Chest

Contraction of chest. Oppression of chest. Painful sensation in the chest, like stitches. Stitches in chest, especially left side, often extend to spine. Stitches in the chest, and hacking cough, as if caused by a cutting cold sensation deep in the air- passages (after two hours). The stitches in and about the chest become worse every day. Fine stitches in the nipples (after two hours). Fine tearing pain near a the right nipple, extending down into the pelvis (after four and a half hours). Front. Pressure in the upper part of the sternum, as from a load. Pressure on the breast-bone when standing (after twenty- seven hours). Soft pressure internally in the chest, under the sternum, with difficult breathing, and a cold sensation, which rises from the chest into the mouth (after twenty-nine hours). Sides. Stitches in the left side of the chest, when walking (after half an hour). Internal trembling of the left side of the chest, and of the left arm, when lying upon the left side; it ceases in turning to the right side (second day).

Heart and Pulse

Praecordial anxiety. Great anxiety in the praecordial region. When very loudly spoken to, he complained of indefinable distress in the praecordial region; sensation of severe coldness and irresistible sleepiness. Spasmodic stitches in the region of the heart with oppression of the chest, when lying on the left side; on turning to the right side it ceases (second day). Heart’s Action. Heart’s impulse hard, but regular. Palpitation. Palpitation of the heart. He felt and heard the throbbing of the heart against the ribs, after eating (after four and three- quarter hours). Heart beating very slowly, and intermitting. Pulse. Pulse accelerated. (*From gr. xl*) Pulse accelerated. Pulse accelerated from 70 to 79 (after a few minutes). The pulse becomes accelerated by ten to fifteen beats and tense (from the continued use of large doses). (*The large doses are 40 to 60 grs*) Pulse accelerated twenty beats (100). Pulse accelerated by twenty-three beats (after three hours). (*After recovering from loss of consciousness*). Pulse very much accelerated, but undulating, and without strength. Excessive frequency of pulse. Pulse frequent, full and hard, or soft. Pulse frequent and scarcely perceptible (after twenty minutes). Very rapid pulse. After the administration of gradually increased doses of camphor the pulse became very rapid, for several days (nearly ten), without increase of the temperature. Pulse gradually becomes rapid. Pulse ten to fifteen beats more rapid than usual (after one hour). Pulse almost 90, but difficult to count (after one hour). Pulse between 90 to 100, small and irregular (after six hours). Pulse 108, and feeble (after four and a half hours). Pulse 120, and feeble (after three hours). Pulse 180, and small (after two hours). Pulse slow, small, hard, almost suppressed; with fever and sweat, full. Pulse slower by three beats. Pulse slower by ten beats. The pulse sank ten beats below the normal (after one and a half hours). Pulse fell from 72 to 60 (after half an hour). Pulse 60 (after twenty minutes). Pulse fell to 56 (after two hours). Pulse irritable in the evening. Pulse hard and full. Full rapid pulse. Pulse fuller and larger. Pulse full, irritable. Pulse was small, in accordance with its frequency. Pulse small and weak. (*Not found*). Pulse small, weak, and quite frequent. Small hard pulse, becoming slower and slower. Pulse small, slow; sixty beats to the minute (after twelve hours). Pulse extremely small (76 to 80). Pulse weak and thready (after three days). Pulse very weak, scarcely perceptible. Pulse imperceptible at wrist. Pulse could not be counted (after half an hour); the next day extremely weak.

Neck and Back

Neck. Stiffness in nape of neck. Tensive pain in the muscles of the nape of the neck and lower portion of the neck; worse on every motion and on turning the neck (after fifteen hours). Drawing on left side of nape of neck, toward the shoulder. Stitches in the neck, near the right shoulder, on motion (after one and a half hours). Tearing pain in the nape of the neck, on bending the head forward (after two hours). Several painless drawings;in the cervical vertebrae, on motion. Creeping sensation in the left side of the neck, above the clavicle. Swelling of cervical glands. Back. Violent pain in the back, all day. Pain in course of spine. Painful tearing along the medulla spinalis. Dorsal. Tearing pressure on the anterior margin of the shoulder- blade, which renders motion of the arm difficult (after thirty- two hours). Drawing, painful stitches through the shoulder-blades, and between them, extending into the chest on moving the arm, for two days (after twenty-four hours). Lumbar. Pressure in the small of the back. Tired feeling in the small of the back, when walking. Sacral. Sensation of sticking coldness in the sacral region, which passed with lightning-like velocity along the side of the vertebrae to the nape of the neck, and over the whole body, alternating with a feeling of transient heat.

Extremities in General

Stretching of limbs. Trembling limbs. Convulsive agitation in the limbs, after the tetanic stiffness. Violent cramps in extremities (after three days). Limbs as heavy as lead. The limbs are difficult to move. General painful sensitiveness in limbs.

