Mind

      Low-spirited.

Fear of approaching illness.

Easily vexed.

Cannot fix his mind on his studies. Dulness of mental faculties.

Inner Head

      Dull throbbing or shooting in right side of forehead; nausea; worse toward evening; from rest, from cold air, or coughing; better from moderate motion.

Tired headache, from mental exhaustion.

Sick headache, eighth day. Begins with blurred vision.

Outer Head

      Shooting in the temples, mostly the right, with constrictive feeling of the scalp.

Eyes

      Redness of the conjunctiva, as from a cold; eyes feel dull, with the neuralgia; burning in the internal canthus, with effusion of tears.

Nose

      Constant sneezing; sharp pains in centre of temples; tickling cough; light, mushy stools.

Face

      Neuralgia involving supra and infra-orbital, superior maxillary and inferior dental nerves; begins after breakfast every morning, with a stupid, stunning headache; copious urine: disposition to stool; burning at the anus.

Sunken eyes with blueness around.

Tongue etc.

      Loss of taste; flat taste.

Tongue feels as if scalded; greasy feeling on arising in morning.

Mouth

      Burning in mouth and fauces, as if on fire.

Ulcers on the mucous lining of the cheeks.

Salivation after diphtheria, with swelling of the parotids.

Saliva taste greasy, slimy.

Desires Aversions

      Loss of taste and appetite.

Eating and Drinking

      Headache after breakfast; aching in the stomach before breakfast and after a cold drink.

Milk sours and is vomited.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Eructations tasteless, or of sour food.

Nausea and vomiting of sour fluid that excoriates throat; sour vomit with the headache.

Vomiting: of food, an hour after eating; of bile, with great heat and sweat.

Stomach

      Great burning distress in epigastrium; can hardly endure it.

Colicky pains every few minutes, in the epigastrium.

Shocks of pain in the umbilical region up to epigastrium.

Hypochondria

      Cutting in the region of the liver.

Pain in right hypochondriac region: worse from motion.

Pains above the crest of the ilium, right side, then left.

      Colicky pains, intermittent about the navel, before each spell of vomiting or purging.

      Stool: thin, watery, tinged with bile, copious, in a continuous stream; green, undigested; mushy, pappy with fetid flatus; bloody mucus, with great straining; burning in anus and rectum after stool; black, with fever, hot sweat, white tongue, severe headache, despondency; yellow, watery, corrosive.

Urine

      Scanty, red; burning the length of the urethra after passing it: clear profuse.

Male Sexual Organs

      Nocturnal emissions, with amorous dreams; coldness and itching of the parts.

Pregnancy

      Morning sickness, vomit sour or bitter.

Larynx

      Dry, tickling cough, smarting burning in throat.

Cough

      Short, dry cough, from tickling in the larynx.

Lungs

      Pain in left side of chest as if the ribs were pressing against the lungs.

Upper Limbs

      Pains shift about rapidly in phalanges and metacarpal bones.

Lower Limbs

      Sciatica, sudden shooting, causing lameness; feels as if (left) was wrenched; pain and lameness extend to popliteal space; worse from moderate, better from violent motion.

      Shifting pains in right hip, both knees (worse right) and in right foot especially, and first joint of great toe.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
