Mind

      Stupid feeling in the head, with vacant gaze; neither seeing not hearing.

Frequent vanishing of thought.

Frequent failure of thought.

Weakness of memory, m forgetfulness.

Confounding ideas. Also in puerperal metritis, with putridity.

Thinks herself well.

Sorrowful mood, inclined to week, or longing for death music and similar emotional cases impel him to weep.

Anxious, apprehensive mood.

Ill-humor. Moroseness. peevishness, ill- temper.

Obstinacy.

Excited condition.

Ailments from emotions.

Sensorium

      Vertigo, morning, in the open air, with staggering like from drunkenness must hold on to something; passes off in the room.

Roaring in the head.

Painful dulness of the head, as after a carouse.

Inner Head

      Headache after a carouse.

Pain pressing outward in forehead.

Heaviness or pressure in various parts of the head, with sensation as if the brain would force through forehead.

Throbbing and beating in forehead from left side of head.

Tearing, drawing and jerking pains.

Occipital headache; much pain and soreness.

Chronic periodic headache in forehead, piercing pain; wheals or swellings on the scalp.

Outer Head

      Eruption on forehead, as with drunkards.

Scales accumulate in large indurated masses and fall off freely.

Falling off of the hair.

Sensibility of scalp to touch, and when the hair is combed.

Eyes

      Dimsighted: as if looking through gauze; as if something was floating before the eyes, obliging to wipe them constantly.

Starting, dull, lifeless and stupid look.

Itching and smarting sensation in eyes, on edges of lids; worse rubbing them.

Suggillation on the conjunctiva of right eye.

Heat in the eyes with ulceration. Burning heat, with tears, worse by bright light.

Discharge of hot, acrid, smarting tears.

Slight inflammation of the meibomian glands.

Eyes protruding.

Chronic swelling of eyelids and their margins.

Agglutination of eyelids.

Ears

      Hard hearing.

Roaring in the head; also humming and difficulty of hearing before and during menses.

Stitches in ears.

Heat, burning, swelling and redness of left outer ear, proceeding from a pimple in the concha, with stiffness and pain in left side of neck, shoulder and arm.

Itching in the ears.

Humid tetter on the ears, with swelling of cervical glands and lived grey complexion.

Nose

      Offensive smell before the nose, with loss of appetite; stinking, in the morning, when awaking.

Nosebleed, with heaviness and throbbing in forehead.

Thin, bright red blood from both nostrils. Catarrh, fluent or dry, with much sneezing.

Chronic catarrh with old people.

Epithelial cancer on right ala nasi.

Lupus on the nose, left side.

Frequent sneezing, with dry, nasal catarrh.

Face

      Sick, suffering expression.

Old looking children.

Complexion: earthy: pale, green, with swelling of cervical; glands. pale bloated; coppery appearance.

Face cold, of pale, bluish tinge, especially on temples and around the nose and mouth.

Flushes of heat, with circumscribed redness of the cheeks.

Face hot, cheeks red, feet cold.

Acne in the face.

Burning pains; worse talking or exertion, better lying on the unaffected side; nervous, excitable.

Lower Face

      Peeling off and cracking of cuticle of upper lip.

Wants to moisten the lips frequently, without being thirst.

Tumor, size of a pea, on lower lip, with acrid, watery ichor, making the surrounding parts sore.

Teeth

      Drawing toothache, extending to temples and ears.

Bad odor from decayed teeth.

Toothache; extending to the temples and to the left side of face; drawing, extending to inner ear and temples.

Teeth wedge shaped.

Very painful dentition; teeth begin to decay as soon as they appear; dark specks on teeth, commencing decay.

Gums; bluish-red; inflamed., on upper left side.

Swelling of the gum over a tooth which was not quite through, causes convulsions.

Gums bleed readily, scorbutic, spongy and ulcerated.

Bleeding of gums and nose, blood dark, quickly coagulating.

Tongue

      Better or flat taste.

Everything eaten tastes bitter.

Tongue: dry, with mucous coating.

Mouth

      Putrid odor from the mouth.

Throat

      Pressure on the right side when swallowing.

Scraping in throat, with roughness and dryness.

Small round bluish-red spots (petechiae) on the throat.

Scratching sensation in the throat.

Desire.

     Aversions Greedy drinking and vomiting.

Great Appetite, especially for meat; craves smoked meat.

Aversion to meat, vomits after it.

Loss of appetite.

