Some Cases and Difficulties in Treatment

The 18th March, 1881: A woman comes to me to consult for the cure of the character of her husband, who since 17 years of the marriage is sulky, gloomy, defiant, very little affectionate and however very jealous. I recommend to give him without his knowledge and once 6 to 7 globules of Nux-vomica 200 in a soup.

The 22nd May: His wife tells me that her husband is less sulky, more expansive, more affectionate and less jealous. I recommend to give him without his knowledge Sach. lac. to be taken once.

The 10th July: The character of her husband does no more ameliorate. I gave him without his knowledge Lachesis 200 once.

The 7th August: His wife informs me that her husband has become more artful, more wicked, more jealous. Knowing in this case that there is a medicinal aggravation, I prescribed Sach.lact.

The 11th September: Aggravation persisting. I asked the woman if her husband had other symptoms which will require other remedies.

His wife informs me that, 15 days afterwards their marriage, he went for a walk with his brother, a young man the friend of the latter. Since then, i.e. to say since 17 years, her husband has against her a persisting antipathy accompanied by defiance and jealousy; all the symptoms aggravated from that time. I thought to cure the antipathy which was perhaps the starting point of other defects of this unfortunate character.

To this end I gave him without his knowledge and once only 5 to 6 globules of Calcarea-c. 300.

From the next day i.e. 16th October, his tells me the antipathy of her husband has began to diminish, and, at the same time the defiance, the jealousy, the sombre character, less affectionate, less expansiveness. That amelioration increased progressively.

That husband has become besides, more alert and more strong to such a point that he does two times more labour in the same space of time. What is surely important for a man who is obliged to earn by this work his bread and that of his family.

I will show later on that strength in the movements caused by Calcarea-c. in a young girl and by Sulphur in two men.

The amelioration caused by Calcareacarn. lasted only 3 weeks. The 16th Oct.Sach lact.

His wife admits that her husband has not more beat her since when I have begun the treatment.

30th October, 1881: All the defects of character, specially the antipathy and hate against his wife relapsed. I prescribed Natrum muriaticum 200, without success.

Being discouraged his wife stopped the treatment.

She came back to consult me on the 14th May, 1982: Nux-vomica 10,000, caused aggravation for three weeks which was more than it was in other remedies. He is expansive, gay, talkative, laborious neither hateful, nor spiteful.

18th July: Sach.lact.

23rd July: Sach.lact.

10th Sept: Sach.lact.

17th September: He has remained perfectly ameliorate for six months, but since 2 to 3 weeks, he begins to pass in review in his mind the disagreeable memories relating to his wife.

The aggravation manifested at the beginning of the winter.

1883, 11th February: Nux vomica 10,000. The aggravation by Nux vomica did not last 3 weeks like that of the 14th May, 1882, but only two weeks and it was stronger. All the defects reappeared more strongly that were completely disappeared. He is at present very well.

1883, 3rd May: The amelioration produced by Nux vomica 200 of the 13th March, 1881 lasted more than one month: that which was produced by Nux vomica 10,000 of the 14th May, 1882, lasted almost two months. That of 17th December, 1882, produced by Nux vomica 10,000 lasted 3 months and a half. Since 15 days he has become sad taciturn, misanthrope, a little jealous and above all very wicked I gave him Nux vomica 10,000.

1883, 24th June: The remedy of the 3rd May has produce an aggravation for 8 days, then everything calmed down for 15 days. After all the defects relapsed. I gave Nux vomica 10,000. Prolonged amelioration.

1884, Nux vomica 10,000: Caused amelioration for one years.

1885, 14th May: There was relapse which lasted for 15 days and disappeared spontaneously.

Since 15 days, acute relapse of all the defects. I prescribed Nux vomica 10,000.

XII. Young girl, rough, self-centred, not affectionate: Cured by Calcareac. 300.

XIII. Mme X., mother of the preceding young girl, had a maid servant who was doing very well her service, but in a very rough manner, speaking not a single word and never smiling. I gave without her knowledge once 6 to 7 globules of Calcarea carb. 300.

