Intense evacuations, rice-water-like, slightly yellow, producing burning and soreness in anus. Scanty and scalding urine, but clear. The skin cold and clammy. Much night-sweat. Intense dyspnoea, must sit up, cannot lie down in bed. Respiration rapid and short. Burning in the chest. Oedematous swelling of the legs. These symptoms are confirmed in practice by Dr. Ad. Lippe, who also has added these remarks: “Mercurius sulphuric. is as important in hydrothorax as Arsenicum. Has cured several cases. Complete recoveries after a very abundant watery diarrhoea with great relief for the patient. Useful when hydrothorax occurs from heart or liver disease.
Dr. Oscar Hansen, M.D., from Denmark, was a corresponding member of the British Homeopathic Society and the American Institute of Homeopathy. His book 'Textbook of Materia Medica and Therapeutics of Rare Homeopathic Remedies' was published in 1899.
