Introduction

An alkaloid, obtained from the bark and seeds of Strychnos Nux vomica. Formula, C23 H26 N2 O4. Preparations, Triturations.

Head

Headache.

Eyes

Hazy vision.

Ears

Ringing in the ears.

Stomach

Diminished appetite. Thirst, from dryness of the mouth. Nausea. Burning in stomach.

Urinary Organs

Increased urinary secretion (once).

Sexual Organs

Erections.

Upper Extremities

Twitching of the fingers.

Generalities

Sudden jerkings, especially of the lower extremities (increasing in intensity with the dose), spreading generally, but not accompanied with trismus and tetanus, and not extending to the oesophagus and pharynx, as is the case with Strychnia. Twitchings in the paralyzed as well as in the healthy muscles. General weakness.

Skin

Formication. Itching of the skin.

Sleep

Deep sleep, after the attacks. Sleeplessness.

Fever

A fever of short duration terminates the attacks.

Born in 1837in Westminster, Vermont. . He was an orthodox doctor who converted to homeopathy
Dr. Allen compiled the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica over the course of 10 years.
In 1881 Allen published A Critical Revision of the Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica.
