CORYZA.
DRY CORYZA-
Dry coryza; hoarseness and loss of voice; lump in throat.
Total loss of voice.
FLUENT CORYZA-
Very fluent coryza; frequent sneezing, hoarseness, headache.
Nostrils crusty, sore; tip and alae, red and sore; burning pains in nostrils.
Nosebleed when washing the face (Ind.).
Posterior pharynx coated in the morning with very tenacious and adherent mucus.
DISCHARGES-
Thick, yellowish discharge from one or both nostrils; with lassitude.
Yellow, green, or bloody mucus (chronic).
WORSE-
Nose obstructed in room; clear in open air, but returns on reentering room.
SENSATIONS-
Scraping, dryness, parched feeling in larynx.
Sharp, stinging pain in throat when swallowing; pain worse from cold.
Choking and feeling of obstruction when swallowing; pain felt to stomach on swallowing (Rhus tox.).
COUGH.
DRY COUGH-
Tormenting, dry cough; gets nothing up; or, if anything (scanty) is coughed up, it must be swallowed; leans forward with the cough.
Dry cough, with parched and dry larynx.
SCANTY COUGH-
Sleep disturbed by dry cough; wakes about 2 A.M., with great dryness of the throat; coughs for an hour, with gagging and scanty expectoration.
At 3 a.m. and thence on, every half hour.
Violent, chronic cough begins at 3 A.M., lasts an hour; with sharp pains in the chest, wheezing and gagging, even to vomiting.
Severe, spasmodic cough, day and night; scanty lumps of grayish mucus.
SPUTA-
None, cough dry; feels as if a tough membrane moved back and forth with the effort, but nothing is loosened.
Scanty and very difficult; must be swallowed as soon as it is up far enough.
Of small, round lumps.
Blood-streaked, tasting sourish.
Yellow and scanty, tasting like old cheese.
WORSE-
From eating, drinking, or from any exertion.
Evening, awhile after lying down.
In the night; especially at 2 A.M.; 3 A.M.; 4 A.M.; 5 A. M.; half-hourly after 3 A.M.
RESPIRATION-
Difficult wheezing breathing; worse from coughing, drinking, motion, walking, etc.
Asthma 3 a.m.; must lean forward with head on knees.
PULSE-
Weak and slow; irregular, intermitting; no fever.
SENSATIONS-
Splitting headache, worse from cough.
Stitching pains in chest; worse, inspiring, and lying on affected side (Bryonia opposite).
SPECIAL-
Cough dry and tormenting; or, scanty and very difficult.
Chronic bronchitis, from cold and damp weather.
Puffiness of upper eyelid, in some cases.
Inability to raise difficult sputa farther than to swallow it.
