Introduction

Potassium arsenite, As2o3k2o. Preparation: Solution in water.

Mind

Dementia.

Eyes

Inflammation of tarsi. The eyes are suffused with tears. Conjunctiva injected; or glassy. The conjunctiva is slightly inflamed. Conjunctivitis. Slight dim.

Throat

Constriction of the throat. Submaxillary glands swollen and tender.

Stomach

Nausea, vomiting and purging; the vomiting was repeated more than two hundred times (after a quarter of an hour). Vomiting, severe colic, and general prostration of the strength. Gastritis. Slight pain at epigastrium. Mucous irritation of the stomach.

Abdomen

Severe colic, vomiting and general prostration of the strength.

Stool

Violent diarrhoea.

Urine

Urine not very plentiful, and covered with a pellicle.

Heart

Palpitation.

Extremities in General

Limbs swollen. Trembling of the limbs. Great weakness and partial paralysis of upper and lower extremities, with burning pains in the feet.

Superior Extremities

The hands become quite stiff, insensible; the right hand was flexed, with a sticking sensation in the palms.

Inferior Extremities

The knees were bent up so that he could not move the feet.

General symptoms

Lassitude with febrile heat. Weariness. Agitation and alarm. Neuralgic pains. Aggravation from a slight cold.

Skin

Desquamation of cuticle. Nettle rash (ninth day). Faint pityriasis all over covered parts, which are dirty- brown, or dingy, and have an unwashed appearance. Pustular eruption. Ecthyma. Pruritus, and with papulae on scrotum.

Sleep

Want of sleep at night. Restless night.

Fever

Hands and feet icy cold, insensible. Flushes of heat. Febrile heat with lassitude.

Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
