Respiratory symptoms of homeopathic remedy Bufo, described by Van Denburg in his book, Therapeutics of Respiratory system, cough & coryza, published in 1916….


(SHOULD PROVE A MOST EFFICIENT DRUG).

CORYZA.

Coryza with great dryness; loss of smell.

Fluent coryza with frequent sneezing.

Blows clear water from the nose.

Sneezing evenings going to bed.

Fluent coryza; discharge of yellowish, greenish, and grayish mucus from the nose, of a putrid odor.

Cold air causes feeling of corrosion.

DISCHARGES-

Dry at first; fluent afterward.

Greenish, yellowish, or grayish finally, and having a putrid odor.

Bad odor to all the discharges; nauseous, bitter, bad taste in the mouth, coppery, vile, salty, insipid, etc.

WORSE-

From breathing cold air.

SPECIAL-

Putrid, offensive odor to all mucous discharges.

COUGH.

DRY COUGH-

With burning, excoriation, and stitches in larynx and chest.

Severe cough, from constant tickling in larynx.

Hoarse, hollow, deep cough, With tearing, sharp pains in chest; especially the left.

Following the coryza.

Violent cough, Provoking vomiting.

LOOSE COUGH-

With abundant sputa.

Dry and scanty cough in paroxysms, at long intervals, With tendency to gagging and retching (Bufo, 20X-2 tablets 2 hrs.; or, 1 tablet 1 hr., gave quick relief to cough of 48 hours. May 1, 1909.).

SPUTA-

Clear and viscid mucus.

Great quantity of mucus obstructs the larynx and bronchi.

Copious, frothy, whitish, yellowish, grayish, or greenish and purulent sputa.

Sputa of mucus and blood, or of blood only.

Putrid, offensive odor to all mucous discharges.

WORSE-

After meals, and from any emotion.

In the room.

From motion; but does not cease at rest.

From cold feet, dry cough.

Day and night, from irritation in the larynx.

Only at night, from irritation in larynx.

Evening and morning, loose cough.

In daytime, before a meal; ceases at night.

Especially at 3 A.M., with trembling in all the limbs, and suffocation.

BETTER-

After eating.

CHEST AND RESPIRATION-

Great difficulty of breathing, with sensation of compression in the larynx.

Oppression of the chest, and suffocation.

Weakness of chest, as if it would collapse.

Difficult and noisy breathing from oppression of chest.

Burning heat in chest.

Cutting pains in the whole chest.

Sharp stitches, short, violent, impeding breathing, as if from pectoral muscles.

Violent itching seeming to come from the lungs.

SENSATION-

Severe sore throat; cannot eat on account of pain.

Suffocative cough.

Burning in larynx and chest.

Tearing sharp pains in chest with the cough.

Cold sensation followed by great heat and congestion to the chest.

Feeling of compression in the larynx, with great difficulty in breathing.

Violent, sharp stitches in the chest, checking breathing: As if chest and heart were constricted; must sit up and bend forward.

FEVER AND PULSE-

Always chilly; high fever. (Camph.)

Irregular pulse.

TEMPERAMENT-

Anxious, fearful, sensitive.

Complaining, taciturn, spiteful.

SPECIAL-

Cough following marked coryza, and Attended by much irritation of larynx, And stitching pains in chest.
