Respiratory symptoms of homeopathic remedy Silica, described by Van Denburg in his book, Therapeutics of Respiratory system, cough & coryza, published in 1916….


Miserable, pale, cachectic-looking; cool, sweaty; herpetic lips and nose.

CORYZA.

CHRONIC CORYZA-

Offensive; with loss of smell and taste; tough, slimy, purulent mucus.

Alternately dry and fluent; dry and stopped in morning; fluent during day.

Painful dryness of nose; burning, sharp pains.

Fluent, with acrid water from nose, making inner nose and edge of nostrils sore; bloody discharge; with every fresh cold.

Ulcers and sore spots high up, and very sensitive to touch.

Herpetic symptoms around nostrils.

Fetid, offensive, nasal catarrh; hard masses blown from the nose every morning, followed by discharge of pus.

Caries of nasal bones.

Frontal sinuses inflamed; with throbbing headache in forehead; uvula swollen.

Fauces dry and painful; itching in Eustachian tube; swelling of nasal mucous membrane.

Inflammation of lachrymal duct.

DISCHARGES-

None; membrane dry and painful.

Watery and excoriating; alternating with dryness.

Offensive, purulent, slimy, and tough; or Of hard, dry masses, followed by pus.

Bloody discharge.

COUGH.

Chronic cough; bronchitis; tuberculosis.

SCANTY COUGH-

Laryngeal cough, beginning immediately on rising in the morning; with very tough, tenacious, and thick sputa.

DRY COUGH-

Dry cough, from tickling in throat, or lower down; shaking abdomen.

Dry, harassing night cough; raising tough mucus in morning.

Hacking, tickling night cough; especially troublesome after lying down.

Nervous asthma; dry cough; cannot stoop, or lie down.

LOOSE COUGH-

Loose cough, with copious transparent, or purulent sputa in rachitic children.

Chronic loose cough; profuse sputa and vomiting of tenacious mucus during cough, especially in morning; profuse purulent sputa, with emaciation.

Asthmatic cough, with profuse, purulent sputa; worse when lying down; from draft of air on neck and shoulders; spasm of larynx; throbbing in chest.

SPUTA-

Thick, tenacious mucus, purulent or viscid.

Purulent, fetid, heavy, sinking in water.

Milky white, yellow, green, acrid, greasy.

WORSE-

In morning.

From cold air: from cold drinks.

In evening; after lying down.

BETTER-

From warmth, from wrapping up warmly.

From warm drinks.

SPECIAL-

Asthmatic breathing from electrical storms.

SENSATIONS-

Itching in Eustachian tube.

Very sensitive to drafts of air, especially on back of neck.
