HOMOEOPATHY IN WOMENS DISEASES

But “Mens sana in corpore sano” a sound mind is possible in a healthy body-but more so the utero-ovarian disorders on the female mind: hysterics, epileptiform states, Melancholia, hypochondriasis, mania, inordinate cravings, desires and aversions, loathings, etc. The womb is her second brain, and so here comes in the homoeopathic method of healing. An homoeopath values all those peculiarities, no matter how trivial they are. They are the “sick woman” and point not only to the remedy, but to the condition itself of a truth, an infallible truth. All homoeopathic remedies diagnose their own cases.

There is often no need for the distressing local examination, because local conditions are only secondary to the primary disease, and the person having the disease. So why fear going to a homoeopathic doctor. Your are sensitive, you say. Well, yes. Your complaint will exaggerate your sensitivity an hundred fold the longer you refrain from going to an homoeopath. Homoeopathic remedies diagnose their own cases, because they have individuality in themselves. No two remedies are alike, even as not two women are alike. So Homoeopathy is in itself the persons and the remedy. A fine adjustment of remedy tot he patient and that is just what is needed in the present complex state of things.

The first and primary consideration in the female economy is the function of menstruation. This is the pressure gauge of her health. Any disorder in this peculiar function acts as a brake to her, mentally and physically, and the longer the deviation from normal function exists, the more complicated she will become, ending in “No one understands me.” She is out of tune with her universe and a frequent chemists customer, doctors patient, or surgeons case.

CASE NO. 1.

Mrs. G., whose period did not appear until after marriage at twenty-one, had been thought consumptive, because of her nervous and physical debility which resisted all treatments to alter. Her mother had ignored the non-appearance of the period and did not tell the doctor until her daughter was ill after marriage. The doctor started the period, which soon developed into the opposite condition, that of profuse and long-lasting and painful menstruation, which weakened Mrs. G. still more. Her first child nearly killed her, and afterwards she became a wretched invalid who had to be carried from bed to a couch for 32 years.

One doctor after another was brought in to see her, but nothing helped her until she tried Osteopathy, which worked wonders for her physically but her neurasthenic condition did not disappear until the whole individual had been taken into account. She was aggravated in every way by warmth. Close atmosphere, yet chilly, better for open air, and in cold weather. Pulsatilla 6 started the reaction, and for her neuralgic headaches, and uterine troubles, heart and periodic congestions, Belladonna 6 was sufficient, completing the cure with Arsen. iod. 3x and Acid phos. 3x. What a life of misery through dysfunction and ignorance.

CASE NO. 2.

Mrs. K. had suffered for more than four years with an aching pain under the right ribs, which at times descended downwards towards the appendix region. The pain only came on while resting and disappeared when walking about or was otherwise occupied. Yet it was always there when she thought about it. Taking the case, I found out that she had had a very bad childbirth, after which her period did not appear unless she went to her doctor, who gave her something for it.

Even then the flow did not last longer than twenty-four hours, but this relieved the pain in the right side and generally made her feel better. She was very nervy and full of fears, and anxieties, suffering terribly from the cold and was always worse mentally and physically before and during a thunderstorm or gale of wind.

Arnica 6 and 30 was given for a month, at the end of which the period appeared with much pain and lasted four days. Arnica 6 was continued for the next month and again the period come on, but less pain, also lasting four days, which was the previous usual time. She felt better in every way and her pain in the right side had disappeared. No operation now! What a relief! She had been advised an operation by two doctors, but through fear she refused.

Well, the next month Phosphorus 6 was prescriber after food, and Arnica30 night and morning, resulting in period again to time, no pain. Feeling stronger in every way. The next month she got Kali mur 6x night and morning and Phos.6 after food. All the coldness, the fears, the anxieties, dreads and disappeared like a cloud. Period again normal and painless.

CASE NO. 3.

