COMMON NAME:

      BARBERRY.

Symptoms

      Cold feeling in the prepuce and scrotum (Bromium, Dioscorea, Mercurius).

Acts principally upon the kidneys, bladder and liver (D.).

It is called for when the renal and vesical symptoms are prominent (D.).

Cutting in the bladder, extending down the urethra (D.).

Stitch from the urethra into the bladder (G.).

Tearing pains in the bladder (D.).

Sensation as if some urine remained after urinating (Alumina, Arsenicum, Calcarea, Causticum, Clem., Gelsemium, Hepar, Kali carb., Mag-M., Nux vomica) (Br.).

SHORT COUGH AND CHEST COMPLAINTS, ESPECIALLY AFTER OPERATIONS FOR FISTULAE (Calcarea phos., Silicea) (A.).

Crawling, burning and itching in and about the anus (R.).

Neuralgia of spermatic cords and testicles (Clem., Dioscorea, Ox-Ac., Pulsatilla) (Br.).

Stitch from the urethra into the bladder (G.).

Is useful in liver troubles when there are sticking pains in he region of the gall-bladder; these may simulate gall-stone colic, and are followed by jaundice (Chelidonium, Lycopodium) and clay-coloured stool (Bl.).

Sticking pains under the ribs (D.).

Pressure or sticking pain in the region of the liver (N.).

Pains go from the liver to the abdomen (Chelidonium) (D.).

Fatigued, worn-out expression of the countenance; sunken cheeks; deep-seated eyes, surrounded with bluish borders (G.).

Backache, extending to the pelvis and posterior portion of the thighs (N.).

BERBERIS is one of the great remedies for patients who suffer from what is known as the “lithic acid diathesis: (R.).

Movement brings on or increases the urinary complains (A.).

Cutting pain in the vagina, during coition (Ferr-M.) (Br.).

Menses scanty, with pain preceding the flow (Caulophyllum, Pulsatilla, Sepia).

Headache, aggravated by movement, and relieved in the open air.

Melancholy, inclination to weep (Ignatia, Natrum muriaticum, Pulsatilla, Stann.).

Inflammation of the tonsils and pharynx, with swelling and fiery redness, and a sensation as if a lump were lodged in the side of the throat.

Unrefreshing sleep (Nux vomica).

Perspires easily from the least exertion (Agaricus, Calcarea, China, Ferrum, Graphites, Iodium, Kali carb., Kali-P., Lycopodium, Natrum carbonicum, Psorinum).

AGGRAVATION:

      From motion; while walking; from carriage-riding; from any sudden, jarring movement; from lying down; and from deep pressure.

AMELIORATION:

      After urination.

RELATIONSHIP:

      Similar to : Cantharis, Dioscorea, Lycopodium, Nux vomica, Ocim., Pulsatilla, Sarsaparilla, and Terebintha, in renal colic.

Acts well after Arnica, Bryonia, Kali bichromicum, Rhus toxicodendron, and Sulph., in rheumatic affections.

Adolph Lippe

Adolph Lippe (born near Goerlitz, Prussia, 11 May 1812; died in Philadelphia, 23 January 1888) was a homeopathic physician who worked in the United States. Adolph got a legal education at Berlin. After completing his legal studies, Lippe became interested in homeopathy, and emigrated to the United States in 1837 to further his study. In 1838, he enrolled in the North American Academy of Homeopathy at Allentown, Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1841. He settled in Philadelphia, where from 1863 until 1868 he was professor of materia medica in the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania. Besides some essays and treatises from the French, German, and Italian which became standards, Lippe was the author of:
