THREE LITTLE CASES TRAILING AFTER MODERN MEDICAL SCIENCE.

A man of fifty-five who had fractured his right hip languished in a hospital for six months, then was discharged. But so much pain continued that he could only shuffle about the house with a cane or with support of the furniture. Even after a little of that he was forced to stop. The character of the pain was soreness and it was worse when beginning to get about. it was not affected perceptibly by weather conditions. There was about three inches shortening, but I thought the cause of the pain was bone Calcarea fluoride 12th on moistened sugar tablets, the dosage to be four times a day. On the fourth day thereafter the patient walked a mile up the road without a cane.

A mail carrier of forty-five strained the inner side of the right knee by a twist of the foot outward. he was compelled to rest it four weeks, making a partial recovery, after which he resumed work. Soon after that he had an attack of pneumonia and rested it some more. But the lameness continued to interfere with his work, so he consulted an orthopedist of note. Split cartilage with fluid in the joint was the verdict of the X-ray. Operation was urged. As occasionally happens when a patient is confronted with what seems to him to an emergency, the homoeopath was consulted.

Symptoms: The knee pains and gives way when descending stairs or walking on rough or soft ground. Sometimes the knee bends backward sharply while walking. The pain is worse from any jar or unwanted motion. The joint feels dry. Ruta 1M was given.

Three days later the condition was improving but the patient kept his second appointment with the specialist, nevertheless. This gentleman instead again that operation was necessary and predicted that the knee would always be lame until it was done. But our friend was a veteran of two wars and had had reason to form opinions of his own on the subject of such operations.

He asked the doctor whether the knee would not be stiff after the operation and was told that, of course, he must expect that. To make a short story shorter the knee continued to improve and loosen up for two weeks or so until one day the patient in walking around a corner twisted the knee again. It has been all right since, more than five years.

Veteran of war and inoculations, aged 32. History of tinea of the foot five or six years, partly suppressed during the last year, the suppression followed by numbness and weakness of the left leg and arm. In addition he was subject to sharp pains about the left hip, relieved by lying on the same side. The reflexes of these extremities were feeble. In the upper posterior portion of the thigh there was a tumefaction about two and half by one and a half inches which his former physician had diagnosed as neuroma; and of course excision was advised.

The patient had foot sweat and during the cold weather, piles. Sensitive to cold, the coldness extending gradually upward when the feet became cold, especially in the evening but always warming up in bed. His head sweats when he wears a hat, hands sweat when nervous. Easily fatigued Silica 12th, four times a day for two weeks, was prescribed. In two weeks the pains were only dull and arterial tension had risen from 90/60 to 110/65.

Six weeks later Silica 30th was prescribed, 3 doses, two hours apart. This helped the tiredness and numbness a week only. Silica 500, was then given, d.u., with gradual improvement for nine months. Then Sul. 200, was given for a cold and later Aluminum met. 1M for a persistent hoarseness. The tumor had then disappeared. Seven months later he reported with a full blown case of tinea on the feet, which cleared fairly well with Silica 500, and was finished completely two months later by a third prescription of Silica 500. by Dr. Shupis.

Here are three simple problems that any homoeopath could solve off hand. Per contra, one orthopaedic patient hanging around a hospital at least four months longer than he should, cured in four days with “sugar pills”; another urged to submit to the production of a jointless leg for the last third of his three score and ten, cured in about two weeks with a single prescription of a single remedy; a third urged to have an operation which would be likely to increase an already partial paralysis to say nothing of loading up forever in his organism a deadly combination of miasms, the doctors being totally blind to the cause of the malady. He was cured in about nineteen months of his foci and given a clean bill of health besides; and the disease was no doubt complicated by the false prophylactics to begin with.

Think of all the grand institutions, hospitals, libraries, great professional organizations. bureaucratic and semi- bureaucratic health police. Think of the millions being filched for “health” by way of taxation robbery, the vast play and advertising of research institutions, chemical works and untold miles of advertising and scientific matter. But with all this, not even the simplest therapeutic miracle can be performed because of perverted innocence concerning the individual vital pattern. All it can do is to maul disease conditions over and over with surgery, saturate with chemicals and degenerative animal fifth by way of the needle, unable to help even the simplest of vital perversions in the normal way.

And what have homoeopaths done to renovate this gruesome exhibition? Well, we all know. Look at the deadly anemia of our own organizations and institutions. This is the result of catering, imitating, seconding. These things in turn followed form neglect of theory and putting it into effect with careful, persistent practice with potencies. Had the spirit and the mind been really activated and cultivated within the homoeopathic milieu the results would have built up such a mass of lay opinion as to have become irresistible.

The situation would have been reversed; the prospect of medical and political slavery would never have risen. As it is now, we can only remain quiet and see the drugless cults bring on the revolution in which we should have been the leaders. For great numbers of people are deserting the traditional M.D. and the process is accelerating. They are going over to more harmless practices.

However despite all the turmoil and confusion on the surface of life, there is a new psychic opportunity for better understanding and better living. But we shall have to look around for it. There is now a critical turn in the general human drift, as all know. But few, indeed, understand the play of forces and still fewer, if any, feel at all certain about the outcome.

P.S. Circumstances decreed that the above had to serve for this place and for a number on the program of the Connecticut Homoeopathic Medical Society which held its ninety-ninth annual meeting May sixteenth. Two experts from Yale University had places on the program, one a foremost manipulator in the so called management of diabetes and the other a researcher in causes of cancer. It is interesting to note that certain statements of both these gentlemen were challenged by members of the Society, resulting in considerable animation, to say the least. The cancer man had made several statements which coincided with homoeopathic theory. This was taken advantage of the entertainment and amusement of all, as well as tinctured with serious consideration of the problems involved.

As to the diabetic problem, the faithful use of insulin was defended by the expert with emphatic positiveness, not to say internal warmth. This can well be understood. For without insulin what would become of the diabetic societies and how would the public ever get the “high down” as to what it and its human integres should do? How otherwise could they be kept in line?.
