CLASS VI- NEUROSES

Cutaneous sensation is complex in character and embraces a number of elements. These include the sense of pain and the sensations of temperature and touch, pressure and contact. Perversions of these sensations with no accompanying lesion of the skin are often complex, but may be divided into four forms; diminished or absent sensation, anesthesia; increased or exaggerated sensation, hyperaesthesia; pain or dermatalgia, which includes erythromelalgia; and altered sensation, paresthesia, which properly includes pruritus. It is often difficult to differentiate these types of perverted sensation because they may coexist, precede or follow one another very closely.
