DIGITALIS PURPUREA

CORYZA.

Oftener dry than fluent, with hoarseness, and pain over root of nose.

Thirst, without fever; tongue clean.

Smell of food excites nausea (Colchicum).

DISCHARGES–

Oftener dry than fluent.

COUGH.

Hoarseness early in morning.

Frequent, painless hoarseness.

LOOSE COUGH–

Loose cough, profuse, purulent sputa.

Spasmodic, deep, hollow cough, from irritation in roof of mouth and trachea: dry in the morning, loose in evening, with scanty, difficult sputa.

SPUTA–

Sometimes of sweetish taste, with a little dark blood.

Scanty, yellow, sweetish, jelly-like; dry in morning, loose in evening.

Profuse, difficult, like boiled starch.

Profuse, loose, purulent.

Very difficult, thick, liver-colored masses, occurring at or near menstrual period; menses suppressed.

Bloody, thick sputa, with high fever. (The coughs of Digitalis are usually without fever).

WORSE–

About midnight, and toward morning.

Talking, or walking in open air.

After eating, or from cold drinks.

Dry, morning: loose evening.

BETTER–

After raising sputa : Sitting up, or with head high.

RESPIRATION–

Constant desire to draw a deep breath, which seems obstructed, and produces dry cough.

Difficult, slow, and deep.

Irregular respiration, with frequent deep sighs.

Passive congestion of lungs, dependent on weak heart.

Sudden spells of dyspnea; the chest feels as if being constricted, with great anxiety and restlessness, no heat.

Great pain in sternum; lying quietly finally brings relief.

PULSE–

Violent, but not very rapid beating of heart.

Several slow, strong, long, full beats, then three or four hurried, short, soft beats : Heart irregular.

SENSATIONS–

Irritation in roof of mouth and trachea, provoking cough: Constriction in chest and throat.

Sensation as though the heart stood still: with great anxiety.
