SOME LEDUM CASES. How often we use a remedy successfully for a few conditions in a routine manner, but with no real knowledge of it! I had used Ledum in this way for many years, for bites and stings and punctured wounds and black eyes, but with no complete picture of the remedy and its possible action in more chronic conditions.
DEPARTMENT OF PRACTICAL CASE MANAGEMENT. Limes have a flavor all their own and make a nice change from lemons. Every good thing that may be said about lemons applies also to limes. Either lemon or lime juice should be used in place of vinegar. The ordinary commercial vinegar is especially detrimental. A salad dressing made of pure olive oil and fresh lemon or lime juice is healthful as well as agreeable in taste.
QUESTION AND ANSWER DEPARTMENT. Low potencies have acted favorably in the single dose and conversely high potencies have undoubtedly acted curatively when repeated. It is best to accept in principle the word of the masters of the homoeopathic art, but be ready to do something on ones own judgment and initiative then circumstances require.
VERIFICATIONS AND CLINICAL SYMPTOMS OF THE NOSODES. Tuberculinum was repeated without benefit. Sulphur cleared the slate of all symptoms for six months, at the end of which time the tantrums, the screams and all the rest developed in full force. Tuberculinum was again given. From that time the patient made rapid strides towards health and fever five years has remained well.
WHY HOMOEOPATHY?. The administration of any drug in sufficient quantities to the healthy human organism will produce a particular set of symptoms peculiar to that drug. When that particular set set of symptoms shows itself in disease, sufficiently small quantities of the same drug will alleviate or cure the disease. This seems to be a natural law which is capable of repeated demonstration.
INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION IN ELDERLY PEOPLE. Obstruction occurs very suddenly as a rule, and the first time will usually be relieved by different and frequent enemeta. It may be that this attack is the first time the patient has found it necessary to call in his physician, and it is the duty of the physician to insist upon further and full investigation following the relief of the obstruction, for this is the time when his life may be saved or prolonged for some years if the diagnosis is established and he is operated upon at once.
IODINE. In the past few years we have all seen the growth of the health food movement. This has undoubtedly been a result of the failure of orthodox medicine to take more interest in diet and partly due to the disappointing results particularly in chronic disease. Recently I saw a lady who was a health food enthusiast who was quite concerned over the sudden appearance of a goiter and was at a loss how to explain it.
SULFANILAMIDE–A FRAGMENTARY PROVING. Ever since para-amino benzene sulfonamide, or Sulfanilamide, came into general use as a therapeutic agent I have had a desire to make a proving of this substance. When Dr. Roberts asked me last fall to prepare a paper for the Bureau of Materia Medica, I determined to begin this project and to report my findings to this Bureau.
EDITORIAL. Homoeopathy not only heals mans physical body, it strengthens his moral fibre, and brightens his mental processes; it touches that which is deepest and best in his nature, the divine fountain of love. Love and gratitude for the Giver of all Good, love, understanding and charity for his fellows regardless of race, color or creed.
HOMOEOPATHY IN THE TREATMENT OF ACUTE RHEUMATIC FEVER. Nearly all these acute rheumatic fever cases sweat so profusely that this symptom does not constitute a strange, rare and peculiar one which may guide to the selection of the remedy. When this sweating is very marked, and when the tongue is swollen and indented showing teeth marks, we must study and frequently prescribe Mercurius.
INFLUENZA. Lachesis, too, has hypersensitivity to touch. He cannot tolerate the contact with clothes. Its pathogenesis is chiefly left-sided. All the symptoms are < after sleep, or the aggravation wakes him from a state of sleep. The pains in the darkly injected throat are < by hot drinks and on awakening, and the swallowing of liquids is more painful than solids.
