The advent of homeopathy and its holistic concept opened new era in the world of medicine. The concept of  health, disease and cure in homoeopathy is totally different from the orthodox system of medicine. How does Homoeopaths treat Pain and its consequences? Homoeopaths do not treat the disease, they treat the individuals in pain according to Homoeopathic philosophy.

PHILOSOPHICAL BACKGROUND

What constitutes the man? It is merely an aggregated material of flesh and blood, skeleton and muscles, nerves and organs as well as mind. Spirit is maintaining the body in living condition. This makes the difference between living and dead. This thing Dr. Hahnemann termed the vital force. Thus the human organism is a trinity constituting of body, mind and vital force.

CONCEPT OF HEALTH

Health and disease are the two opposite qualitative state of life and are inter convertible to each other. According to medical dictionary, health is a stage of optimal, physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of d is e a s e.

According to Homeopathy, in sec. 9 Organon of medicine, Health is condition in which the spiritual vital force ‘rules with unbounded sway’ and retains all the parts of organism in admirable harmonious vital operation as regarded as both sensation and function. In sec. 10 Dr. Hahnemann says, the material organism without vital force is capable of no sensation, and function and no preservation. In short according to Homeopathy health is normal condition of life characterized by sensation of well being and comfort due to harmonious playing of vital force.

CONCEPT OF DISEASE

sec. 11 of Organon of medicine defines disease as an abnormally altered state of health in which self acting vital force is primarily dynamically deranged by the morbific dynamic influence inimical to life, causing disagreeable sensations and irregular functions.

In short disease may defined as a dynamic derangement of the vital harmony of the whole organism manifested first in the sphere of sensation then in the sphere of functions, then in the sphere of material constituents. The exactly opposite concept exists in the orthodox school of medicine. They consider disease form the materialistic point of view. They believe disease to be originating from material causes. They consider disease something material which remains hidden in the interior of man. They believe disease to be something separate from the living whole i.e. this body and its animating vital force. The orthodox school of medicine failed to appreciate the spiritual nature of life, hence they do not believe the dynamic derangement of vital force and spiritual dynamic power of the exciting cause of the disease.

CONCEPT OF MIASM :

It was a continually repeated fact before Hahnemann after discovering and practicing homoeopathy for about 30 years, that the non venereal chronic disease after being removed homeopathically by the remedies fully proved up to his time, always returned in a more or less varies forms and with new symptoms, or reappeared annually with an increase of complaints. But the acute disease was cured speedily and completely by means of a correct application of homoeopathic remedies. Regarding the treatment of chronic diseases Hahnemann state that ‘their beginning was promising, the continuation less favourable, the outcome hopeless.’

Now the question arises why the vital force cannot produce any true and lasting recovery in these chronic maladies even with the aid of the homeopathic medicines which best cover their present symptoms? The answer to question led him to investigate and discovery of the nature of these chronic diseases. Dr. Hahnemann found that the factors which render the constitution, sick and susceptible are an invisible dynamic disease producing potential [ sec.6, as miasm sec. 78;] they are three in numbers psora, sycosis,

and syphilis they are fundamental causes of all chronic and natural diseases. In, sec. 5 & 73 in organon of medicine Dr. Hahnemann described about exciting cause. Exciting cause may be defined the cause which excites a disease condition either acute or acute exacerbation of chronic disease. So it is responsible for both acute and chronic disease. He also put light on maintaining cause in sec. 77 F.N. to sec. 7 and describe, as it is the avoidable harmful influence responsible for the maintenance of the chronic disease, pseudo chronic disease. In chronic disease without removal of maintaining cause permanent cure of disease is not possible. In short fundamental cause is soil where plant of disease grow and receiving water exciting cause it blossoms. Thus from above classification Pain is no exception, so Pain disease according to Homoeopathy is dynamic derangement of vital force by morbific dynamic influence i.e. miasm and manifestation in form of various signs and symptoms and maintain by availability of exciting and maintaining factors and identify with modern nosological nomenclature.

CONCEPT OF CURE :

The cure is not a new word in the medical world. Hahnemann pointed out the physicians to their divine duty of cure as a real object. In the sec. 1 Organon of medicine, h e    penetrated directly to the heart of matter and declared that ‘Physician’s high and only mission is to restore the sick to the health, to cure’ and subsequently in sec. 2 Hahnemann expressed ‘The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent, restoration of health or removal or annihilation of disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.’ Thus cure included

THE ART OF TREATING CHRONIC DISEASES:-

Treating chronic diseases is just like building a castle i.e. placing one brick over another. This is a process and in this process every step has its own significance, but the most important step for a strong castle is its foundation; similar is the case in homoeopathy, case history is the foundation on which “Cure” stands. To  achieve our aim i.e. cure a correct case history is of utmost importance. Generally treating a chronic disease is not like a hundred meter dash. Treating a chronic disease is just like catching a hen in an open field that does not run in a straight course. So, is the case with chronic disease; once you give a medicine selected on the totality of the symptoms, it may give you desired result for a certain period of time. After some times the medicine stops giving you the desired result. Now at this point we have three choices, one is to increase the potency of the medicine, if the patient is presenting the same symptoms or a new medicine has to be given if there is any change in symptoms or we can give an inter-current medicine of required according to the family history or the past history of the patient. At this point of time it is the skill of the physician to select the path, which is best suited for the patient for his/her speedy and gentle cure. The process is continued till our final aim i.e. cure is achieved.

GENERALISATION: –

Primitive man had capacity of mind to conceive  objects in wholes (Gestalts), to experience them as imaginary, to store them in his memory in complete form and to review these images whenever necessary for evaluating new experience. This faculty has regressed since man effected repertorisation.

A transformation within him to evolve into the more efficient world of communication through symbol i.e. Language. This development cultivated analytic functions as against the Gestalt and allowed a richer storehouse of memory as well as a more efficient recall system through permutation and combination of ―bits. Effective employment of the tool of analysis demands the capacity of progressively higher abstraction, so that the general relationships are perceived. This is the process of generalization. Restoration of original image also demands a synthesis and balance so that the generals as well as the particulars are viewed in a correlated manner and perceived as an evolutionary phenomenon. All phenomena perceived in this fashion permit further generalization to be made so that natural relationship and laws are correctly interpreted and applied.

DEFINITION :-

Generalization is an act or process of arriving at generals out of particulars. It is an aspect of the process of identification and applies forming general notion or formation of general concepts from particulars by the process of mental abstraction. Formation of general concepts or conceptualization of facts and evolution of general are inductive inference. Generalization is valid when it follows deductive and inductive logic. Inductive logic verify through the method of experiment. General statements are arrived at expressing relationship between, 1. Variables in the field of observation 2. A set of Antecedent and of events that follow ( invariable causes- antecedent), thus we have Hypothesis—Principles—Laws—Systems Generalization becomes invalid when these methods OF deductive and inductive logic are not coordinated.
