COUGH.
DRY COUGH-
Incessant, dry, tickling cough; worse, lying; better, sitting up. Violent, spasmodic, dry, short, rapid cough, from tickling, as of too long palate, or of adherent mucus; face reddens with cough.
Frequent, dry, spasmodic cough, that wakens him, but he falls asleep again.
Spasmodic, paroxysmal cough, that shakes the whole body, and causes soreness in abdominal muscles; after cough, exhaustion.
SPUTA-
None, cough dry.
Very scanty, saltish mucus, or bright red blood, mixed with coagula.
WORSE-
Lying down.
Eating, drinking, singing.
At rest; from sleep.
BETTER-
Sitting up.
LARYNX-
Adherent mucus makes voice rough.
RESPIRATION-
Loss of breath as from rapid running.
Spasm of chest, arrest of breathing; must lean forward.