Miss C. wrote to me about her profuse, long-lasting menstruation. At the early age of twelve this function began and until the age of eighteen the flow would last continuously for seven days. At the age of twenty-one she went to a hospital for an operation, her womb was scraped, etc. This procedure regulated the flow for about nine months, then the flow became distressing again and made her very weak in body.

At the age of twenty-five another operation was performed, with a modifying effect, lasting six months, after which the flow increased again and in addition to the seven day full flow, a muddy discharge continued between the period. As you can imagine, the poor woman was by this time a physical and nervous wreck. I did not see the patient. She lived in the North of England, but she wrote me such a graphic account of her sufferings, omitting nothing either mental or physical. She was always cold, and judging from the photograph she sent on to me, she appeared to be very pale, fat, flabby and relaxed.

I sent her on a months treatment of Kali carb. 6x and Calc. carb. 3x and when the next period arrived, it was less in amount and lasted only six days. The muddy discharge continued, so repeated Kali carb. 6x and Calc. carb 3x for the next month. The next report was ” Muddy discharge less and paler; period less and lasted only four days; feeling a new lease of life”.

The next report was: “Period as last month; discharge nearly stopped; cold feeling gone. Would like to discontinue treatment.” So, after three months on Homoeopathy, after years of misery, the weak has been made strong, and is functioning normally and has remained so since November 1936. Often Miss C. would have to remain home from business.

CASE NO. 4.

Miss K. a neurasthenic, said to be incurable, came to me about her nerves and long-lasting., too frequent period, which would appear every two weeks. The flow lasting from seven to eight days. Ferrum phos. 6x and Arsen. alb. 3x, the latter after food for two months, regulated the flow and Arsen. iod. 3x tablets, and Acid phosphoric. 3x, the former after food and the latter night and morning and noon, soon altered the neurasthenic condition which was due to the excessive loss of vital fluids.

Many other extraordinary cases could be quoted, but enough is sufficient.

There is another distressing uterine condition prevalent among females of all ages, and is the leucorrhoeal and catarrhal condition. The recognized treatment for these conditions locally by douches is very bad and worse than useless. The strong antiseptics recommended by chemists and doctors can only have one result; ulceration, tumours, cancer and polypi.

This affection is not a local matter but a constitutional one, and is depleting of the constitution as an haemorrhage, because the discharge is a vital fluid manufactured by the body organism for the maintenance of the particular tract or organ in function. Thus to forcibly suppress any discharge locally is against Nature. It is quite true that the condition should not exist; its presence indicates dysfunction of the structure involved and rarely exists alone, but is a part of a general ill-health complex.

CASE NO. 5.

Mrs. C., aged 32, came to me about her chronic catarrh and general run-down condition. She had been in the habit of having a 19s. jar of Sanatogen and two bottles of Halls Wine per month, to so-called build her up. But she was unaffected by the treatment. A grateful patient of mine, seeing her plight, told her of me and after much debate, in desperation she came.

I considered the case from the superficial aspect, that is the nose, throat, eyes, ears and chest, point of view. Also the nervous debility and noticing a peculiar burnt-like odour, I inquired about other discharges. She did not intend to mention this, because she said she was ashamed to tell me; but she had told the other medical men.

Yes, she felt a heaviness in the region of the womb, and often had a pain in the left ovary, sometimes in the right. Often she could not stand for very long; simply had to sit down, yes, and press “my tummy,” so ! Lillium tig. 30 once a day, and Sulphur 6 soon relieved her of her catarrhal condition, and China x alternating with Arsen. iod. 3x, tablets after food, restored her to functional vigour again.

CASE NO.6.

Miss. R., 36, wrote to me about a very offensive discharge from the vagina, which had persisted for several years. She had also expanding like pains in the lumbo-sacral region and in the groins. Mentally she was very miserable, and frequently was sent home from business with hysteria. She always felt sick and sad. The discharge was thick and yellow, smelling awful, sometimes tough and stringy. She also had a horrible faint, all- gone feeling in the tummy.
