It seems to be very significant that in the last years many papers about proving have been published in our homoeopathic magazines. We need provings and we specially need modern provings of the 100 most used medicines and then of 300 drugs more. And we need international cooperation because we have to do much work.
I think that the important task of our present generation should be the systematic proving of the 92 chemical elements and their combinations. It is to be expected that these 92 elements will cover most symptoms of all diseases. We must make these provings in the most systematic way and with drugs of the highest chemical purity. Let me give an example about the combination Sodium sulphate. We must prove:.
1.) Sodium metallicum 2.) Sodium Hydroxide 3.) Oxygen 4.) Sulphur 5) Hydrogen 6.) Hydrogen sulphide 7.) Sulphuric acid 8.) Sodium sulphate.
Then we may continue: Potassium, Potassium hydroxide, Potassium sulphate; then Calcium metallicum. Calcium oxide. Calcium sulphide, Calcium sulphate, etc. By this way we could get comparisons between Sodium, Potassium and Calcium salts, between sulfates, chlorides and iodides, as allopaths pretend to have.
But there is another possibility of much more importance: If we shall have the provings of the 92 chemical elements and shall arrange the results according to the periodical system of elements, it is most probable that we will get very important news; you may remember that all modern atom physics derives from this periodical system.
When we have the provings, we must arrange the results in a new materia medica. We never can expect to get a universal science with our present materia medica, discoordinated, full of antiquated expressions and overburdened with clinical symptoms of doubtful value. I think we ought to arrange description in this way: 1.) Short indication about the drug in 2 lines (belladonna: tincture of the fresh plant of Atropa Belladonna, Solanaceaes, proved by x on y provers in am b, and c potencies).
2.) Short summary about specific action on certain organs and leading symptoms.
3.) Symptoms of proving, using black letters, italics and ordinary letters.
4.) Clinical symptoms.
a.) of recognized value.
5.) Other symptoms, specially those found by Hahnemann, but not ratified by new provings.
The Kentian system with its mathematical repertorization is a most interesting and highly developed branch of Homoeopathy, maybe the most perfect possible method of healing. But I am afraid we will not increase in number, as we ought to do, if we cannot offer a more logical teaching of materia medica, based upon pharmacological descriptions of the drug pictures with an indication of the differentiating symptoms.