Eating and Drinking

      Water, after it is swallowed, tastes bitter.

Worse from eating cold food.

Better from warm diet.

Desires not remain fasting.

Great desire for spirituous drinks, with weakening leucorrhoea.

Stomach aches, from acid food..

Nausea and Vomiting

      Belching and hiccough, especially when sitting up, or being carried.

Belching: sour; empty; after dinner, with throwing off of frothy saliva, and with scraping roughness in throat.

Nausea, during pregnancy; constant inclination to vomit with doing so.

Vomiting: of undigested food two or three hours after; with dimness of vision; of everything eaten.

Stomach

      Tension. over the stomach and scrobiculum, tight clothing is intolerable.

Painful hard spot, at or to the left of the stomach.

Hypochondria

      Stitches in the region of the liver.

Bruised pain in region of liver, with sensation of fulness; must loosen the clothes Constriction of the hypochondria, cannot tolerate tight clothing.

Pressure in region of the spleen, painful on pressure.

Feeling of fulness, m as if he had eaten too much.

Abdomen

      Ulcerative pain in abdomen.

Pain in region of umbilicus.

Abdomen distended and tense,. like a drum, without being hard or painful.

Abdomen not distended, but hard.

Burning in the bowels.

Labor-like pains in abdomen, with drawing in upper abdomen extending to small of back, and pressing toward the lumbar vertebrae, with flushes of heat i face, palpitation of heart, frequent pulse and ineffectual; urging to urinate, finally small quantities of hot urine are passed; after paroxysm chill and discharge of milky leucorrhoea.

Sore pain in abdomen during deep inhalation.

Painful sensation of coldness in abdomen; icy coldness in epigastrium; dyspepsia.

Violent abdominal spasms, worse in the groins.

Stool etc.

      Cramp-like pain in rectum during stool.

Stools. watery or papescent, dark brown, putrid evacuations containing undigested food; greyish or white chopped, very fetid, frequent greenish, watery; cadaverous smelling.

Ineffectual, painful urging to stool.

Constipation, stool hard and expelled only after much pressing.

Constriction in case of uterine cancer.

Urine

      Frequent urgency to urinate, with copious, pale discharge.

Diminished secretion though drinking much; frequent urging, especially at night, must rise, though but small quantity passes.

Urinal chestnut brown clouded; reddish, with red sediment; depositing white sediment; colorless; fetid.

Wets the bed at night, wakes with urging, but cannot retain the urine; or dream, s he is urinating.

Prepuce bluish-black with hemorrhage and gangrene (typically): syphilis.

Male Sexual Organs

      Burning in genitals and impotence during coition, with swelling of penis the next day.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses: too early, too profuse and too protracted; succeeded by an acrid smelling, bloody ichor, with itching and biting in the parts; more or less pain during the flow, but much aggravated after it; flow intermits, at times almost ceasing, then recommencing. (See Ears) Before menses looks swollen as if pregnant.

Metrorrhagia: dark and offensive,.with fainting; pulseless; offensive- smelling in large clots.

Painful urging toward the genitals.

Bearing down and weight in pelvis;l also sensation as if something was coming out the vagina; worse by motion.

Leucorrhoea; putrid, acrid, corrosive, stains clothing yellow, stiffens like starch; mild or acrid; causing much itching; milky, after coccygodynia; worse between the menses, or for a few days before menses; great weakness.

Deep in pelvis, violent burning sensation, with constant whining and moaning.

Fundus of uterus swollen and sensitive to pressure.

Orifice of uterus wide open, almost everted, its inner surface of uterus wide open, almost everted, its inner surface like cauliflower; ulcerative pain in cervix uteri.

Scirrhus of vaginas, painful to slight touch.

During coition: violent pain, preceded by anxiety and trembling burning in the parts, followed next day by discharge of dark blood.

Corrosive itching with the vulva, with soreness and burning after scratching;l bring and swelling of the labia; violent itching between the labia and thighs.

Soreness and smarting between labia and in vulva.

Vomiting before breakfast of sweetish water, breakfast and dinner retained.

Vomiting after supper.

Metrorrhagia threatening abortion (third month –blood black).

Tightness across the pit of stomach.

Very offensive, excoriating lochia; repeatedly almost ceasing, only to freshen up again.

Lochia blackish, lumpy and very offensive.

Stitches in the mammae.

Dwindling away of the mammae, with small, hard, painful lumps in them.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
