     Common name: Sweet or bitter casada or cassava.

Introduction

Manihot utilissima, Pohl (Jatropha manihot, L). (* The bitter variety is poisonous, differing from the sweet, as bitter from sweet almonds ( the difference probably due to the presence of hydrocyanic acid); botanically, the two varieties are alike.*) Natural order: Euphorbiaceae.

Preparation: Tincture of the root.

Mind.– Emotional.

At times, painful weeping, with grinding of the teeth. Sadness. Wakes in bad humor (2nd day). Intellectual. She seemed to have some consciousness, as was shown by the look of her eye when her name was called aloud. Senseless and unconscious, with ice-cold hands and feet, pale, sunken face, half-closed eyes, dilated pupils, half-opened mouth, full of saliva, respiration very slow, almost imperceptible, action of the heart intermitting, scarcely perceptible, anus relaxed, wide open, limbs relaxed. He fell to the ground unconscious, with loud cries and convulsions.

Head.

Dizziness (2nd day). Giddiness of the head. Weight in the head, especially the top of the forehead, at 4 P.M. (2nd day). Pain in the forehead and nasal fossae (4th day).

Eye.

Pain within the orbits. Dimness of sight. Optical illusions (4th day).

Ear.

Noise in the ears, extending to the occiput, like letting off steam (3rd day).

Mouth.

Clammy mouth, with bad breath (3rd day). Bitter mouth (4th day).

Throat.

Sense of swelling in the left tonsil (2nd day). Pain at the velum palati. Slight feeling of dryness in the oesophagus.

Stomach.

Appetite when beginning breakfast, but it suddenly ceases after taking a little milk (2nd day). Thirst. Eructations at 6.30 A.M. Violent vomiting and purging. Heaviness in the stomach all night, relieved by applying the hands (4th day). Slight weight in the stomach. Pain and sickness of the stomach. Slight dull pains in stomach and bowels, with borborygmi (2nd day). Vague and transient, but very acute, pains in the stomach (3rd day).

Abdomen.

Swelling of the whole abdomen. Vague pains in the hypogastrium, when urinating, at 6 A.M. (2nd day).

Rectum and Anus.

Tenesmus and pressure in the sphincter ani, with pricking, at 3 P.M. (2nd day). At 8 o’clock, renewed, but ineffectual urging to stool (2nd day).

Stool.

Diarrhoea in the morning ( (6th day). Unusually easy stools.

Watery, greenish, fetid stools ( (2nd day). Copious, light colored, watery, fetid stools (2nd day).

Urinary Organs.

Sudden pain, with lancination, in the urethra, above the fossa navicularis, for two minutes ( (2nd day). Slight heat in the urethra (3rd day).

Respiratory Organs.

Respiration intermitting, at times almost ceasing.

Chest.

Pain within the chest. Pain in the side of the chest and in the shoulders, aggravated by movement (2nd day).

Heart and Pulse.

Pulse very weak.

Back.

Pain the back (3rd day). Pain at the loins (6th day).

Superior Extremities.

Acute pain in the left arm at night. Pain in the left elbow (3rd day).

Inferior Extremities.

Pain at the inside of the thigh (5th day). Rheumatic pain in the right thigh (8th day). Trembling of the knees and of all the limbs with violent emotion, when hearing others talk about the disease he is afraid of having (2nd day). Weakness of the knees when going upstairs. Swelling of the ankles, rather less at night (3rd day).

General Symptoms.

Slight cramps, with staring look.

Debility. Moral and physical prostration (3rd day).

Faintings.

Sleep and Dreams.– Sleepiness.

Drowsiness ( (6th day). Drowsiness in daytime. Sleep at 4 P.M.

(2nd day). Falls asleep late. Distressing dreams, about wanting to save an asphyxiated child, whose parents will not let him treat it (2nd day). Dreams about a conflagration, with small flames, like those presented by the 10th attenuation of Crot. cascavella, when examined under the solar micro- scope, at the Homeopathic Institute of Rio Janeiro (5th day).

Fever.

Coldness and shrinking. The whole head, especially the nape of the neck, is cold (8th day). Face and limbs cold. Icy coldness under the shoulder-blades, in bed, even when well covered up (7th day). Icy coldness of the arm, even to the marrow of the bone (8th day). Icy coldness of the knees (6th day). Cold feet and hands (7th day). Profuse sweat during sleep, ceasing on waking (2nd day). Very fetid sweat under the axillae and on the scrotum (3rd day).

Conditions. Aggravation

(Morning), 6.30 o’clock, eructations; 6 o’clock, when urinating, pain in hypogastrium; diarrhoea.

(Afternoon), 4 o’clock, weight in head; 3 o’clock, tenesmus, etc.

(Night), Pain in let arm.

(Movement), Pain in chest.

(During sleep), Sweat.

Amelioration.

(Night), Swelling of the ankles.

(Applying hands to part), Heaviness in stomach.

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
