Most scrupulous cleanliness of eyes and of body, and fresh air is needed, or else your remedies will fail.

Aconite [Acon]

First stage, or where there are great redness, chemosis and profuse purulent discharge, with swelling and redness of the lids and MUCH BURNING HEAT IN THE EYE.

Apis [Apis]

OEdema of lids and adjacent cellular tissue; discharge not profuse; stinging and shooting pains, hot lachrymation and photophobia.

Argentum-nit [Arg-n]

Very few subjective symptoms. Profuse purulent discharge, pus thick, yellowish and bland, the lids swollen from the collection of pus; commencing haziness of cornea with a tendency to slough; (>) from cool air.

Arsenicum [Ars]

Burning pains, especially at night; alternate shifting from one eye to the other.

Calcarea-carb [Calc]

Excessive secretion of mucus in the eyes, yellowish-white, oedema of lids and ulceration of cornea; leucophlegmasia.

Calcarea-hypophos [Calc-hp]

Purulent conjunctivitis in babes of little vitality.

Chamomilla [Cham]

As intercurrent for the crossness; blood may ooze out, drop by drop, from between the swollen lids, at any attempt to open eyes; (>) by cold, damp change in weather.

Dulcamara [Dulc]

Ophthalmia accompanied by constipation and chemosis of conjunctiva.

Euphrasia [Euphr]

Great continuous acrid lachrymation, making the lids and cheeks sore and excoriated; vision relieved by winking, which washes down the obstructing secretion.

Hepar [Hep]

 

Cornea implicated, lids swollen, spasmodically closed, bleeding easily upon any attempt to open them and very sensitive to touch; little pimples surround the inflamed eyes; great chemosis and photophobia; profuse discharge; throbbing, aching pains, (>) by warmth, (<) from any draught of air.

Mercurius-sol [Merc]

Discharges of eyes thin, excoriating, probably from a syphilitic leucorrhoea, threatening to ulcerate and perforate cornea.

Mercurius-cor [Merc-c]

Discharges of eyes thin, excoriating, probably from a syphilitic leucorrhoea, threatening to ulcerate and perforate cornea.

Nitric-acid [Nit-ac]

Gonorrhoeal ophthalmia; lids swollen, hard and painful, great photophobia, copious discharge of yellow pus, corroding and inflaming cheeks.

Phosphorus [Phos]

Tuberculosis in the mother; suppuration of mucous membranes of eyes.

Pulsatilla [Puls]

Discharge profuse, bland, thick, yellow or yellowish-green, (<) in warm room and evenings, (>) in fresh air;l intercurrent drug to Argentum nit.

Rhus-tox [Rhus-t]

Exposure to wet; lids red, oedematous and spasmodically closed with a copious, yellow, purulent discharge, or discharge may be less and a profuse gush of tears may take place. Cachectic restless children.

Sulphur [Sulph]

Sharp sticking pans, as if pins were sticking in eyes; canthi appear raw; pimples more or less over the body. Psora and scrofulosis.

Syphilinum [Syph]

Upper lids swollen, during sleep lids adhere; ptosis, eyes look sleepy from lowering of upper lid; pain (<) at night, (>) cold water.

Thuja [Thuj]

Hard inflammation of the eyelids, which seem indurated.

Samuel Lilienthal
Dr. Samuel Lilienthal (1815-1891) was from Germany, and became a pioneer homeopath in America. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Munich in 1838. After he moved to the United States, he was hired as Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York College for Women, and also as Professor of Mental and Nervous Diseases at the New York Homeopathic College.
Dr. Samuel Lilienthal was the author of many great books including “Homeopathic Therapeutics”. For many years, with the support of Dr. Constantine Hering, he was the editor of the North American Journal of Homeopathy. Dr. Lilienthal passed away on February 2nd 1891 in San Francisco.
