Illicium

  Common names: Anise, star anise (seeds).

Introduction

Illicium anisatum linn.

Natural order: Magnoliaceae.

Preparation: Tincture of the seeds.

Head

Dizziness. Indefinite pains in the head.

Ears

Ringing (in the ears) as of great bells, followed by sleep. Roaring in the ears. Loud roaring in the ears, with hissing sensation.

Nose

Acute catarrh, Watery discharge from the nose. sharp stitches beneath the tip of the nose, sensation of warm biting in the nose, like that felt when looking at the sun, immediately followed by sneezing (after a quarter an hour). He constantly notices the sharp biting odor of the drug on expiring the breath through the nose; this disappears after he has eaten something.

Face

Dryness in the upper lip, and a feeling as if drawn towards the teeth, so that it lies hard against them. Burning on the inner side of the lower lip, and a feeling as if it were asleep. Sensation in the upper lip as if blood were forcing out, a sticking; it disappears as soon as he touches it in order to wipe away the fancied blood.

Mouth

Flow of saliva. Food, excepting bread, tastes too salt and bitter, though he has a good appetite; bread ha good taste and a strong smell.

Stomach

When eating, soon satisfies. Acidity in the stomach. Nausea, nausea in the stomach, which, however, only extends to the chest, and then again disappears. Qualmishness in the stomach and chest swelling of the stomach. Sensation as of an ulcer in the stomach.

Abdomen

Pain in the spleen, Pain at the navel and in the oesophagus. Borborygmi in the abdomen. Pain in the loins. Stool. Bilious evacuations. Solid stools, of a deep yellow color. Constipation.

Urinary organs

Retention of urine.

Sexual organs

Violent eructations. Nocturnal pollution.

Respiratory organs

White expectoration.

Chest

Pains in the chest, with sensation of emptiness after coughing. Transient pains on the left side of the chest.

Back

Pain in the back and chest. A cramp like drawing on the left side of the dorsal vertebrae, as after taking cold (after three hours).

Superior Extremities.

Jerking and tearing in the bend of the left elbow, and at the same time in the palm of the hand; a feeling as if as artery had been injured by a blow. A pressure on the back of the right hand, between the two middle metacarpal bones, as though something hard were lying between them, very perceptible if the hands were pressed against anything hard, not when touched.

Inferior Extremities.

The left thigh feels as if broken in the middle while sitting; it disappears on standing.

Skin

Stitches as with pins in the palm of the left hand, between the first and second fingers; these disappear, after scratching, but afterwards return with burning., Dull painful stitches in the skin of the lower portion of the forearm, Crawling itching-like stitches in the palm of the right hand. Itching of the skin in front of the and above the left ear, disappearing as soon as he touches it.

Sleep

Sleep sleepiness at nightfall. sleep disturbed.

Fever

Heat from the abdomen to the stomach and chest, running over different places, and abating in the course of the day.

Aggravation

(Forenoon) The pains.

(When sitting), Feeling in thigh.

Amelioration

(Evening), The pains.

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
