Arnica [Arn]

Tympanitic distention of abdomen, frequent urging to stool; had swelling of right side of abdomen, with severe pain when touched, (>) by escape of flatus.

Carbo-veg [Carb-v]

Accumulation of flatus in right side of upper abdomen, more towards back, with pinching pains; much flatus and destination of abdomen from decomposition of food, which usually digestion easily, (>) from passing wind upward and downward flatus collects here and there in abdomen gradually passing down in rectum, with heat.

China [Chin]

Abdomen distended wants to belch ERUCTATIONS AFFORD NO RELIEF; tympanitic abdomen, pressure as from a hard body in mid-sternum, as if food were lying there, or spasmodic, constrictive pains from incarcerated flatulence, (<) at night and after depletion, mornings; flatulence from excessive tea-drinking, from fruit; emission of flatus, often very foetid; without relief.

Cocculus [Cocc]

Colchicum [Colch]

Abdomen distended and painful, borborygmi; colic preceded by discharge of flatus; by lying stomach.

Lycopodium [Lyc]

Accumulation of flatulence which becomes INCARCERATED, pressure upward with full feeling, also downward on rectum and bladder; great fermentation in abdomen, with colic and discharge of much flatus.

Opium [Op]

Hard, bloated, tympanitic abdomen,ANTIPERISTALTIC ACTION, belching and vomiting; bowels downward seem absolutely closed, with urging to stool and anxiety.

Raphanus [Raph]

Distention of abdomen, followed by grouping, as if stool would occur; abdomen hard, as if filled with air, no pain, but cannot bear pressure, FLATUS FAIL TO PASS UPWARD OR DOWNWARD; sensation of heat, especially about umbilicus.

Terebinthina [Ter]

Tympany in typhoid, puerperal fever, abdomen, enormously distended, especially in later state (Chin, easily, a symptom of great debility).

Samuel Lilienthal
Dr. Samuel Lilienthal (1815-1891) was from Germany, and became a pioneer homeopath in America. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Munich in 1838. After he moved to the United States, he was hired as Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York College for Women, and also as Professor of Mental and Nervous Diseases at the New York Homeopathic College.
Dr. Samuel Lilienthal was the author of many great books including “Homeopathic Therapeutics”. For many years, with the support of Dr. Constantine Hering, he was the editor of the North American Journal of Homeopathy. Dr. Lilienthal passed away on February 2nd 1891 in San Francisco.
