Abdomen
Tensive pressure in the right hypochondrium, disappearing after the emission of flatus. Sensation of weight and tension in the region of the umbilical, with considerable pain, which resembled the commencement of colica ileus, or common colic (1st night), relieved by opium; returning for 3 or 4 days. Frequent moving about in the abdomen, with inclination to diarrhoea. Flatulence (2nd day); lasting (4th day); (within an hour). Much flatulence during the day. Much flatulence for several days. Troublesome degree of flatulence, all in the afternoon. Inability to sleep on account of flatulence and epigastric distress (1st night), returning for 3 or 4 days; relieved by opium each day. Pain in the abdomen. (Pain in the abdomen and diarrhoea), (after 232 grains in seven days, in a syphilitic). Pain in the bowels became very severe (4th day). Griping in the abdomen. Violent colic (first dose). Pain in the pelvic region recurs after repeated doses and continues with diarrhoea for 10 days.
Rectum
A troublesome degree of proctica marisca took place immediately, and was not subdued for 10 days. Persistent pain in the rectum. Urging to stool. Constant desire for stool, with normal evacuation.
Stool
DIARRHOEA. Violent diarrhoea, always liquid, at last after 6 days consisting only of mucus, continuing till the ninth day. (painful diarrhoea). Copious alvine evacuation, which resembled the operation of a full dose of refrigerant purging salt (after 3 hours).. Faeces soft without pain during the evacuation. Stool somewhat thinner than usual. Liquid stool the next morning. Liquid stool with pain in the pelvic region for 10 days. Thin liquid stool. Faeces lighter colored than natural for 10 days. Faeces often tinged with green. Stool very dry, at last mixed with mucus and blood. Stool harder than usual. Stool hard and dry. Stool very indolent, delayed; only occurring at 11.30 p. m. CONSTIPATION. Torpor of the intestines, induced by costiveness, which was immediately attended with a moderate degree of proctica marisca, continuing third day. The usual evening stool is omitted.
Urinary organs
Itching in the urethra. MICTURITION. Unusual desire to urinate. Frequent urging to urinate. Frequent micturition (after 20 grammes daily). Frequent micturition and a discharge of nearly double the quantity of urine, with considerable of that sort of irritation about the bladder and urethra which the experimenter remembers having formerly experienced not only from Nit. of Potassa, but from Carb. of Potassa (during urinating). Inability to empty the bladder. URINE. (It acts as a diuretic, especially in dropsy). Obvious increase of urine in the evening and night. Urinary secretion nearly doubled at night (first night). Haematuria. (The urine which was previously turbid became clear; it had become turbid after doses of 1 grain); this followed a subsequent 5-grain dose. Urine very turbid. Urine strongly acid and deposits urates abundantly. Traces of it in the urine (after 15 minutes)..
Respiratory organs
Irritation to cough in the larynx. Hoarseness. Cough. Violent cough with catarrh.
Chest
Rush of blood to the chest. Constriction in the chest as from sulphur fumes ( in a girl suffering from pain in the face), repeated 3 times (after.25 grain of 5th trit).. Tightness of the chest. Painful pressure in the left costal region, superiorly. Oppression of the chest with violent beating of the heart. Oppression of the chest, with a sensation as if the lungs were constricted with a fine thread; this continued till the next morning when a new dose was taken; in the afternoon pain in the chest returned with renewed violence, and in the evening without further cause had become exceeding annoying; this continued 3 days, but entirely disappeared on the 4th day, so that a new dose was taken, which also caused oppression of the chest, lasting 2 days. Detected in the milk of 2 nurses who were taking it as a medicine.
Back and neck
Slight sense of pain and weight in the lumbar region (after 20 grammes daily).
Superior Extremities
Drawing in the forearms. Drawing and tearing in both wrists. Slight tearing in the right wrist and along the ulna. Greatly inflamed hand nails, quite unusual. Cramp in the index finger of the right hand.
Inferior Extremities
Drawing in the thigh. Violently sticking pains in the right knee joint. Cramp in the lower leg.
Sleep
SLEEPLESSNESS. Uneasy sleep. Uneasy sleep, wakes towards morning, quite contrary to habit, from an anxious dream, lying on the back, with loud snoring and great difficulty of breathing. Sleep restless, frequently interrupted by heavy dreams. Sleep restless, full of vexing dreams, very unusual. DREAMS. Many dreams of the occurrences of the day previous. Voluptuous dreams with profuse emissions. Quiet dreams of prophecies of death. Quiet dreams of death from nervous fever.
Fever
CHILLINESS. Chilliness. Chilliness over the whole body in the evening. Chilliness in the open air, very unusual, lasting 3 days. Chilliness, with stiffness of the hand. Continued chilliness. Great chilliness, in afternoon. Remarkable chilliness for several days. Great chilliness, even to shivering. Shivering sensation immediately. Shivering over the whole body. Coldness in the precordial region. Remarkable coldness in the right arm. Transient internal coldness in the right forearm. Cold feet, with palpitation of the heart. Cold extremities. Cold shivers over the back and neck, with warm feet. HEAT. Intolerable in the bed. Febrile condition, with violently throbbing pulse and heart. Flushes of heat in the face. SWEAT. Detected in the perspiration.
Skin
OBJECTIVE. Congestion of the surface. ERUPTIONS, DRY. Numerous small red papules. Pimples on the forehead. Pimples on the lower lip, with great rush of blood to the eyes. Pimples between the lip and chin. Pimples on the thigh and on the right corner of the mouth. A pimple with unusual burning on the left cheek. Itching in the skin at night; on the next morning there appeared small red pimples on the legs and shoulders, not on the joints; they dry up after 49-hours and are followed by the appearance of some pimples on the face. Rash, with some painful pimples on the left shoulder, for 10 days. ERUPTIONS, MOIST. Itching vesicles on the back of the right hand. Pimples itching very much, with small vesicles on the back of the left hand, disappearing in the course of the day, but returning the following morning. ERUPTIONS, PUSTULAR. Several pustules filled with matter, surrounded by a red areola, not itching very much. SUBJECTIVE. Itching over the whole body (first day); on the next day more in the face. Itching over the whole body in the evening in bed. Much itching on the head and other portions of the body. Violent itching over the whole body.
Aggravation
Aggravation, (Afternoon), Chilliness. Aggravation, (Evening). Sad etc.; headache; pain in occiput; redness of eyes etc.; pain in upper lid; chilliness. Aggravation, (Night), Nosebleed Aggravation, (Walking in open air), confusion of head Aggravation, (after violent motion), vertigo.
Heart and Pulse
HEART’S ACTION. Distinctly perceptible (to the touch) though not accelerated beating of the heart, with coldness in the precordial region. Violent but regular beating of the heart. Violent, almost audible beating of the heart, oppression of the chest and cold feet. PULSE. Pulse increased in frequency. Accelerated pulse. Pulse accelerated to 80. (Pulse 90 in a syphilitic after taking 116 grains in seven days). Pulse accelerated 86 (usually 65). Pulse 70 (usually 64-67); even after 60 to 70 hours it was still beating 72. Pulse 74 (usually 70). Pulse 78, after 24 hours 74 (usually 70). The pulse which before taking the drug was usually 65, rose within 3 hours to 80 and then to 90 for several hours altogether. Obvious and unequivocal diminution of the pulse, both in fullness and force, commencing within and hour and continuing through the evening and night. Pulse 96, which was an accidental increase of 24 beats, before taking; 80 (after half an hour); 68 (after one hour), which was 4 beats less than natural. Pulse 80 before taking. 64 (after 1 hour).. varying from 56 to 65, a slight exertion or motion raising it to the latter number, and quiet for a time and reducing it to the former, at the same time it was considerably smaller and weaker (after 2 hours); 64 (after 3 and 4 hours).. Pulse 76 before taking; diminished considerably in force, and also reduced about 10 beats in frequency (after 1 or 2 hours).. Pulse 76, before taking; 56, smaller and weaker (after 1 hour); 56 when perfectly quiet, but by a slight exertion or motion it would rise to 64 (after 2 hours).; still smaller and weaker, 48 (after 4 hours).; 36 (after 4 or 5 hours). Pulse in the right hand full, soft, slow, 68, intermitting every 25 to 30 beats, not harmonious to the beat of the heart (80 to the minute).; in the left hand it was very small, soft, compressible, lasting 2 hours.
Sexual organs
Violent erections with emissions. Continued violent erections, with itching on the scrotum. Very much depressed sexual desire, with chilliness and apathetic mood.
