ALOPECIA PREMATURA

The high-frequency currents, applied to the spine for their systemic effect or locally with a vacuum electrode held 1/4 of an inch from the scalp, have entirely superseded faradic and galvanic electricity and, to my mind, far surpass in value these older agents. Repeated small doses of the X-rays or cataphoresis by which an electric current may force such agents as mercuric chlorid, salicylic acid, sodium chlorid or zinc chlorid directly into the hair- follicles, thereby destroying the micro-organisms and stimulating a healthy condition of the follicles, may at times be useful. There is a wide choice of remedies which may be prescribed for a case of premature baldness, but one of the following is often indicated: Calcarea carb., Calcarea phos., Baryta carb., Fluor. acid, Helleb., Hypericum, Kreosotum, Kali sulph., Lycop., Mercurius viv., Nat. mur., Nit. acid, Pet., Phosphorus acid, Sarsap., Selenium, Sepia, Sulphur, Staphisag., Thuja and Vinca.
