COMMON NAME:

      IODINE.

Symptoms

      Adapted to persons of a scrofulous diathesis, with a low, cachectic condition, profound debility and great emaciation (Abrotanum, Natrum muriaticum, Sanicula) (A.).

Bad effects of mercury (China, Dulcamara, Hepar, Lachesis, Acid nitricum) (Bt.)

EMACIATION TO A SKELETON.

Great debility; the slightest effort induces perspiration (Calcarea, China, Kali- c., sepia)

Violent trembling of the limbs (Agaricus, Gelsemium, Kali-Br., Lachesis, Mercurius, Mygale., Phosphorus, Plb., Silicea, Tarent., Zincum met.)

Twitching of the muscles (Belladonna, Cur., Gelsemium, Hyoscyamus, Lachesis).

Great excitability of the whole nervous system (Coffea, Gelsemium, Phosphorus).

Violent tearing in the joints.

CHRONIC RHEUMATISM OF THE JOINTS, WITH NIGHTLY PAINS WITHOUT SWELLING.

Swelling and induration of the glands are of major importance when the remedy is indicated.

Warm-blooded notwithstanding emaciation;wants a cool place to move, think, or work in (N.).

Great weakness and loss of breath on going up-stairs (N.).

Inflammations of the larynx and trachea (Brom, Chlorum, Kali-M., Phosphorus).

WHEEZING AND SAWING RESPIRATION (Spongia) (A.).

CROUP: THERE IS A HOARSE VOICE AND DIFFICULT INSPIRATION; THE CHILD GRASPS ITS THROAT; CROUP CAUSED BY LONG-CONTINUED DAMP WEATHER (D.).

Membranous croup (Bromium, Chlorum, Kali bichromicum., Kali-M., Merc-Cyn., Phosphorus) (N.).

Phthisis pulmonalis, with constant tickling and inclination tom cough, in the wind-pipe and under the sternum; expectoration of transparent mucus, streaked with blood; morning sweats; emaciation;wasting fever; rapid pulse; diarrhoea;and in females amenorrhoea (Hg.).

First and second stages of pneumonia, especially in the croupous form where the hepatization tends to extend rapidly; difficulty in breathing, as if the chest would not expand; cough and blood -streaked sputa, accompanied by high fever (Bryonia, Kali-M., Phosphorus, Sulphur) (D.).

Continual taste of salt in the mouth (Mercurius, Merc-C., Natrum muriaticum, Pulsatilla) (G.).

Constipation with ineffectual urging, relieved by drinking cold milk (A.).

HUNGER AND THIRST INCREASED ( Arsenicum, Bism., Chelidonium, Phosphorus, Sulphur).

Continual empty eructations, from morning till evening, as if every particle of food was turned into air (G.).

RAVENOUS APPETITE, WITH GREAT EMACIATION (Abort., natrum muriaticum, Sanicula) (D.).

Extreme hunger, but in spite of this the patient emaciates. (D.).

      From heat;from fasting; in warm air; in a warm room; from wrapping up the head (reverse of hep., Psorinum, and Silicea); at night; during rest.

AMELIORATION:

      While eating; from moving;in cold air; and from bathing.

RELATIONSHIP:

      complementary to: Lycopodium

Compare: Acet-Ac., Bromium, Chlorum, Conium, Kali bichromicum, and Spongia in membranous croup.

Follows well after; Hepar, and Mercurius; and is followed by Kali bichromicum in croup.

Adolph Lippe
Adolph Lippe (born near Goerlitz, Prussia, 11 May 1812; died in Philadelphia, 23 January 1888) was a homeopathic physician who worked in the United States. Adolph got a legal education at Berlin. After completing his legal studies, Lippe became interested in homeopathy, and emigrated to the United States in 1837 to further his study. In 1838, he enrolled in the North American Academy of Homeopathy at Allentown, Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1841. He settled in Philadelphia, where from 1863 until 1868 he was professor of materia medica in the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania. Besides some essays and treatises from the French, German, and Italian which became standards, Lippe was the author of:
