Aconite [Acon]

      Sudden onset of fever, with chilliness, throbbing pulses, and great restlessness-from anxiety.

A remedy of cold, dry weather, bitter winds (opp. to Gels).

Gelsemium [Gels]

      Heaviness and tiredness of body and limbs.

Head heavy: eyelids heavy: limbs heavy.

Colds and fevers of mild winters (opp to Acon)

Chills in back. :Chills and heats chase one another.”

Bursting headache, from neck, over head to eyes, and forehead; relieved by copious urination.

No thirst.

Eupatorium [Eup-per]

      Intense aching limbs and back, as if Bones were perf broken.

Dare not move for pain (opp. of Pyrogen).

Aching in all bones with soreness of flesh.

Bones feel broken: dislocated: as if would break.

Bursting headache: dare not more for pain.

Shivering: chills in back ( Gelsemium, Pyrog.)

Chill begins 7 to 9 a.m.

Eyeballs sore,. ( Bryonia, Gels)

There may be vomiting of bile.

Like the “break-bone fever” (Dengue).

Pyrogen [Pyrog]

      For the fever of violent pulsations and intense restlessness.

Pulse very rapid: ratio between pulse and temperature disturbed. High temperature with slow pulse, or the reverse.

Chilliness no fire can warm. ( Nux. Gelsemium)

Creeping chills in back, with thumping heart.

Bursting headache, with intense restlessness.

Hard bed sensation: feels beaten, bruised ( Arn)

Better beginning to move (opp. to Rhus), has to keep on moving, rocking, wriggling, for momentary relief.

Copious urination of clear water, with fever.

One very bad ‘flu year, all the cases one came across cleared up in twenty-four to forty-eight hours with Pyrogen 6 six-hourly. The symptoms, besides the pumping heart and the fever, were agonizing pain in lumbar and upper thigh muscles that made it impossible to keep still one moment.

Baptisia [Bapt]

      Rapid onset Sinks rapidly into a stupid typhoid state.

Dull red face: drugged, besotted appearance.

High temperature: red: dusky:comatose.

Drops asleep while insuring.

“Gastric ‘flu” sudden attacks of violent diarrhoea and vomiting. Great prostration. (In such cases Baptisia will ensure as sudden a recovery._)

‘Flu-pneumonias with this besotted appearance.

In the worst cases, mouth and throat and foul, and discharges very offensive. ( Mercurius)

(Curious symptoms) dissociation of parts: “scattered and can’t get himself together” ( Petrol., Pyrogen).

Bryonia [Bry]

      White tongue: thirst for much cold fluid. ( Phos)

From every movement, every noise, attacked with dry heat (rev. of Nux vomica, Gelsemium, etc.)

Wants two lie quite still, and be let alone.

Especially with pleurisy, or pleuro-pneumonia.

Headaches and pain all better for pressure, and worse for movement. ( Eup. per.)_

The anxiety, dreams and delirium of Bryonia are of business; in delirium he “wants to go home,”

Pains in head from coughing. Irritable.

Rhus tox [Rhus-t]

      Stiff, lame and bruised on first moving opp of pyrogen), passes off with motion, till he becomes weak and must rest: then restlessness and uneasiness drive him to move again.

The worst sufferings when a t rest and keep without motion (opp. of Bry)

Illness from cold, damp weather: from cold damp when perspiring. ( Dulc)

Anxiety, fear: worse at night. ( Aconite)

Restlessness: intense fever: thirst; great prostration.

Weeps without knowing why. ( Puls)

Typhoid forms of fever. ( Baptisia)

Severe aching in bones. ( Eup. per)

A mental symptom of Rhus is fear of poison.

Mercurius sol. [Merc]

      Profuse, very offensive sweat.

Very foul mouth. ( Baptisia)

Salivation. Offensive.

Worse from sweating; or no relief from sweating.

Colds extend to chest.

Hahnemann discusses the effect of Camphor in the influenza epidemics “endemic in Siberia”, which come among us occasionally certainly-but an invaluable palliative, seeing that the disease is one of short duration.”

“On the other hand, Nux vomica, in a single dose, and that the smallest possible, will often remove the disease homoeopathically in a few hours.”

Nux vomica [Nux-v]

      “After drinking, immediately shivering and chilliness

Chilliness on the slightest movement. On the slightest exposure to the open air shivering and chilliness for an hour;l dreads to go into open air

By the slightest draught of air he gets chilled.

He cannot get warm,.

Great coldness not removed by heat of stove, or by bed coverings.

Attack, as of fever; shivering and drawing in the limb’s”

No wonder that Hahnemann says, “Serious ailments from catching cold are often removed by it.”.

She qualified in medicine in 1903 at the age of 44 and served on the staff of the London Homeopathic Hospital until her death forty years later.