Superior Extremities

Arms more convulsed than lower limbs. Pressure and drawing on the inner side of both arms, during rest of the parts, ceasing while moving them Heaviness in the left arm. Sensation of fatigue in the left arm. The pain immediately begins again during rest of the arms; also in the right arm, when that is at rest. Tired feeling in the left arm, commencing at the left shoulder, extending into the wrist; relieved by motion of the arm. Tearing on the inside of the left arm, passing at times into the thumb and index finger. Shoulder. Pressure on the top of the shoulder (after two hours). Violent pressure on top of right shoulder. Drawing pain in the left shoulder. Bruised pain in the both shoulders. Arm. Tearing pressure in the middle of the posterior portion of the right upper arm. Jerking, fine tearing from the middle of the inner surface of the left upper arm to the middle of the forearm (after three-quarters of an hour). Drawing in the muscles of the left upper arm, when walking. Tearing in the muscles on the inner side of the left upper arm. Elbow. Painful pressure in the right elbow-joint, more violent on leaning upon it, when it extends into the hand (after one and a half hours). Bruised pain in right elbow, wrist, and fingers. Forearm. Tired feeling from the left elbow into the hand. Pressure in right forearm. Tearing pressure on the inner surface of the left forearm. Stitches in the forearm (after one and three-quarters hours). Bruised pain in the lower part of the left forearm. Painful pressure on the inner surface of the left forearm (after one and three-quarters hours). Tearing pressure in the left radius, somewhat above the wrist (after seven hours). Wrist. Violent, continued, pressive pain in the flexors of the left wrist. Hand. Trembling in the hands, especially noticed when writing. Constant movement of the hands (after six hours). Fingers. Pain in the last joint of the thumb, as if sprained, on moving it (after twenty hours). Drawing in the left fingers, especially in the joints. Drawing in the ball of the left thumb Drawing-stitching in the second joint of the left index finger. Tearing in the third left finger.

Inferior Extremities

Tottering, weariness, and heaviness of the lower limbs (after one hour). The gait was tottering. The legs are difficult to move and weary. Could walk with difficulty (after six hours). Tired feeling in the legs, especially in the knees, when sitting. Pressure and drawing on the inner side of both legs, extending to the ankles, during rest of the parts, ceasing while moving them. Hip. Cracking and creaking in the hip, knee, and ankle-joints. Pressure in right hip-joint. Thigh. Pain in the posterior portion of the thigh, above the hollow of the knee, as after a long walk. When walking, painful sensation of stiffness in the outer side of the right thigh. Internal coldness through the right thigh, as if cold air blew on it. Drawing in the gluteus maximus, in the upper part, at its attachment to the crest of the ilium, s if it would make the leg lame. Drawing bruised pain in the thighs, after waling (after five hours). Drawing bruised pain in the right thigh, and on the inner side, near and below the patella; he fears that the leg will bend forward suddenly (after four and a half hours). Pressure deep in the whole right thigh. Tearing in the thighs (after twenty-eight hours). Knee. The knees feel as though they would suddenly bend forward, and as if beaten (after twenty-six hours). Heaviness and pressure in both knees, when sitting. Pain in right knee, as if fatigued. Sensation of coldness in right knee, extending into the foot, when sitting. Severe heat in right knee. Pressive-drawing below the patella, on the inner side of the knee (after thirty hours). Pressure in the right knee. Pressing in the left knee. Tearing in the knees, below the patella, mostly when walking (after six hours). Stitches in the right patella, while sitting (after half and hour). Leg. Heaviness in the legs. The leg goes to sleep, when sitting and bending the knee, with cold sensation (after twenty- one hours). Sensation of numbness in the right leg. Pressure in left leg. Pressure above in right leg. Pressure below in left leg. Heaviness in the lower leg, as from a weight hanging from the knee-joint, and dragging downward. Pressure in the middle of the inner surface of the left lower leg. Pressure in the left lower leg, above the malleolus and posteriorly. Stitching in the calves. Drawing in left calf. Pressure in the center of the left calf, when walking and sitting. Fine stitching in the left calf. Stitching, when walking, on both sides of the tendo Achillis. Ankle. Pain in the ankle, as from a sprain or strain, in the morning, on rising and walking (after eighteen hours). Pressive- drawing pain below the right ankle-bone, when standing, between the malleolus and the tendo Achillis; on moving the foot, it becomes a tearing (after four and a half hours). Pressure in the ankles. When walking, the pressure is worse in the ankles; when sitting, in the knees. Foot. Trembling of the feet. Tremulous tottering and unsteadiness of the feet. Great weariness of the feet, when walking; the leg feels bruised and as if tense. Numbness in right foot. Violent drawing in right foot. Tearing in the forepart of the left foot, in the tips of the toes, and under the nails, when walking (after ten hours). Drawing-pinching pain on the backs of the feet, especially on moving them. Tearing- pinching pain on the back of the foot, extending along the outer side of the calf to the thigh (after thirteen hours). Drawing on the back of the foot. Tearing pressure on the back of the right foot. Burning and stitching in the sole of the right foot. Pressure on the sole of the left foot. Stitching in the ball of the left foot. Toes. Numbness of right toes. Pressure in right toes. Sore pain in the knuckles of the toes, and in the corns (after twenty-six hours). Prickling in the tips of the left toes, then of the right.
