LONG FASTS FOR HEALTH

Somewhere it is written, “To become wise to God, become a fool to man.” I did more. I became a lunatic to my fellows and, as I learned afterwards, had my terribly upset better half signed a certain piece of paper (strange how sciences and governments idolize documents and blue books), I should have been taken away to end my days, over-fed or drugged in an asylum.

I was 9 stone 8 pounds when I commenced to fast “for death or glory” I had been over 13 stone four months previously, but all I had lost in the cat and mouse act was weight. My physical and mental trouble had increased. I was 7 stone 8 pounds on June 6th, 1917, the day I was examined and rejected for military service, and was given a few weeks to live, for what doctors do not know is that many symptoms of disease increase in a fasting cure, and I was on the nineteenth day of my fast, when the doctors had me before their eyes.

I finished the penance at 6 stone re-born, free of disease, a foundation of physical skin and bone upon which to test the virtues of new ways of living, and in the endeavour to find a diet in accordance with natural law. I am now 10 stone 10 and in perfect health.
