Introduction

Ledum palustre, Linn. Natural order: Ericaceae. Preparation:

Tincture of the dried herb.

Mind.

Emotional. Unmanageable drunkenness.-Joyous mood, with desire for activity and contentment with himself. (* Curative action – Hahnemann. *) -Quiet and still mood the whole day; therewith he is lively and joyous. (* Curative action; reaction. Hahnemann. *) Anxiety. Fearfulness. Irritable; he is easily aroused. He is inclined to anger and peevishness. Fretful; he is discontented with everything. Fretful, morose mood. Fretful; he went by himself, and almost weeping, wished to die. Morose mood, with much uneasiness and irresolution; he is unable to reflect constantly upon anything, or work with a quiet mind. Discontented all day with his companions, which at last amounts to misanthropy. Intellectual. Great earnestness all day; everything which happened to him was viewed thoughtfully and seriously. Loss of understanding. (* After prolonged intoxication. Hughes. *).

Head

Confusion and Vertigo. Confusion of the head. Head confused and dizzy (after one hour). Confusion in the forehead. Confusion of the forehead, with some staggering when walking, and especially when rising from stooping. The forehead is confused and heavy. Vertigo; the head sinks back. Vertigo, while walking. Vertigo while walking in the street, as if the body swayed to one side, which really might have happened, and on account of which I remained standing, until the sensation passed away; but on continuing to walk, it returned; and so several times, for some ten minutes. Vertigo, while walking and standing; he can scarcely keep erect (after nine hours). Excessive vertigo, all day, even while sitting still, aggravated by stooping, and on walking it increases even to falling forward, as in drunkenness; with a feeling of heat in the whole body, especially the face, without thirst and with paleness of the cheeks and forehead (after five hours). Dizziness in the forehead. Reeling after rising from stooping. Drunkenness, dizziness, and confusion of the head. He feels as if drunk while walking in the open air. Head. Heat of the head, especially of the forehead, with heaviness. Headache causing dulness. Violent headache. (* With the intoxication. Hughes. *) Raging headache. He feels a dull headache in the morning, during sleep. Drawing pains in all the cranial bones. Dull, pressive, wandering pains in the head. Pressive headache over the whole brain like a weight; lasting day and night for three days, with slight interruptions. Headache, at first over the whole brain like a heavy weight; on the second day it becomes a dull pressure in a small spot in the right temple. Head affected; if he takes a false step the brain is painfully shattered. Headache, as from a blow or shock. Forehead. Heaviness in the forehead. Heaviness in the forehead, as if dizzy. Heaviness and dull pressure in the forehead. Heat and heaviness in the forehead, with pressure in the right temple. Increased feeling of warmth and pressure in the forehead. Boring in the left frontal bone and left temple. Boring pain in the left side of the forehead. Violent boring pain in the left side of the forehead, and in the upper jaw to the left of the nose. Dull boring pain extending through the frontal bone. Drawing in the frontal bone. Drawing, pressure, boring in the frontal bones. Drawing pain in the left side of the forehead. Pressure in the forehead. Pressure in the frontal bone frequently. Pressure in the frontal bone above the right eye. Pressive, stupefying pain externally in the forehead, in all positions, as after a night’s debauch (after six hours). Pressive headache in the upper part of the forehead, with confusion of the head, especially on covering it. Sticking pain in the brain, beneath the right frontal eminence. Tearing in the frontal bones; in the parietal bones back ward above the ears. Tearing pain in the frontal bone. Tearing pain in the frontal and parietal bones. Tearing pain in the left side of the frontal bone. Temples. Boring in the left temple. Violent boring in the left temple and left side of the frontal bone, while reading, lasting several minutes. Pressure in both temples. Pressure in the temples, worse in the left. Pressure in the right temple. Pressure and heaviness in the temples and forehead. Pressure inward in the left temple. Dull pressure in the right temple. Dull pressure below the left temple. Pressive pain when touching the temples. Vertex. Violent boring pain in the coronal suture, several times. Pressure in the left side of the vertex. Parietals. Boring in the right parietal bone. Violent boring in the upper part of the left side of the head; after two hours the same pain, but less severe, farther forward in the forehead. Boring pain in the left parietal eminence. Drawing that comes and goes in the bones of the right side of the head (after two hours). Pressure in the right side of the head behind the ear, and in the left side of the forehead. Dull pressure in the left side of the head, with heaviness of the head. Tearing in the left parietal bone. Tearing in the cranial bones above the right ear. Occiput. Tearing in the left side of the occiput. External Head. Drawing beneath the scalp, extending from the vertex and sides of the head towards the forehead. Crawling itching, as from lice, on the forehead and scalp.