Two or three weeks after, she became expansive, smiling, alert but not rough and warm hearted to ask me the news of her mistress who was ill, coming with me to the door of her house which she has never done up till to-day.

XIV profound indifference to everything in a young woman. Cured by Ammon, carb.

A young woman was sometimes attacked by a long and deep indifference to everything even to her husband, her children and everything, even for ornaments that are offered to her.

The husband according to my advice gave to his wife 6 to 7 globules of Ammoniumcarb.30 dissolved in 6 spoonfuls of clear water, to be taken once a day.

This medicine cured that indifference which reappeared twice at long intervals and very slightly, is cured by this medicine given in different dilutions.

XV. A young girl having a very concentric character was cured by pulsatilla.

Consulted by a young girl of 20 years, who was throughout her life very concentric and which was a contrast to the expansive character of her 9 brothers and sisters. I prescribed the following remedies.

1875. 28th August : Ignatia 30.

7th September : Pulsatilla 12.

28th September : Pulsatilla 6,000.

12th October : Pulsatilla 12.

24th October : Pulsatilla 12.

She has become very open-minded since then, contrary to her former character.

XVI. Vesical tenesmus, and loss of control, cured by Cantharis

15.

Mme X..had a vesical tenesmus and was very much apprehensive of this tenesmus; she was besided verp timid and she did not dare to go to an invitation or to a dance with high class people.

I prescribed her Cantharis 15 to be taken three times a day.

The tenesmus was cured.

The next day she joined a festive dance and to an invitation, having more control of herself.

XVII. Great chronic timidity, cured by Staphysagria 30.

Miss X, aged 40, was very timid throughout her life which hampered the expansion of her clients, she used to give some lessons of Piano; as she is very much impressionable, and very much warm hearted and was suffering at that time from domestic troubles. I gave her Staphysagria 30 to be taken once.

17 days afterwards she joined a festive dance of a marriage with persons who were above her social condition. She had quite natural control of herself, which was astonishing to the persons who knew her timidity and uneasiness.

XVIII. Psychic effects of some remedies-Clinical cases-Graphites

30.

1. Taking this remedy Mr. P.became very irascible easily angered against his employees (Primitive effects).

2. After having taken it Mme R. became less irascible than she was formerly (Curative effect).

XIX. Thuja 30: In Mr.H. Produced a gaiety and even expansive gaiety to make some gestures and singing. He has never expansive gaiety,

Formerly he was sedentary and a stay-at-home. Now he likes to go out (which he never did).

He was (the 9th Sept.) sad, afflicted for the illness of his wife: misanthrop after the suppression of haemorrhoids.

Give this remedy to sad persons suffering from gonorrhoea.

14th March, 1874: Thuya 1000 5/5 brought back the gaiety which disappeared for 8 to 10 days but the gaiety is less expansive and less mobile. He hums but less.

Seeing a young woman or a young girl he has the ideas of marriage (no lascivious ideas as of old). His ideas were neither platonic, nor material, but of friendliness.

Should this remedy give to people the ideas of marriage?

A little child of two and half years, onanist, keeps everything for himself, not sociable: Silicea 30; since then it took pleasure to divide his sweets with others, and his playthings with his friends.

According to Dulac, Silicea will be the best remedy of avarice.

A young boy, mental derangement because of an excessive joy curred by Coffea in strong dose and Jusquiame, Nux vomica and Lachesis: Fleeting jealousies.

“In our social condition, the passions and their consequences perish many individual than the pest, war, famine because thousands of affects make the life weak and injured.

“Look around you see how they die every day, the by grief, the other by deceived ambition or out of envy which make them more and more angry.” (Dr.Virey).

The freedom of will is diminished, weakened and suppressed by the disease (morbid impulses more or less irresistible), by some violent emotions (fright, anger, jealousy, contrariety insult.), by drunkenness and by other medicines.

These case have not the clarity and the elegance like those of the preceding cases.
