WHAT IS WRONG WITH HOMOEOPATHY

Along the line of pathological prescribing of homoeopathic remedies, work has been done with Thiosinamine 2x. by mouth for the absorption of adhesions or scar formations. At the present

time Paradrene 6x. is being used experimentally in the treatment of hypertension.

The Hering test as evolved at Hahnemann presents a similar difficulty for interpretation and practical use, namely the difficulty for interpretation and practical use, namely the difficulty of obtaining technicians with sufficient skill and reliability to interpret the comparisons.

The list of objections, as I received them, are pretty well exhausted. The one that is of the most interest to me is that which state that homoeopathic therapeutics should be taught only to post-graduate students and only after a period of years of general practice. I grant you that the best homoeopaths are those who have a good knowledge of diagnosis, pathology and the limitations of physiological medication which comes from a standard, first class medical college education and is very markedly enhanced by experience. In the interest of the preservation of homoeopathy it is mandatory that undergraduate students be taught homoeopathy.

I have been teaching at Hahnemann since 1928. It has been my privilege to hear many problems that arise in the minds of hundreds of students with whom I have had contact within these years. It would take hours to present these problems to you. Some wise, some otherwise, but all show the one big fault of misunderstanding of the philosophy of homoeopathy, a failure to understand the philosophy of practice of homoeopathy as was laid down by Samuel Hahnemann. Unfortunately this applies to many graduates of Hahnemann, perhaps more than to the students themselves.

Dr. H.A. Roberts of your Society has made the most helpful contributions to modern homoeopathy that I know of in his book entitled Principles and Art of Cure by Homoeopathy. It is a product of a true Hahnemannian. It is the work of a modern master of the art and one that should be read by every homoeopathic physician and student of any system of medical treatment.

The philosophy of homoeopathy has been clarified and modernized so that it can be understood by anyone. The work of modernizing the materia medica is being carried on by Dr. Boericke and a number of others. This stupendous work should be completed. It is a piece of work that every homoeopath should contribute to. Whether you are doing research work, teaching or engaged in the clinical practice of medicine your help is needed.

Boenninghausen’s Therapeutic Pocket Book needs to be enlarged to include remedies that have been introduced since its publication. There is a need for modernization of its terminology. Boenninghausen’s repertory still remains the most logical and certain of all the repertories.

We cannot visualize what further great strides will be made in homoeopathy when coupled with out already achieved clarified and modern presentation of the philosophy, a modern materia medica, and an up to the minute repertory patterned on the basis of Boenninghausen’s work. PHILADELPHIA, PA.