Eye.

Inflammation of the eyes, with tensive pain. Pain in the eyes, without inflammation; a pressure behind the eyeball as if it would be forced out. Burning pressure in the eyes, especially in the evening; they are agglutinated in the morning, with lachrymation during the day, even in the room (after four hours). Boring pressure from the forehead to the eyes, and in the eyeballs, as if coming from above. Stitches in the right inner canthus. Fine stitches in the left eye, towards the inner canthus. Great itching in the inner canthi. Brow and Orbit. Boring pain above the beginning of the left eyebrow. Dull pressive boring at the lower orbital margin of the right side. Pressure on the outer margin of the right orbit, worse on moving about. Tearing in the bone above the left eye. Lids. The lids are agglutinated, without pain. The lids are full of matter, but neither swollen nor inflamed. Fine stitches in the margin of the right lids, towards the inner canthus. Lachrymal Apparatus. Lachrymation (without inflammation of the white of the eye); the tears are acrid and biting, and make the lower lid and cheek sore. Pupil. Pupils dilated (after three and a quarter, five and a quarter, and nine and a half hours). Decided dilatation of the pupils (soon). Extreme dilatation of the pupils. Pupils contracted (after one hour). Vision. Visual power weakened; does not see sharply. Flickering before the eyes, he can see nothing definitely. If one looks at anything steadily, there is a glimmering or flickering before the eyes, as after violent running, and as though one could not fix the eyes upon it (as in vertigo). Small black points float before the eyes.

Ear.

Pressure in the bone behind the left ear. Dulness of hearing in the right ear. Deafness of the right ear; it feels as if stopped with cotton, and as though he heard from a distance. Transient deafness, as if something were placed before the drums of both ears (after thirteen hours). Noise in the ear as from the ringing of a bell, or from a storm of wind. Roaring in the ears, as from wind. Violent, interrupted roaring in the ears, nearly all day.

Nose.

Objective. Sneezing on account of tickling in the left nostril. Frequent sneezing, with increased nasal mucus. Slight nose bleed; bloody mucus in the nose. Subjective. Pain at the union of the nasal cartilage with the bone of the left side, worse when touched with accumulation of much thick mucus in the left nostril, so that it is difficult to get air through the nostril; as if from a swelling of the mucous membrane. A burning pain as from a glowing coal internally in the nose, with soreness on pressing upon the nose or blowing it (after twenty four hours). Cutting burning pain in the skin above the root of the nose, confined to a small spot, suddenly disappearing. Boring pain in the left nasal bones.

Face.

Paleness of the face, yet without chilliness. Drawing in the left half of the face, across the left temple as far as the forehead. Drawing pain, beginning in the middle of the face, extending across the forehead and occiput into the nape of the 3 neck, where it disappeared. After some coarse stitches in the teeth, an intolerable tearing pain externally on the right side of the face, head and neck, lasting all night, which disappears after more stitches in the teeth, but returns from time to time; the attack ends with shivering, deep sleep, and loss of hunger and thirst (after ninety six hours). Cheeks. Pains in the upper jaw on both sides of the nose,” Boring in the upper margin of the left zygoma. Boring pain in the zygoma. Boring pain in the left zygoma in the frontal bone in the upper part of the right frontal eminence. Boring pains in the zygoma and lower jaw of the left side, in the evening. Pressure in the right zygoma. China Boring in the right lower jaw. Boring in the left side of the lower jaw. Violent boring in the right articulation of the jaw. Violent boring in the inferior maxillary bone of the right side. Boring pain in the left angle of the lower jaw, while sitting. Boring pain in the lower jaw of the right side; in the zygoma; also in the evening. Drawing in the left side of the lower Jaw. Hard pressure on the left lower jaw, from without inward (after one hour).

Dr. Timothy Field Allen, M.D. ( 1837 - 1902)

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
