuberculosis absolutely produced, that is it was activated, under the influence of a suppressed foot sweat. The man was almost at the terminal stage of existence, when I, as only a student, got that history and gave him Silica and restored the sweat and he got rid of his tuberculosis and became a hardy man, a well man, and went back to his work. The man remained well for years.

So, it is those things we must heed. These things that are blared out so persistently over the radio “Poof and you’re dry and safe,” and all that, we want to get that to our patients, that that is doing them damage;they are throwing back into the part matter that Nature wants to get rid of. When you stop those avenues of elimination, you are doing that patient untold harm in general, as well as impeding the action of your remedies.

Thank you all. (Applause).

A. H. Grimmer
Arthur Hill Grimmer 1874-1967 graduated from the Hering Medical College (in 1906) as a pupil of James Tyler Kent and he later became his secretary, working closely with him on his repertory. He practiced in Chicago for 50 years before moving to Florida. He was also President of the American Institute for Homoeopathy.
In his book The Collected Works of Arthur Hill Grimmer, Grimmer spoke out against the fluoridation of water and vaccinations. Grimmer wrote prodigeously, Gnaphalium, Homeopathic Prophylaxis and Homeopathic Medicine and Cancer: The Philosophy and Clinical Experiences of Dr. A.H. Grimmer, M.D.
