Plectranthus



Violent cramps in both calves woke me about midnight; the muscles became hard and tense; the cramp was not relieved by rubbing or any change of position, on the contrary, aggravated, and it only disappeared after lying straight upon the back, with the feet stretched out, and the toes turned outward (third night). Cramp in the left calf waking from sleep, at 6.30 A.M., disappearing immediately on rising from bed (fourth day). Cramp like drawing pain, extending up from the calf, especially on sitting down (fifth day). Sense of weariness in the calves, on stretching out the feet, as though I had walked a long distance the evening previous (seventh day). Burning pain in the periosteum of the left tibia. Feeling of numbness in the leg. Transient tearing about the malleoli, in the evening (fifth day). Wakened at night by a sudden start caused by a violent sticking in the malleoli of the ankles (first night). Foot and Toes. Great weakness of the feet; was scarcely able to raise them (fifth night). Cramp in the right foot, when it was first put out of bed in the morning, disappearing immediately on drawing up the foot (third day).

Transient drawing in the feet, with desire to stretch them out, in the evening (fifth day). Transient drawing pains in the right foot. Falling asleep of the right foot, followed by a prickling sensation. Violent burning in the sole of the left foot, in the evening. Transient, sharp, sticking pain in the extensor tendons of the left great toe, at 10 P.M. (third day). Sticking pains in the right little toe. Acute stitch in the left great toe, in the evening (seventh day). The toes of both feet were painful, as if they had been bruised (sixth day).

Generalities.

Lassitude and heaviness, especially of the upper extremities, after dinner (first day). Weariness (third day). General weakness, with inability to do any work (eighth day). Great weakness and prostration (first night). Great weakness (fifth day); (third day). Weakness (first day). Great exhaustion and disinclination to work (seventh day). General discomfort (fourth day). Sensation of general discomfort, on walking, in the morning. General bruised sensation (sixth day). Transient stitches in various parts of the body (after 50 drops).

Frequently recurring stitches in various parts of the body, sometimes in the joints (seventh to ninth day). Sensation as though air were piercing the marrow of the bones.

Skin

Transient prickling in the palm of the left hand (fifth day).

Crawling on the left little finger, at first on all the phalanges, but after lasting a few minutes it becomes confined to inner surface of the third phalanx, and continued, in spite of continued rubbing and pressure, for an hour, when it suddenly disappeared, in the afternoon (third day). Formication on the ball of the thumb, in the evening (fifth day).

Sleep

Inclination to sleep, so that I was obliged to undertake one thing after another in order to keep awake, which was especially noticeable, since I went to bed earlier than usual the previous evening, and felt quite refreshed in the morning on rising; in the evening, I was wide wake, and with great vigor and clearness (seventh day). Woke about midnight, and remained awake for six hours; woke, in the morning, free from all symptoms and quite well (sixth day). Frequent waking from sleep (second day). Sleep, at night, much disturbed (third night). Sleep restless (third night). Unable to fall asleep for a long time on account of a variety of thoughts; sleep, through the whole night, was restless and interrupted, with much talking and groaning (sixth day).

Great sleeplessness (fifth day). Complete loss of sleep (second night). Troubled by confused unremembered dreams, before midnight (third day).

Fever.

Chilliness. Sudden violent shaking chill, with chattering of the teeth, waking from sleep, and lasting twenty minutes, followed by burning dry heat over the whole body, at midnight (first night).

Constant chilliness through the whole abdomen, with warm face and cold hands; this sensation of chilliness was aggravated by the warmth of the stove, but entirely disappeared on moving about in the open air, in the evening (ninth day). Frequent chilliness, in the afternoon (fifth day). Became very cool; was obliged to go to bed, where I fell asleep, in the evening (fifth day). Coldness on waking, in the morning, continuing even after breakfast.

Inability to get warm, in bed, preventing sleep (third night).

