CHELIDONIUM.

THIS medicine is usually regarded as chiefly useful in certain disordered stares of the liver. It is one of the principal liver remedies, but it has a wider field of action. Clarke points out it may be needed in rheumatic affections, heat, tenderness, and stiffness being the leading indications. The principal modalities of Chelidonium are as follows: Motion, cough, tough and change of weather aggravate the symptoms. Hot food, eating, hot bath, and milk relieve most symptoms and relieves other. The time of aggravations is 4 a.m. or during the afternoon.

The Chelidonium patient is depressed and sometimes inclined to weep. Drowsiness is another symptom often see in Chelidonium cases.

Headache, with the pain extending backwards with throbbing temples, aggravated by stooping, coughing and blowing the nose. The headaches tend to be right sided. Pin over the right eye is characteristic. Chelidonium is distinctly right-side in its symptoms. One odd symptom that has been recorder is a sensation of wind rushing out of both ears.

The face is often yellow. Toothache, or facial neuralgia worse at night, in bed, and by warmth. There may be a bitter taste in the mouth. The tongue is coated and yellow. Appetite is lacking, though there may be a desire for milk and sour things. Cheese and meat are often disliked. Biliousness, nausea, vomiting and jaundice are often met with. Gnawing pains in the stomach relieved by eating.

The patient belches up gas which sometimes tastes like juniper5 berries. There are cramping pains in the abdomen and sometimes a sensation as if there were a string tied round the abdomen. One keynote symptom is a fixed pain at the inner angle of the right scapula.

Stools may be white or yellow. Constipation with hard, lumpy stool.

The limbs feel heavy and stiff. There may be pains, usually right-sided. One foot may be cold. A drowsy, chilly patient whose liver acts imperfectly. It he needs Chelidonium for his cough, rheumatism or pneumonia some of the characteristic symptoms of a disordered liver will almost certainly be present.