Inability to get warm, in spite of active exercise, in the open air, or even while sitting in a warm room; there was an uncomfortable feeling of chilliness in the abdomen; felt best when sitting perfectly quiet (fifth day). Coldness over the back, and heat of the hands; could not get warm in spite of being in a heated room (second day). Heat and Sweat. Sudden heat of the head, followed by profuse perspiration on the scalp, lasting only eight minutes; after the perspiration dried up, the forehead was cold to touch, at 9 A.M. (third day). Some fever, in the evening.

(A catarrhal fever developed, that lasted two days). Sour perspiration, at night (fifth day). Profuse perspiration on the scalp, with coldness of the forehead (second and third nights).

Perspiration on the right foot and both hands, though on no other part of the body, in the afternoon (fourth day). Perspiration on the right foot, so that the stocking was completely soaked; the left foot remained quite dry. (* I was not accustomed to suffer from perspiration of the feet, even in midsummer, except on walking for several hours, which however, was not the case at this time. *).

(Morning), On waking, indolent; dulness of the head; 6 A.M., on rising, pressive pain in forehead; 6.30 A.M., drawing pain in right frontal eminence; dryness of the nose; sticking in right upper teeth; scraped sensation in throat; 6 A.M. to 4 P.M.

burning in throat; 5 A.M., cutting pains in epigastrium; 4.45 A.M., rumbling and griping in transverse colon, followed by watery stool; in a warm, room, feeling of coldness through abdomen; desire for stool; secretion of urine; on attempting to rise, pain in both shoulders; lameness in the right shoulder; on moving arm, pain in right shoulder; stitch along inner side of right forearm; feeling of weakness in lower extremities; drawing in the left knee; 6.30 A.M., wakened from sleep by cramp in left calf; on waking, sensation of general discomfort; coldness; 9 A.M., heat of head and perspiration on scalp.

(Forenoon), Pain in forehead; stitches through ear; while walking, griping about umbilicus, with rumbling, etc.; 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., pain in cervical muscles, trembling of the hands; burning in right hip-joint.

(Noon), Great desire for stool, with pressure in rectum and griping in abdomen.

(Afternoon), 5 P.M., pain in temples; on entering house, sticking in right ear; discharge of nasal mucus; dryness of the lips and palate; in pectoralis major muscles; while sitting, sticking in all the joints; pain on inner side of forearm; 5 P.M., while walking, burning in outer condyle of left wrist; weakness of fingers of right hand; 6 P.M., while sitting, burning in the right knee;crawling in the left little finger; chilliness; perspiration of right foot and both hands.

(Towards evening), Headache.

(Evening), Pressure in right frontal eminence; pain in right side of forehead; pain n upper incisors; pain in sound teeth of right lower jaw; sensation at root of tongue, first cold, then burning; dryness in throat; after going to bed, crawling about umbilicus; rumbling in abdomen; paralytic drawing, alternating in right forearm and leg and left knee; 10 P.M., on undressing, feeling of stiffness and rigidity in right shoulder; pain in upper arm; sticking and drawing in the knees and right shoulder; tearing in malleoli; drawing in the feet, with desire to stretch them out; burning in malleoli; drawing in the feet, with desire to stretch them out; burning in sole of left foot; stitch in left great toe; formication on ball of right thumb; very cool; fever.

(Night), Dryness of the lips and palate; vomiting; secretion of urine; pain in right side of chest; sticking n malleoli of ankle; disturbed sleep; sour perspiration.

(Before midnight), Confused dreams.

(About midnight), Awakened by cramp in muscles of calves.

(Midnight), Shaking chill.

(Abducting thigh), Pain in adductors.

(Chewing), Pain in temples.

(After dinner), Lassitude and heaviness; one half hour, griping about umbilicus.

(When drinking), Tension in pharynx, with tickling in ears.

(While outdoors), In the evening, pain in occiput.

(When eating), At noon, sensation as though a morsel were sticking in throat.

(After eating), Pressure in stomach; pain in umbilical region.

(All food and drink), Burning through the mouth.

(On inspiration), Pain in right side of chest, between fourth and sixth ribs.

(Lying on back), Pain in occiput.

(During and after micturition), Burning in urethra.

(Motion), Sensation of swashing, with throbbing and beating, in blood vessels of head; pain in shoulders.
